But what about Relena slap from Endless Waltz? Mariemaia got one serious case of whiplash. Admittedly though, Relena beat Une to it.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 12, 2006 6:33 pm

Yeah that redeemed Relena in my eyes, but Cathy slapped a gundam pilot, pretty hard too.

Honestly, Cathy's wasn't a slap so much as a punch. And I say Noin's was better than Une's because Une's didn't seem very forceful. Noin's had a lot more "POW! Right in the kisser!" to it. Case in point:

And now...

DVD 3

***

Yup, so I DID decide to jump ahead a few episodes. Once more, the phone is out, not to mention there's nothing on TV that I like. So... ::pops in the DVD::

Episode 11: The Whereabouts of Happiness

Hmm, this episode uses the audio from the alternate opening (which replaces the nice, opening-quality shots of the Gundams in action with clips from the show). I guess Bandai didn't use that version. Probably did the same for the alternate, semi-spoiler-free Rhythm Emotion OP.

Of course, it figures I'd miss the DVD with the critical early episodes like Scenario for Bloodshed and Heero Distracted by Defeat, and only get the aftermath.

I'm serious man, I wanna know where the Maganacs are hiding. That's a pretty lush stretch of desert right there.

Hey, that Maganac's sword looks a lot like Sandrock Custom's ZOMG bigass shotel.

Noin: "All the important parts have been destroyed." And here people ***** about how ineffective the self-destruct system is. If they didn't have Tallgeese, OZ would never have rebuilt Wing.

Hee hee, she said "Gundanium no katamari". ::gets mental images::

Well, OZ knows now that the Gundams were coordinating against them. That's not good.

Duo knows of the Winner family which, IMO, makes the fact that nobody recognizes Trowa's surname all the stranger.

And there's the source of Duo's "I may run and hide, but I never lie!" line.

Heh, Relena's cute when she's all upset. Then again, I think she's cute just about any time, so I'm just biased. razz

I'm sort of amazed that she'd wear a dress as showy as that. It's not a sight on what women wear in the real world, but for Relena it's rather flashy.

Heh, Weridge knew the Peacecraft family well enough to recognize Relena on sight, despite the fact that she disappeared at age 2; still, he says "Katrina-sama", I suppose the idea that he's Relena's grandfather is just made up to let her into the party.

I gotta ask, if Weridge is a supporter and friend of the Peacecrafts, why is he in Romefeller now? Trying to change things from the inside?

Jeez, that's some pretty violent talk, Miss Pacifist...

The girls in the Maganacs' village are really pretty.

Wow, Tragos are getting some use. They're like the black sheep of OZ...er, black goats...well, you know what I mean.

Bah, that one soldier talking to Sadaul seems nice enough, but there's OZ planting bombs throughout the village.

...Jeez, Rashid is huge. I know the boys are young, but they're still around 5 foot. If that's a correct scale, Rashid's gotta be 7-foot-something.

That speech was pretty stirring for something impromptu.

And here come the Oliphants. This is just the episode of neglected MS, isn't it?

The Maganacs' beam rifle seems to be more of a machinegun, or an assault rifle. Plus, we get to see the Tragos' machinegun.

Wish we had a clear shot of that bazooka Duo was using...

Gotta give Relena credit for being willing to fight even when surrounded by soldiers and MS.

Yup, Noin is badass.

***

Episode 12: Bewildered Warriors

Thanks a lot, Heero. Your little self-destruct idea gave the series its own version of the Nichol scene. I hope you're happy.

I'm impressed, the news media doesn't immediately start kissing up to OZ once they gain power.

I swear, all the people who ***** about Wing just gloss over the details, don't they? They whine about Heero surviving the self-destruct, but ignore that he was badly enough injured to be comatose for a month and had a good portion of his body bandaged up. I'm pretty sure it's possible for even average humans to survive in similar fashion.

The curse of Catherine's soup begins...

Hey, that OZ guy on the TV looks a bit like what I envisioned David Dermail, the main villain of Codename Lightning, looking like. Just a hair older than I imagined. May have to ask someone to sketch him based off of that. ::screencaps::

Hee hee hee hee, "Dying hurts like hell" still makes me laugh.

Sally and her rebels fight OZ while Wu Fei birdwatches. Whee.

