"I was thinking I'd talk to Michael," she said, and then added, "I haven't seen him lately though." That didn't mean much, when the sought party was a ghost. He could turn invisible at will. "Do I have to schedule an interview or do I say I'm interested?"

"He's probably just in his room. Or he could be right here, who knows?" Being invisible seemed to be easier for the spirit. "I think you'd say you're interested first and then they'll give you the general walkthrough and then schedule an interview. There's a test to take. Everyone who works here has to take it before they're hired."

"I'll ask Toby to help me find him later," Maia said. "So do you think I should tell them now?" she asked. Test? Toby hadn't mentioned a test. Was what she'd learned enough? "What sort of test?" she asked.

"It's just like a general psychological 'who are you' kind of test. It's not math or anything. I think you should talk to Michael or Toby before you tell the higher-ups."

She nodded, offering Pixie another piece of fruit. "I'll tell Toby I want to talk to Michael, and then I'll ask him more about it first." And sleep on it, possibly. At least there wasn't a math test.

Pixie, who was now licking grape-sticky lips, happily took the fruit.
"That sounds good," Lori said with a nod, "It's a big deal, but I don't think it'll be hard to get you in. Humans have it the worst."

And there seemed to be quite a few humans working there, Maia thought. She'd met several. She finished her lunch and stood. "I think I'll ask Toby about it now, if he's not busy." She had yet to catch him on his lunch break. "See you later?"

Lori nodded. "See you later, Maia. Good luck!"
Toby could easily be found in his office, working on some paperwork rather than at his computer.

Maia found Toby working on paperwork and paused. Busy then. "What're you working on?" she asked, sitting in her usual chair.

Toby looked up and seemed a bit worn-down, but he smiled.
"Monthly reports. Can I get a kiss?" He'd certainly like one.
"During work hours?" Dari teased, "Tsk tsk."

Maia smiled, going over to him and kissing him. "You look like you're having fun. Want to help me find Michael?"

Toby returned the kiss and smiled again,
"Oh, tons of fun. Sure. I could use a little break. I haven't seen him in a while but there's only so far he can go. Come on." He rose from his chair and stretched, then headed out of the office with Maia. "What're you looking for Michael for? Still thinking about becoming an ambassador?"

Maia offered Toby her hand. "You looked like you needed one," she said, following him out of the office. "Yup. Lori told me I ought to talk to you and Michael about it, and then tell the big boss I'm interested. He mentioned a test?"

Toby nodded. "Yeah, it's not a hard one, don't worry." It'd mean whether or not she even got the chance, but somehow he didn't see Maia failing. "The training itself involves a decent amount of virtual reality before they send you out into the field too."
They were going an odd direction now, up the flight of stairs toward the library but left instead of right, then around a bit of a corner. It was an unassuming-looking door. "Always ring first," he said, and pressed a button. Across the building, several bells sounded, alerting Michael that someone was at his door.

Oh, good. "Virtual reality? Like video games?" She asked. Practice was always good, though. Especially when it came to interacting with entities in a New place.
Shed never been down this way, she didn't think. Nope. Was this Michael's apartment? "Do you think he's home?" she asked.
