Zher [.ZaKid.] Indeed, a lot of Metal Music can be very Christian. Bands like Disciple, Thousand Foot Krutch, and many others make a living off of it. It is decidedly..ignorant? to say that Metal cannot and is not Christian music. However, a few of the bands you mentioned are decidedly non-Christian. AC-DC is the one that jumps out very quickly, but Korn, and Slipknot also send up alarms. I've never heard of Lordi, Disturbed, or Flyleaf. Music is very powerful. It's incredibly how powerful it can be. The Beatles moved Generations and swayed opinions with their music. I'd be careful in secular music like that. It can be very influencing. Why not try some Christian Metal(Or even 'White-Metal') bands? Disciple, Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch are all very good. Or if you like Punk, Relient K, Hawk Nelson...hrmm..I'm having trouble with this one. Also, Depending on the denomination of the church, they may dislike loud music. I play in a Christian Punk band, and i've seen emotions range from churches that dislike how loud and crazy we are, to little old women yelling and screaming in joy as the heavy metal band after us went on and screamed their hearts out. All i'm saying is, keep your heart guarded from things that might be used to hurt your walk with Christ. Have a nice night. Well, I like heavy metal (loud music, screaming, yelling, ect)... I just like it. but my problem is that I cannot find very many heavy metal christian bands... Lordi is definatly christian, I am starting to think Disturbed is not.. and I just go intoduced to flyleaf... I really dislike rap, most punk, and alot of country (most of it)... So i guess i am a metal head. I want to get out of music that sings: "I am not a slave to a god that does not exist" -Merlin Manson To christian music.... eek sweatdrop How in the word would you even think that disturbed is christian? I know they have a song called "prayer"...but..wow. I've been on both sides of the spectrum. I'm one of the few girls that are totally into death metal. Now i listen to ONLY christian death metal. Let's clear this up. NOT CHRISTIAN-Distrubed, Slipknot, Korn, Otep, In flames, Metallica, Linkin Park, System of a Down, Seether, Evanescence, Nine Inch Nails, Dethklok, Nightwish, AFI, The agony Scene, Stone Sour, Static-X, Staind, Three Days Grace. And others that i just don't know of right now. CHRISTIAN- Cirimson Moonlight(death metal at it's best!), Skillet, Relient K, Thousand Foot Krutch, Zao, Norma Jean, Demon Hunter, As i lay dying, Killswitch Engage, Disciple, Falling up, RED, Kutless, and Flyleaf. Any more questions, ask me or another lovely gentleman who introduced me to crimson moonlight.

Quote: Doesnt this just make you mad? Such as at church, so many ignorant christians! It makes me dislike church(and a couple other reasons). Also for example, my mom. I lissen to Disturbed (i also lissen to Lordi, Slip-Knot, Flyleaf, Korn, Weird AL ,AC-DC, and a ton other metal and death metal)...But she is too ignorant to lissent to reason that Disturbed is a christian band, and metal CAN be christian... They just piss me off. Does it to you also??? I partially agree. Some people can be so ignorant, and it gives the world a bad image that Christians are idiots. But even though your mom was somewhat ignorant, it's because of the other bands you listen to that she assumes, metal can't be Christian, which is a good point. If your someone doesn't know alot about metal, what will they think? What you're listening to. You know what also makes me mad besides ignorant people? Hypocrites! They make it look like CHristianity is a joke, and it's not real, and we can disobey our own laws to having fun... anyways, little off topic I guess.

Zher Yes they are.. have you read the lyrics??? Or are you judging them on how they look?? No, Tomi Putaansuu (the lead singer) specifically stated that they 'weren't a gospel band', when questioned about their religious affiliations. source.