The way the narration talks about the Bundt Republic, I weep for the mapmakers in the AC world. Sounds like they go through as much hell as their modern counterparts.

Heh, the old model Leo's faceguard slaps down when the main camera is shot out. Seems a little useless in retrospect.

"I don't intend to fight." Apparently, Wu Fei's definition of "fight" doesn't include OHKOs.

Sally asks if "Nataku" is the Gundam's name and Woofie doesn't answer. More implication that Episode Zero was planned from the start. It also meshes with the idea that he personally refused to fight, but Mei Lan/Nataku would have helped them, so he chose to follow her path.

Ah, and here's an explanation for Wu Fei's logic: he prefers to fight strong opponents because he considers himself a coward if he can only defeat those weaker than himself. And THIS is the logic that makes people believe he's a heartless monster? Jeez.

Bundt is making a deal with M. Bison? O_o;;

Ow, I really feel sorry for Nanaki. He was actually a decent soldier, and he got stabbed in the back by a power-hungry monster.

Jeez, the poor resistance soldiers are getting shredded. Too bad that's what it takes to get Wu Fei's head out of his butt.

And as Bundt gets javelin'd, I only have one thing to say: OWNED.

I swear, Wu Fei's whole "weak" and "strong" thing is resolved in this episode, but nobody seems to notice...

And there it is. "There's nothing wrong with acting on your emotions. At least, that's what I was taught."

***

Episode 13: Catherine's Tears

Yay, it's the Alex and Meuller episode. Now I get to see their worthless asses get smoked.

The Alliance seems quite impressed that one Cancer and one Aries can do so much against their defenses; this pretty well illustrates how MS are handled in all of Gundam.

Hmm, Alex and Meuller's glasses are connected to the same wire as their mouthpieces. I guess they have some kind of miniaturized HUD.

I laugh at the fact that these two dumbasses claim to follow Treize, and yet carry out executions on surrendered Alliance soldiers.

And here an OZ tech says that the self-destruct system in Wing couldn't have worked any better. So basically, the only complaint those whiners have is that it didn't kill Heero; apparently, they don't realize how absurd it is to want the main character to die about a fifth of the way through the series...

Zechs thinks Heero could realize the Tallgeese's true potential; an interesting idea. Too bad it was never explored any further.

I have to wonder, if the Noventa Cannon is so impressive, why'd the put it at the a** end of nowhere instead of somewhere that actually NEEDED defense?

These two are pretty stupid, underestimating Zechs and assuming he won't be able to stop them from slaughtering the Alliance soldiers.

::Meuller is killed:: THAT was satisfying.

::Zechs rips Alex's Cancer in half:: And that was MORE satisfying.

Hee hee, the OZ soldiers think that Heavyarms is just a prop for Trowa's performance.

Hey, they DID play "In the Returned Scent of Blood and Gunpowder" (Trowa's battle theme) in the series. Guess Duo's is the only one that they didn't use in any form (Quatre's sort of qualifies thanks to "Sandy Clock of a Sad Color").

DISCO GUN: BACK IN THE HABIT!

Still say Heavyarms' little front flip to shield Cathy there was pretty impressive.

Maybe it's just because I'm a dork for this kind of thing, but it bothers me how they inconsistantly animate Heavyarms' cockpit door. In some scenes, the orange part is a section of the shutters covering the chest Gatlings, but in others, it's separate and opens on a hinge. I'm just glad that's not a problem with Heavyarms Custom.

And just to reiterate: "The way to live a good life is to act on your emotions."

***

Episode 14: The Order to Destroy 01

And this episode introduces Sylvia Noventa, a popular alternate for Heero's girlfriend by fanfic authors who don't like Relena. Though honestly, it's a pretty absurd notion, assuming that some random girl he met once would be romantic with him. It's like assuming that Random Villager #2 is going become Ed Elric's wife, or something like that.

Don't get where Relena and Noin found their Sanc Kingdom outfits. It's like, they disappear for two episodes, and the next thing you know, they're in Bremen going to ***** at Romefeller.

There's a real irony here; Noin suggests that Romefeller developed combat MS out of a desire to regress from push-button warfare to more noble times, and yet in the near future, they're going to develop a weapon about as soulless as nuclear bombs...

LOL @ Noin patting Relena down to search for a pistol.

