Maia smiled, "Yeah, he asked me yesterday." Love was definitely the best thing ever. And definitely worth the wait. "We could go to a movie or something," she suggested. "Are you happy?"

Well, that was kind of a loaded question. "Yeah. Yeah, I am," Lori responded without much thought. He grinned, realizing it was true, and gestured for Maia to come into his office. "Come on, you can plug that in in here."
Seamus happily trotted in. Something that projected fish, eh? He was interested to see!

Maia followed Lori into his office, smiling. So Lori was happy! Good. She found a spare plug and plugged in the night light. Fish lit up the walls in one small space. "See? I found it at a gift shop and I thought Seamus might like it."

Seamus wandered over to one of the fish and scuttled aside so his shadow wouldn't cover it. He pawed at it a couple of times and then just sat down purring, looking around the room.
"Cute," Lori said with a chuckle, "How about you? Are you happy?"

"He likes it," Maia observed with a smile. She looked up at Lori at his question, beaming. "I'm the happiest I've ever been," She said. "Being home again, seeing everyone, being with Toby." It was the most glorious feeling.
"Do I have classes today?"

Lori grinned. Oh, good. So at least for now it was a happy ending for everyone.
"Well, it's up to you. I didn't find out you were coming back until yesterday so we could make time if you'd like, or we can skip a day. Whatever you want."

"We can skip a day. But, there is something I wanted to ask." She looked awkward, paused and glanced around. "I want to see about getting a job here. I don't know if I should wait for them to approach me or go to them."

Now this, this was a surprise. Lori's face likely showed his shock for a moment.
"Oh! Uh, well. It all depends on who you are. I went to them. Do you have any idea what kind of position you'd want to go for?" Somehow Maia didn't strike him as the agent type.

"Ambassador," Maia said, "I've been thinking about it a while. Being an agent isn't really my thing," toting a gun around and getting into dangerous conversations with kelpies, she wasn't particularly interested in that. "I think I'll ask Dari what he thinks too."
"But hey. Toby's birthday is the sixth. You know his friends, don't you? He says he doesn't do parties, but I want to do something special for him." And she didn't know who all to invite. "I'm going to bake him a cake."

"You should talk with Michael, then, if he doesn't creep you out too badly, or Cheryl. Or Nadia, Price, who ever. You'll want to get a feel for the position before you go in for an interview. They'll expect you to know a lot about it already." He could help too, of course.
"Hm? Yeah. Yeah, we usually do the same thing. Oh? A surprise party or what? Let me in on this."

"I'll talk to them." Maia already knew Michael, so she'd have to catch him on a good day. "Thanks," She added, smiling at him.
"I think a surprise party. I have a gift for him so I'll be pulling him away from the group eventually." Would he take it? It was the only thing She could think of that said all the things she wanted said. "I thought you and Dari could help? I don't know anything about throwing parties."

"Yeah, sure! Do you want to do it at his place or out somewhere? Secret presents should probably be left until before or after if you plan on inviting people. It's just awkward." What would she need to pull him away from the group to give him? He was pretty sure nothing that came to mind was it, not with Maia.
"Sure, I've thrown a few parties in my day. Dari too, surprisingly. He's a pretty good people-person."

"I was thinking the house. We'd have all day to decorate if it's a day he works." She hadn't looked at the calendar. "Oh, maybe after would be better for giving It to him. I didn't know what he'd like."
"Great! I'll bake the cake and you and Dari do the planning."

"I'm not sure he'd want to have a party on a day he works. Usually we do them on the weekend." Lori had been a part of the group that had originally urged Toby toward celebrating his birthdays again. Luckily, it had stuck. "Give us a little leeway and we can make this work."

Maia wrapped her arms around Lori. A weekend party, excellent. "You plan," she instructed. "Let Dari know? I bet we could do dinner afterwards, so we keep up with your tradition." She released him. "I think he'll like it."
