Many in the military at the time wanted to retain their status that was forfeited when Corazon Aquino became president in 1986. The most infamous was the planned putsch by Gregorio Honasan in 1989.

Okay, so he was actually a good president and not some cruel dictator. That would explain why the textbook says that the top general of the army, Fidel Ramos, stopped all the coups and was later elected president. 3nodding

As for Ramos, he became famous as he promoted development and peace. biggrin
And as for Corazon Aquino, her rule as president did see a lot of problems in the military, but otherwise, it was peaceful. biggrin