Dermail is just a giant sack of crap, yanno? Saying that the only way to bring peace is through control and not understanding?

Man, Treize sounds really arrogant here. "God let man run freely, causing chaos. For order, we need a system over and above God." I'm sure he doesn't mean it, but that doesn't make it sound any better.

And Treize recognizes the determination in Relena's eyes as the same in Heero's.

The shot of the half-built Wing's head shows that its vulcans are five-barreled.

Man, Relena is one angry young woman...

Hee hee, gotta love how Heero and Trowa jack a downed Aries.

LEO PUNCH! (Actually, shoulder tackle THEN punch, but that doesn't sound as good.)

Wow, the explosion that destroyed the dummy Wing was pretty big...

***

Episode 15: To the Battlefield, Antarctica

The car following Heero and Trowa has a dove hood ornament; was it sent by Noin, rather than OZ as everyone seems to think?

The Sanc Kingdom's newspaper (which Relena and Pagan are browsing online) seems to be modelled after the New York Times. That, and it gives the date as July 14th. There's a nice frame of reference. Plus it seems that Relena is keeping up with her school thanks to video conferencing (though the window says "Saint Micael" (sic)).

And now we get the cute little scene where Treize observes a family at a picnic (or so I'd guess) and we see the baby take his first steps. A bit more insight into his character.

XD It took Relena all of one second to debate opening someone else's letter, then do it anyway. I swear, why do people hate Relena Darlian (her early series persona) so much? She's so...human. It's really funny to see the person the series makes out to be larger than life doing things like this.

"See? Heero was alive after all!" Is she...talking to the audience? O_o;; Has this girl been talking to Deadpool or something?

Why is Acht wearing an Alliance uniform when he's loyal to Romefeller?

...Did Noin just get a Newtype flash? It had the sound effect...

And the Heavyarms Flatspin, which is of course ownage.

End of DVD 3

I didn't get as many comments in this DVD, I guess because there wasn't as much surprising stuff as in the first. It's still interesting to catch up on all this, but I wonder if there will be as much stuff to write about on future DVDs as there was on the first.

Cathy's got the better slap. If I remember right she's slapped two gundam pilots. I can't remember if she slapped Trowa or not.

Episode 11 rocks. You get to see little miss pacifist with a pretty gun in her hand. 12 is kickass too. Not because some of Wufei's issues are solved but because you see two dead bodies. Actual dead bodies with blood. Normally the dead bodies are stuck in their destroyed MS.

That one there wasn't a slap so much as a shove, really.

Here's a two-for-one, since these two didn't get a lot of comments.

DVD 4

***

Episode 16: The Sorrowful Battle

Filchner Ice Shelf! THAT'S where Zechs' little base is...and it's called Barclay Base, to boot.

I can understand that Heero and Trowa aren't exactly nice to an OZ officer, but it does seem a bit out of place since Zechs is hardly the drum-beating Romefeller supporter.

Hee hee, Heero's never shaken hands with anyone before that point?

You know, I didn't realize that Relena grew her hair that long. I thought it was ribcage-length, but in that scene it goes all the way to her waist.

She's got her own private VTOL? Swanky.

Heh, I think that's the moment when Zechs made Noin his sister's bodyguard.

Okay, I guess Heero and Zechs' duel WAS in Siberia after all.

Still love Heero's strategy to use snow clouds to disrupt thermal sensors.

I doubt it was a concern when GW was made, but it looks like all MS have some of the same basic programming; otherwise, Heavyarms wouldn't be able to bust out with a beam saber like that.

For all the people who support Trowa/Relena, I think they just exchanged the only dialogue they have in ALL of official Gundam Wing just there. Nine lines total, all of them related to Heero. Yeah, that's some real romance there.

Wow, they really made Tallgeese look big in thie fight.

You know, the line "a knight of the Peacecraft family" suggests that they were always okay with defense, just not attacking. Because, as I'm sure everyone knows, there's a distinct difference between being strong and assertive and being weak and a pushover.

That's a buttload of Aries...

***

Episode 17: Betrayed by Home, Far Away

It seems sort of odd that the Space Leo's hand rotates around repeatedly. You'd think it would screw with the wiring or something.

There we are, the first appearance of Saint Une.

