Yep, that's what had happened. If I recall, he was into the fetish stuff. English doesn't seem to be his first language so it's not like we talk or anything.

I never thought of it that way but yeah, you're right. Then again on his friend list he did know a guy that had a spot-on black suit Spider-Man costume. Not that movie version either, it was a full PVC bodysuit so it looked exactly like the comic version.

I've seen some Zentai dealers on eBay sell a few Sentai/Tokusatsu costumes but some are really messed up looking and the boots are just socks so you'd have to either edit those into boot covers or buy other boots. So far the only correct looking Sentai costumes are the Power Rangers Mystic Force, Power Rangers Dino Thunder, and Gatchaman, but the masks look very off since they're just a mask made of pvc/lycra, and to be honest the Power Ranger ones are still a tad off from the originals. Some designs are constantly changing due to customers pointing out mistakes and wanting customizations but if you truly want the ultimate Tokusatsu costume you might want to be patient and look around eBay or the internet for some professional Tokusatsu costume makers, most seem to be from Thailand/South East Asia for some reason o_o
I wanted to make a Tokusatsu costume actually, I am between making Battle Fever J or Kamen Rider. Both Can be done relatively easy but the biggest problem is cost >_< The helmets sold by some Thai helmet makers cost about 250 or a bit more if you want eyes to light up, then is finding the correct boots and gloves, plus then the bodysuit itself. Contacting Asian zentai dealers is a hassle since of the language barrier and domestic costume makers are more expensive.

I'd guess the reason they're more common in south-east asia is because of cultural events. They have live performances from suit actors and make festival appearances.
The closest thing I've seen to live hero suit performances in the western world would probably be Disney on Ice...
Still on Culture, sentai and costumed hero shows are more popular and well-regarded in those regions of the world. They're as prestigious and respected as Batman and Spider-Man are here.
In North-America, we associate those things to Power Rangers... And not a whole lot of people will argue that the Power Rangers aren't very well respected.
I'll keep Zentai in mind. I won't be contracting any asian pros to make a costume, though. I'm sticking to the do-it-myself budget approach. I'll just be more creative with the designs to make them easier to construct.
If all goes well, I should be able to make the suits this year and begin filming in summer 2009.

Which tokusatsu character did you have in mind to cosplay as? Some are more simple to do that others, and if you dont mind it looking a tad crappier, or if the design is simple enough you could get away with making a wrestling mask of it. I've seen this one guy around the internet he had a Viewtiful Joe Wrestling mask made and it looked incredible, better than Helmet Viewtiful Joe cosplays I've seen. Though the only other cosplay that can work with this would either be the Battle Fever J people, or the first few Kamen Riders, it'd look unique and not really "that" bad (unless you want near 100% authenticity, then just get a regular helmet from Thai sellers, you could make one yourself if you got the know-how with fiberglass and that stuff surprised )

Thanks for the links biggrin Too bad wetsuits have logos and are usually 2 different colors >_< There are zentais though which is what I might use. I still have trouble finding gloves, I fould somebody that sells cosplay boots, I'll ask if they make gloves too. This is gonna run me quite some money gonk Just out of curiosity though anyone know where I can find a good spiderman costume? NOT the movie one, but I mean one closer to the Tokusatsu version. On ebay all they sell are Halloween costumes, Zentais (terrible movie imitation), and movie reproductions but nothing that actually looks like the Tokusatsu one, the comic book version, or even the 70s live action (which btw is the same costume as the Tokusatsu, even compared them both, just the Tokusatsu has the wrist henshin device)

JINZOUKI! it's been ages since i've been to the castlevania guild. what's good! i had no idea you were a toku fan! you could always make yourself out of plaster and paint and colored netting. an indonesian guy i know from henshinjustice named I@N is showing all of us how to make them from bump caps and 6 layers of plaster. i'm hoping to successfully make either a go-onger suit, or a code geass helmet. Asmodai - the Demon Lord Jinzouki BTW does anyone know where to get Kamen Rider-like gloves and boots? I was curious about the paint itself, whether she used a metallic craft paint, car paint, or a regular paint with a layer or two of gloss finish on top.
