Maia gave Toby a hug. "Keeping busy?" She asked. "I'll make you one at home," She added, kissing his cheek. HQ coffee was definitely not Toby's favorite thing ever. "I haven't got lessons today so I thought I'd join you here."

"No?" Toby asked, tugging Maia into his lap. "Just for the record, this is extremely inappropriate for work." He turned back and forth in the chair anyway. "Did you give Seamus his present?"

"A lot of things you've done would get others in trouble," Maia observed, grinning at him. Sleeping over, taking her home... "He liked it. He was following the fish around the room. I think he was more excited to see me though."

"Mmhm," Toby agreed nonchalantly. It was true, he had a lot of slack. He never abused it to harm, though. Nobody had ever been hurt. That was why they let him do it, he thought. Besides, he was in sort of a lull and actual contact with another being was a lot better than surfing the internet.
"He missed you for sure. Maybe he'll stop giving me the cold shoulder now. Was he in on it too?"
"Only whatever he overheard," Dari replied. "Lori new, so Seamus found out."

"Of course he was in on it," Maia grinned at him. Seamus was a brilliant cat. Well, sidhe, but she'd bet he was above average for his species. "I asked him to be nicer, but no promises." One could never tell with an unseelie.
"I asked Lori about getting a job here today," she said.

"You want a job here?" Toby asked.
"What department?" Dari asked. Ah, these were all the same questions, but Toby felt he might be able to help.

"I've been thinking about it for a long time," Maia confided, giving Toby a smile. "Yeah. I was thinking about seeing if I could be an ambassador. Lori says I should talk to Michael because they'll expect me to know a lot for the interview." It sounded difficult, but it'd be worth it, wouldn't it?

"They probably would, but we can help you with that too," Toby said with a smile. "I'm an ambassador. So is Jiggly over there. Agent training includes ambassador training. Whether you keep the title generally just depends upon your species and how pertinent it is, and how much knowledge you have. You're fae, that could be big. Lori chose research over the potential to be an ambassador."
"I'm sure Michael would love to talk to you about his job. It might help him seem less scary," Dari added. Maybe. If they caught him at a good time.

"Really? Lori didn't mention that." Talking to Toby and Dari about things she'd need to know for the interview was much easier than contacting people she didn't know. Or a ghost that enjoyed scaring her.
"Maybe. We talked a little bit about It when I first met him."

Toby nodded. "I mean, we get some of the ambassadorial training. It's up to the agent if they want to continue with the specialization or not. It's extra work. If you just want to be an ambassador, though, that's a little easier."
"He probably also appeared out of nowhere, invisibly touched your shoulder, acted like a spooky child, or shrieked in your face?" Dari asked.

"Just an ambassador. I don't think I'm up to being an agent. I'll leave that to you guys." She leaned against Toby. "Appeared out of nowhere, kissed my hand, turned invisible and appeared in my face and walked through me," Maia made a face at the memory. "Otherwise he was quite friendly." For a ghost.

"That sounds like Michael," Toby nodded and laughed.
"He's not so bad," Dari said, "He likes to mess with the new people, and every so often he'll have a bad day."

"Maybe we'll get along better now, since I've been around a while." And it was probably best if She at least pretended not to be scared. Maybe ghosts, like dogs, could smell fear. She paused and looked to Toby. "Quiet day?" She asked. He certainly didn't seem to be very busy.

"Yeah, relatively," Toby nodded. For now they just worked on other projects while waiting for another mission. This wasn't the FBI. They didn't track high-profile humans. They looked out for a much smaller minority. "The next full moon is the 26th, by the way."

"It'll be colder by then," Maia mused aloud. Not that Toby would be bothered by the cold with fur. She kissed his cheek. "I'll be here." She still wished he could transform like she did--he wouldn't have to suffer. The least she could do was be there for him.