First appearance of Mobile Dolls, too. Still seems a bit strange that their control levers move on their own; I suppose that's why they eliminated the cockpit from the Virgo series, because it's totally superfluous.

You know, showing battle footage at a peace conference doesn't seem like a good idea to me...

Third-generation colonists? Seems to suggest that generations are about 70 years apiece here. Dunno how that compares to modern times.

I gotta say, Saint Une is actually kinda cute.

It's interesting that the older colonists are the only ones to support the boys.

OZ was actually playing it smart and destroying the transports to prevent escape. Good for them.

I'm sorry, but Sandrock's shotel throw is so incredibly badass. It bothers me that they've NEVER included it in an SRW.

DISCO GUN 2: SUPERBABIES!

Man, it really is like Colonel Une has no idea what Saint Une is doing...

Honestly, it seems like Sandrock's response to the self-destruct system's activation is too "smart". I mean, if it were pre-programmed, then it just conveniently knew to shield the cockpit, wait the exact right amount of time for Quatre to get out, then walk towards the enemy forces. That's too many coincidences for me.

Hee hee, the old men really do give off the attitude of being like older versions of their protoges.

***

Episode 18: Tallgeese Destroyed

Hmm, the moon is pretty close to Barge in that shot. I don't think it's at L1, tho, so that leaves L4 and L5.

Of course, you've got to give Treize credit for this plan to have Zechs keep in good with OZ even as he "dies".

Stupid old men, talking about replacing human soldiers with those dolls...

Yup, Treize has the worst character armor in the show...and this time I've got proof.

I notice that Wing goes out of its way to show that there are good and bad people on all sides - Alliance, OZ, Mariemaia Army...basically, that there's no absolute evil or perfect good. Unlike a certain "pre-ordained" series I can think of...

The Taurus can pull at least 8Gs...assuming it's unpiloted.

It was a pretty smart idea to use former Alliance soldiers to fight Zechs, since OZ soldiers might hesitate.

Man, the dobergun's got a lot of ammo in that clip...

Damn, he just completely owned that sub. XD

And here we get Heero's little school speech, always a hit.

I dunno if it was intentional, but they really make it look like Heero's reading from a blank sheet of paper there...

***

Episode 19: Assault on Barge

The Sweeper Group has a nice little mecha-island right there...

Saint Une is really shiny...

It's sort of funny that the two most symbolic Gundams in the series lose their most symbolic elements in this episode (Deathscythe's scythe and Shenlong's dragon fang arm).

Wow, OZ has MS sleds, like they do in the UC.

Heero is an evil little b*****d, isn't he? Tricking the MD into targetting the OZ astrosuit...

And as the episode ends, Zechs makes some comments that sound like the opposite of Char's famous "Earth's gravity is holding down our souls" stuff.

***

Episode 20: The Lunar Base Infiltration

LOL @ the Maganacs' antics. They could make their own A-Team style show. I know I'd watch.

Double Dobergun Action!

And now Trowa breaks Saint Une's brain.

***

End of DVD 4

Ugh, I lost my notes on the first three episodes thanks to the lappy freezing. I'll have to go back and redo them another day. Still, I managed to slam out three discs in these two days. Unfortunately, this whole project will probably collapse as soon as DSL is restored...

***

DVD 5

***

Episode 21: Grief-Stricken Quatre

Man, that damaged Leo got some milage on it, didn't it? And Quatre survived the whole time with some bad injuries...

You know, for a new recruit, Trowa sure made his way up the OZ ranks pretty fast.

I dunno about anyone else, but I find it amusing that Heero, a Gundam Pilot, refers to the Tallgeese as "shiroi yatsu" ("the white one"), the same nickname Zeon pilots used for Amuro's Gundam.

Heero is pretty good at maneuvering un-noticed in space, isn't he? Here, and in EW...

It's still pretty funny that out of all five boys, the one who has the angry homecoming is the one everybody seems to think is too sweet and innocent to hurt anyone.

***

Episode 22: The Fight for Independence

Treize has had ties with the Kingdom since he was young? Very Eeenteresting...

It's nice to see that Septum's family wasn't a bunch of idiots the way he was.