At any rate, you have to remember that we live in a culture where the head idol is entertainment. You can see how a lot more professing Christians want to have something related to music, instead of desiring to reach out for the poor, the homeless, the forgotten. After our world culture was Americanized, it is difficult not to find this thirst of worship for music and whatnot.
Please keep in mind that in our days most churches are like a "circus": They just to attract people. I'm currently reading John MacArthur's "Hard to Believe," where he talks about this church that says something like: "We promise that you'll be entertained and have a good time listening to our music band."
Remember: We are not here to sing or listen to music... we're here to give living worship to the living God, and with worship I mean reverentiating Him for all His attributes, for who He is, and for what He has done. It saddens me to see so much professing Christians around the world burning their eyelashes doing things that die from a day to another, or consuming their strengths doing things that is not definitely not focusing on the eternal.
Instead of focusing so much in ourselves (which I believe is the essence of the true bad "Christian") and in music, we should remember Miccah 6:8 and do our main duty. Of course, not all of us will be teachers or preachers, but it is the duty of every Christian to share the testimony of the great things the Lord has done in our lives... even to the point of rejection by the world (and by some professing Christians), and even to the point of death.

We have too many people calling themselves a Christian, when they live lives far from being Christ-like. Music is always going to be an area where we in America fight. People get old and foget that they had the same fight with their children. But, parents do sometimes have a point. There is a lot of music out there that for Christians, is nothing but filth and junk. Word to the wise, don't believe someone is a Christian because they thank God and say certain things. Satan runs around disguised as an angel of light. Not everything is always as it seems. Not everyone who says they are a Christian is? But you can tell by their love and their obedience.

the one thing in the world that gets me angry, beyond angry, are people claiming to be christian, but arn't. I've heard people try to make a case for calling themselves christian, but not beleiving Jesus was nything but a very good prophet. The problem is we cannot seem to ever hard-line anything, DEFINE what it means to be christian, I mean, look at the denominations, they formed because we cannot agree on minute details that don't even matter. We can't agree on the big things either, so we're so diverse, it's impossible to say to anyone that they arn't christian, even if they arn't acting like it.

(BTW, we live in a place were there isn't a lot of strong Christian youth.) My older sister has this "Christian" guy in one of her classes, who first of all is just nerdy and SOOOOO obnoxious that NO ONE can stand stand him. So that in itself isn't planting a good image in peoples' minds of a Christian. But then, as if that's not enough, one day, he just randomly walked up to one of her friends who is gay and was all "You know what, you are going to burn in Hell, because you're gay! And I am so happy that God hates you because I don't want to share heaven with you gay person!" Like, WTH???

It's just another example of how things go when we, as humans, put our own intellect and understanding before the things that the Lord reveals through His word. We always come out looking like fools. Our ways are so finite in comparison to the Master's will. There's no way we could fully understand what is on His mind. How do we know, then? We read His word and follow it, not drifting to the right or to the left. We concentrate on His word and allow it to change us!! It's far too easy to distort the word of God by adding out own understanding to it.
Now, as far as the music argument goes, it's fairly simple. The real music is in the lyrics, not the way that the sound is played. A person can praise the same God with the same lyrics, yet have radically different sounds (example: a classical pianist and a death metal guitarist). Music is a powerful tool, both for edification and for corruption, so we have to be careful. I always try to read the lyrics of a song that I like to really understand whether or not I can afford to listen to it, because I want to keep my mind clean.
...and to throw my hat into the whole "anti-gay" bit that seems to get us all into massive amounts of embarrassment with our society, God created people with free will, but He also has a design for us all. I see sin is a perversion of God's original design that is exercised through our free will. I'm going to get into a lot of trouble with this next statement, but I'm going to say it anyway. Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice brought about through our free will by giving in to the temptation to misuse our bodies in such a manner ("normalized" addictions to things like pornography are among the same style of misuse, so we straight arrows aren't completely guiltless). No one is born as a homosexual. However, regardless of what strongholds the enemy of our souls may have over our lives, we serve a God that loves us all the same. He is as a parent to us, in that He hates the things we do, but loves us all as though we were perfect.
...and we, as Christians, must strive to love all the people of this world as our Holy Lord Jesus loves us, having died on our behalf while we were still His enemies!! This is not left up to choice. We are ordered to do so, and what may separate the true believers from the false ones could be left to a single question: are we willing to love the lost ones of this world in the same manner?
Think about it.

If we were not to have any music but that approved by the elders in church then why are we not singing the Psalms from the OT? They are the only ones that God deemed fit to have included in the Bible. If the Music gives the message of Salvation and that God loves us then it is good music. You have to remember to be of the world but not in the world. Watch what they are saying in the lyrics, if they are not about God then you should get rid of that music.
