An account of a person that's been to one of his beatings:

Sawao took a knife out of his pocket.
"DAMN YOU JUN FOR COMING UP WITH MEDIOCRE BASS-LINES!!! WHY CAN'T YOU BE LIKE YOU WERE IN 2002?!!!"
Sawao ran at the poor japanese emo man with the knife, his sunglasses slipping down his nose.
The rest was censored, out of consideration for Jun.
It is rumoured that this is the reason Sawao wears tight pants/studded belts now, because he doesn't want to have to pull up his pants while beating Jun.

Yeah, that's right kiddiez, My Foot, Penalty Life, and Good Dreams weren't that great.

Meh, it's kinda sub-par. Sure there are some okay songs at best, but most of the songs don't really grab my attention, like the older releases do.

BTW, MY FOOT's a great song, that's why I have shirt of it.

I'm gonna have to disagree, I think their music gets better as time goes on. I like their oldies now, but at first I found a lot of them annoying, Yamanaka's singing wasn't as good back then. I thought their old albums essentially had a lot of same-same and a few awesome songs. I like My Foot almost as much as I like Runners High and Happy Bivouac.

Really? I think Sawao's voice was extremely sexy back then. Better than that nasally voice he puts on now. I think they're music was waaay more creative back then. Listen to songs like Angel Fish, or Swanky Street, then listen to Degeneration or Non-Fiction. You probobly will see what I mean about quality. If not, hey, I respect your opinion. They trying to cater to a different audience now. Every couple of years they do that. I guess I'm part of the audience who thought that the jazzier, smoother stuff was flawless.

I respect your opinion too, but that sounds totally backwards to me. XD He was so nasal back then!! I don't think they're trying to 'cater to a different audience', they're just always trying different styles. They're still too unique for me to consider it catering.

The jazzy was cool, but it was all the same.

'cept for Naked Shuffle. That rawked out loud.

wow that's funny. We went from Jun to Sawao, and bass to whole band music X_X

first off, i believe that most of their oldies were pretty good. "I Think I Can" "Little Busters"....you guys know all the songs i'm talking about. then they hit a bit of a slump...kinda around good dreams (which brought us Sono Mirai Wa Ima, which freakin rocked so the album's good enough for me) their best album, in my opinion being happy bivouac. then they got better with penalty life....i mean come on, who doesn't do the air guitar in TERMINAL HEAVEN'S ROCK's solo? really now. Then you got My foot, and you must admit that there are more than some 'ok songs at best' I mean come on! My Foot, The Third Eye, Nonfiction, Degeneration, March of the God, Gazelle City....there are just so many good songs on that album!

about Sawao's singing...i've always kinda gotten the feeling the members of The pillows were like, "..s**t we need a singer....rock paper siccors SHOOT!" XD because like...it doesn't seem like he's really been trained in singing at all...but that's cool. His earlyer stuff was really high, then the later stuff...it almost seemed like his voice cracked XDD, because it got a lot lower and had a deeper feel to it. I dunno, that's just what i think

Agreed by half, because 'I think I can' is from 2000 and 'Little Busters' is from 1998. sweatdrop I do think that they slumped starting at Penalty Life.
BTW, the older stuff I'm talking about is the jazzy stuff from 1993-1996. I dunno why I like the older stuff and dis-like the newer stuff. They seem kinda lifeless to me now. The older stuff seemed like it had more emotion buried within the music. It sounds to me like the pillows, now anyway, are trying to rush albums onto the shelfs. I still love 'em.

Dude, that's so the opposite of how I feel. XDDD Penalty Life was ******** awesome. And most of their oldies, like I said, sound really same-same to me. I just kinda sit there and listen to them like "Yeah, okay." Nothing like that with anything post Runners High.

Penalty Life is okay, I like TERMINAL HEAVEN'S ROCK, Lonesome Diamond, Dead Stock Paradise, and Mole Town Prisoner, but that's all.

Jun still isn't a member of the band.

And Sawao's singing is probably best on Living Field. It doesn't really get too questionable until Good Dreams.

I see this as sctrictly an opinion-based thing. I didn't think there was ANYTHING wrong with his singing on that album, (or any other part of the album for that matter) and New Year's Eve I think his singing was especially good.

yeah, i actually think his voice is just "maturing"

3 points of truth to Jomei.

While some people may be able to enjoy the sound of a different voice style more, Sawao's voice actually had what more people who specialize in vocal music would consider a good voice back during Living Field and Please Mr. Lostman. But especially Living Field.

If by "maturing" you mean that it's becoming more nasal and quavery, then yes. He's like...almost 40, of course his vocal quality is going to change. He still sings well, but he's no longer in his prime.