***

Episode 23: The Return of Duo, the Shinigami

The incomplete Virgo looks a good deal like a Leo. And it's fun to note that the engineers compare Tsubarov's attitude towards the space colonies to the attitude people had towards colonies back in olden days.

Heh, Sally's earned a reputation as a dangerous rebel and mercenary.

The first scene with Hilde really sort of emphasizes her connection to Duo.

And I guess OZ's MS sleds have beam cannons in the nose.

Duo has definitely grown up some since the series began.

***

Episode 24: The Gundam Called Zero

Interesting to note that the upgrade Gundam appears almost exactly halfway through the series in Wing.

***

Episode 25: Quatre vs Heero

Not much to say here, honestly. This is another straightforward episode.

***

End of DVD 5

Hmm, I'm finding less to notice in these episodes than before. Perhaps I've hit the point where the editorial disputes that lead to Episode Zero's removal struck, and there's less subtlely in these episodes. Either way, I find it's much more effective to watch the series with all the background information I now possess. It makes me appreciate the show even more than I did on my first runthrough.

Ah... episode 16... the episode that hooked my preteen mind on Gundam Wing forever with what is still my favorite battle of the entire series. So many fond memories...

Also, alot more UC references than you'd initially think of if you weren't very familiar with both.

Sorry for the long delay, bbut I got sidetracked...and now I'm back!

DVD 6

***

Episode 26: The Eternal Flame of the Shooting Stars

The title of this episode always struck me as strange. I hadn't thought about it before, but I guess it is relevant; given everything that's happened lately in the show, the title seems to suggest that this is the episode where the boys get their resolve back: the "flame" of the five shooting stars that fell to Earth.

Why'd they put a red filter over the "previously on Gundam Wing" scenes?

Romefeller is VERY short-sighted; they're just going to destroy the Gundams rather than finding a use for them?

People wonder how Treize got the data to make System Epyon? Well, here's your explanation. The Treize Faction rescued Heero and Quatre and took them to the engineers, who apparently had a copy of the ZERO System, or at least a reasonable facsimile.

ZERO System amplifies and controls the brainwaves associated with combat, producing better results. However, it seems that those with an unstable mind are too severely affected and begin to suffer from the modified brainwaves; that is, they see enemies everywhere and halucinate about their own deaths. Suddenly, the ZERO System makes a lot more sense.

Master O comments that physically, the boys are incredible soldiers, but their mindset holds them back. That's interesting to note.

Dr. J seems to have a whole lot more faith in Heero than the other old men have in their protegees. Maybe it's because they've known one another for so long.

Heero senses Quatre's pain while they're fighting... *coughnewtypecough*

Wait, where exactly IS Zero's cockpit hatch? The TV version has it in the belly, while Custom's is on top of the chest.

DAMN but Mercurius' self-destruct packs a punch!

***

Episode 27: The Locus of Victory and Defeat
Episode 28: Passing Destinies

Clip show! Sorry Princess, you may be my favorite character, but Mitsuo Fukuda has ensured that I will never willingly tolerate a clip show ever again - ESPECIALLY since this is what we got instead of animated Episode Zero. If it makes you feel any better, Treize gets the same treatment, so instead we're jumping ahead to...

***

Episode 29: The Heroine of the Battlefield

Heh, and yet again from Heero: "Kindness isn't needed in war, but it's needed the rest of the time."

Once more: Noin is a freaking badass.

Judging by Heero's computer scans, the boys are currently in Australia...or else, they're in the Pacific somewhere off the coast of California. I think I'll stick with the former.

Jeez, Quatre was able to figure out that the Kingdom is tracking down Wing and its pilot, but Romefeller can't? Stupid old men wouldn't know a computer from a toaster...

I find myself questioning Heero's piloting ability...not MS, but vehicles. Every time I've seen him in an airplane or a spacecraft, he lets someone else pilot while he sits in the co-pilot's chair, apparently napping. Either he isn't confident with his abilities in that area, or it's one of the few times he sleeps.

Man, why couldn't Noin have kept this civilian outfit? That cowboy-looking thing she wears later on just looks dumb.

That's one blinged-out pimpmobile Dorothy's got...

Okay, holy ****, Dorothy's car is ****ing hueg. X-Box hueg. ::screencaps::

Dorothy's a pretty good actress, yanno?

