Wow, that's quite sad, really.
Good luck finding it at a store when he's not with you.

Believe me, you're not the first I've heard this sort of story from.
I've went through a PM conversation with a member of Gaia who wanted to pick up a copy of The God Delusion but was scared of her evangelical parents seeing it. Wouldn't even order a copy at the library because she was afraid that they'd mention the name of the book when they called saying it was in. gonk Examined the situation from every possible angle to see if there was a way for her to get that book...sadly, we just couldn't figure out a way beyond her going to pick it up when she moved out for college. sweatdrop And that certainly isn't the first time I've heard a story like that, either.
I swear, I'm gonna end up running a book smuggling ring dedicated to helping people with nutcase parents... ninja

Yeah, I've been wanting to read that (The God Delusion), and they only carry it at ONE bookstore in town, and my dad is with us alot of the time xP My mom is generally more laid back, but I think secretly she wants to save my soul. mad

Ah, yeah. Just keep two things in mind when reading it:
1. While it's certainly the most popular book on the subject its not the best...Richard Dawkins is a scientist, not a philosopher. No offense to him because the man is brilliant, but a philosopher is better equipped to handle arguments of this nature.
2. It's meant to be an over-view of the arguments against a God, an intro text essentially. He mentions this in the preface but people tend to forget that.

Yeah, I've heard some negative things about the book, but I figure it'd be a nice read. I can finally read 'Living Buddha, Living Christ' =D My friend bought it today, with some birthday cash, and he's gonna let me read it once he's done. Hope my dad just doesn't find it. ><

Oh, nothing negative to say about it, really. It just shouldn't be looked upon as the be-all-end-all book on atheism as Dawkins himself states.
I have the book you mentioned and while I'm sure I'll disagree with some of the writer's ideas on how similar the principles are I think it'll be a good read. If only your dad would find it...and ******** read it. stare

Buddha his life and teachings, by osho, is proving to be a very thought provoking introduction to buddhism. I like it.

I've just begun reading Infinite Life: Seven Virtues For Living Well by Robert Thurman. I haven't read through the first chapter, yet.
I can relate to "smuggling books". When I was younger, I had to sneak and have hiding places for non-Christian books. It was tough, but I did it. College was an utter relief for me. smile

Yesterday I picked up Indestructible Truth by Reginald Ray. I found out from reading the introduction that, perhaps, I should have read this book before I began reading Secret of the Vajra World. sweatdrop

I wish my dad would just think so. As he said with the Satanic Bible: "It poisons your mind." I think they're also pretty skeptical about D&D.

The D&D is evil sort? Bahahahahaha.
I had some fundamentalist friends like that...they got me into SO MUCH cool s**t that way....D&D, Pokemon before it was a fad, Magic: The Gathering (well okay, technically I got THEM into Pokemon before they found out it was evil and the work of Satan since it involved evolution)...it was awesome. Every time they told me something was evil I'd go Google or Yahoo search it and it was usually really cool. >____>

But my friend is also the only dungeon master around ;P Sometimes his grandpa cooks up all kindsa reasons why my friend can't come over and roleplay with us. He's told him that he just doesn't trust me. Probably cause I sacrifice babies, and bow to satan, or something. cool