***

Episode 30: The Reunion with Relena

I gotta say, Heero's resistance to going to the Kingdom really feels like a fight between a married couple. The man never wants to admit that he's wrong, no matter if he is or not.

Yeah, Dorothy's really giving me vibes that she's attracted to Heero...

I notice they use the Macross engine sound for Aries. Makes me laugh.

Ah, so this is the episode with the legendary Blue Leader...

I'd swear at least one of the Relena Stormtroopers is in the Kingdom now.

What's that? Why, I believe it's the sound of Dorothy kissing the Royal Booty.

Quatre just jacked an Aries by kicking its pilot out of the cockpit. That's cold-blooded right there.

ARIES PUNCH!

I still say the scene at the end of this episode is really cute.

***

End of DVD 6

I'm surprised, I got more good comments this time, even if you consider that I skipped two episodes. I guess the revelation of Zero and the formal introduction of the Sanc Kingdom helped jumpstart things, which were getting a little slow in the space arc.

***

DVD 7

***

Episode 31: The Glass Sanc Kingdom

New DVD menu this disc, using Rhythm Emotion. ...But we won't get RE as an opening for another ten episodes.

Yup, Heero's still giving off the air of a man who knows his girlfriend/wife is right and doesn't want to admit it...

Ouch, they think he's a servant?

Heh, I like how coquettish and feminine Relena is acting. It's actually changing my mind about her "Ms. Serious Business" attitude from EW being the best. I guess I like her better when she acts her age.

...And all the girls at the school sound a little too pleased to be getting male classmates. <_<;;

It's an all-girl school, except for those two? ::looks at his incomplete ADRIFT game:: >_>;;

"Because I hear you hate weak women!" I think her wires got crossed there...

Jeez, get this boy on Utena. He'll clean up.

It's nice to see the Treize Faction soldiers are so noble.

Heh, Heero does something nice for Relena because he owes her. Too bad that something nice is getting Treize Faction members to join the Imperial Guard.

TAURUS FINGAAAA!!

Nice shot, Heero, you almost killed the Princess. Jeez...

I swear, you have to actively be TRYING to misconstrue Relena's actions as naivette or stupidity. She admits her own inexperience and does her best to overcome it by learning more and understanding the heart of warfare.

Well, there's my semi-confirmation that Dorothy's bi. <_<;;

***

Episode 32: The Grim Reaper Meets Zero

This has come up in the past, but it's more appropriate to mention now: I notice that even the uncut version goes out of its way to avoid referring to Deathscythe Hell by its proper name, usually just calling it "Deathscythe". I know that there were some real censorship issues over here, like how the action figures and models had to shorten the "Hell" to simply "H" in order to sell them in places like Wal-Mart.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Deathscythe can turn invisible. ::screencaps::

I gotta wonder...Duo says that D-Hell is still about 80% complete; that's as far along as it was six episodes ago. It makes me wonder if the events of this episode are happening concurrently with Heero and Quatre's adventures on Earth.

Looks like there are some sealed cylinder colonies at L2, like at Side 3 (they're in the same location).

I'm guessing Duo's colony here is one for Sweepers, judging by the fact that all the houses seem to have scrapheaps in their backyards.

***

Episode 33: The Lonely Battlefield

I wish they'd decide whether Tallgeese's dobergun is a shell-firing cannon, a beam cannon, a beam machinegun, or whatever...

Well, there's the bit where he uses a Hizack missile launcher.

Heh heh heh... "May I sit here?" "Hey, it's your country."

Stupid Dorothy, ruining the moment.

TAURUS KICK!

Yeah, for all the accusations of naivette, Relena questions her own ideals in this episode. All this rewatch is doing is confirming my belief that most of Wing's detractors didn't bother watching it intelligently, and simply parrot the same weak, disproven arguments over and over.

Okay, I misunderstood; the episode preview here DOES call Epyon evil, but it says that Zero is as well...

***

Episode 34: Its Name is Epyon

Yes, that's right, Heero hates Relena. Which is why every time it looks like he's about to die, he thinks about her.

Hey, Hi-Mo Leos.

Wait, how did Treize put Heero's voice and fingerprints into his database? o_O;;

Treize is using that elaborate ceremonial gun that Dermail gave him upon resignation.

I like how they play "The Legend of Zero" for Epyon's big unveil.

If I wanted to be snide, I'd comment that they probably decided to make the beams in this series yellow so they could more easily interchange stock footage of bullets and shells with beam blasts. If I wanted to be snide.

You'd think that since OZ has the ability to make Gundanium, they'd understand what it took to destroy it. Or at least, they would have lobbed a handful of grenades into the cockpit to begin with.

Yup, there it is: System Epyon. (Note that I don't capitalize because, to my knowledge, it isn't an acronym, unlike ZERO System).

I gotta say, I like Heero's Epyon pilot suit. For those of you who don't know what it looks like, imagine Zechs' pilot suit from the latter part of the series (the purple and white one) with blue instead of purple. Or better yet; ::screencaps::

***

Episode 35: Wu Fei Returns

I like Trowa and all, but he looks like a drowned rat in the opening scene.

...Oh my ****ing God, Master Long's voice in the Japanese version is absolute ****. Not THE ****, just plain ****. Like, **** from a butt. Either there were some wires crossed about Long's gender in the dub, or the Japanese got an elderly woman to play him...and if it's the former, I fully support the dub.

This is the episode where Wu Fei picks up the whole ideal of Justice. And for all the people who think that's all he ever talks about, I feel the need to point out that we're 14 episodes away from the end of the series.

Big-Altron! It's SHOWTIME!

I'm curious as to how Romefeller knew about Peacemillion, since it's been buried on the moon for years. Even then, their information seems to be inaccurate, since they want Libra to be the same calibre as a lightly-armed (if at all armed) space exploration ship.

Uh-oh, some of Romefeller's constituent nations want to leave and join the Kingdom. That's not gonna end well.

Wait, what? Is that supposed to be the Kingdom? I was under the impression that it was much larger...like, as in all of Scandinavia. It doesn't even look like a portion of Europe I recognize. Maybe someone else will. ::screencap::

I have to say, I understand that Cathy wants to protect Trowa, but it seems a bit selfish to think that having him remain ignorant of his surroundings is doing anything but helping. In a way, it's robbing him of his free will by forcing him to accept her view on things.

Got in a bit more analysis this time. Glad to see things are picking up some more. Of course, now we're getting into the final arc of the series, so I imagine I'll have a lot to write about.

Hey! You're calling Duo unstable! That's so sweet.
More proof the people were idiots for letting the guy responsible for Episode Zero go.
Or, Heero's too good to pilot the inferior technology, nah, he's just lazy if you ask me.
lol, Gundam Grand Theft Auto style W00T
Simple Void, Treize has connections.
EXACTLY!! Why do you think Master Long is so creepy!!
Go Cathy!!

Episode 36: Sanc Kingdom's Collapse

This little rebel meeting here is apparently the first hint at White Fang. And one of the members looks like Light Newman. >_>

Yeah, it's really funny how blatant Romefeller is. "We trust the Sanc Kingdom and want to learn from its people! ...Just let us park this army of MD at your borders first."

XD Hilde thinks Trowa is cute, and it seems to get under Duo's skin. Seems pretty well proof that he likes her.

...The Kingdom's capital is New Port City? This whole time, I've been calling it St. Andrews City. Boy, do I look dumb now... >
And now Relena and Dorothy's ideological debates turn into a political catfight. No mud, tho. >_>

...Is Dorothy hitting on Relena? At NOW of all times?! Cripes, man...

I forgot that they played Rhythm Emotion in this episode...

***

Episode 37: Zero vs Epyon

Still find it strange that they use "The Legend of Zero" more for Epyon. And ow @ those Romefeller soldiers; Heero didn't even bother turning the heat rod on to kill them.

Is Dermail a cow's backside? Because right now, he's spouting a lot of bullshit...

Heh, Tsubarov made the classic villain mistake of declaring himself invincible...and promptly died two seconds later. Once more, that was extremely satisfying.

***

Episode 38: The Birth of Queen Relena

Altron's dragon fangs are pretty mean...they just keep punching straight through enemy MS, instead of grabbing and crushing.

Hey, I think that's Maser piloting Noin's shuttle. GGF says that he's in Preventer, so I guess he did stick with Zechs and Noin this whole time.

I notice Wu Fei tends to only use one head of the twin beam trident in the series, but in EW he fights with both. Which style is better? Well, I'm no weapons specialist so I can't say.

The Queen of the World outfit looks much better when her hair is down. ::screencaps::

Gee, she just muttered his name and, however many hundreds of miles away, he reacted. *coughhintingcough*

Hey, Quattro Bajeena is in the circus audience! ::screencaps::

Heh, Quatre's got some sweet moves. Oh wait, I did it wrong. *ahem* SANDROCK KICK!

Rhythm Emotion in this episode too? I guess they used it as an insert song several times before upgrading it to full-on OP.

Never really thought to look before, but the Romefeller Foundation's building is the building they used for UCE headquarters in Another Century's Episode. Guess that game used a lot more of Wing in its plot than I thought before.

***

Episode 39: Trowa's Return to the Battlefield

Yay, the return of Marquis Weridge a good thirty episodes later! And he's kicking butt in the name of the Queen!

Dorothy's willing to betray her own grandfather? Maybe she DOES actually support Relena...

Hehehe, even when he's got amnesia, Trowa remembers how to spam.

Yeah, I know it's an easy target, but dammit Heero, if you want to kill people quit threatening them beforehand. The only worse thing you could do is say "What could possibly go wrong?"

***

Episode 40: A New Leader

LOL. Gotta love the Romefeller soldier saying "Destroy anyone who slanders peace!" after invoking Queen Relena's name in an attempt to get a handful of guerillas in Leos to surrender to an army of Virgos.

Hey Dermail, want some salt for that foot you just shoved in your mouth?

Ah Zechs, you always leave us wondering if you're serious or if you're just trying to help bring peace. I think I sort of prefer your manga incarnation a bit better; easier to understand.

Hmm...getting ever more suspicious that Dorothy is the greatest manipulator in the series...

End of DVD 8

Didn't quite have as much to write about this time...though I must say, reviewing the series has given me a few eye-openers regarding the cast - most notably the women. I think because the male cast has such prominent members (the boys, Zechs, Treize), the girls tend to get ignored. This is a rather unfortunate disservice, since it's really amazing to notice that a lot of the stereotypes are so horribly wrong. Noin isn't subservient to or useless without Zechs; she's actually pretty kickass. Relena is made out like some kind of plaster saint, but she shows a lot of genuine emotion, youth, and feminine passion (enough so that I'm starting to like early-series-Relena best of all, while most people hate her...). As for Dorothy...well, I already adored her character before, but watching the series again with a better understanding is really something. She's always confident and in control, just like how Trowa describes Heero. She seemed to be pushing Romefeller into supporting Relena instead of her grandfather. As I just said before, I'm starting to lean towards the idea that she's the show's master manipulator, not Treize like everyone says. Pretty impressive, considering most people are willing to write her off as just "forked-eyebrow *****" and leave it at that.

Well, as the series heads for the dramatic finale, I know what to expect in general, but not the specifics. I certainly hope I get thrown a few more curveballs regarding the characters; it's really nice to find this kind of depth in the show, especially when it flies in the face of all the people who write the cast off as stupid, mindless, and one-dimensional.

Episode 41: Crossfire at Barge

Yup, finally Rhythm Emotion as the opening. The alternate version tho, the one that uses animation from the show in place of all the fancy custom-made stuff.

Hey, there's Sayla.

Too bad for OZ...they only completed Barge Kai in this episode, and we all know what happens...

Hee hee, the Taurus laser guns look just like the 90mm machinegun from the OYW spinoffs, but painted green.

Uh, Heero, isn't it a bit counter-productive to fire off the TBR near something you're trying to capt...oh, forget it.

Red moons are really pretty, you know?

Maybe it's just me, but I think Relena's cute when she's angry.

I don't think these guys understand the concept of monarchy. One does not simply resign as a king or queen. Abdicate, maybe, but not resignation.

Jeez, Noin and the boys flew the whole way without a shuttle? That's gotta be a drain on the fuel.

***

Episode 42: Libra Launches

Hey, Nichol lived this long? Amazing.

Man, Romefeller's members are as fickle as puppies. They run to whomever is the latest person to hand them a bone.

There's a PS2 floating in space near that colony. o_O;; ::screencaps::

Yeah, now I feel bad for that Treize loyalist who went and suicided himself on that carrier.

Oooh, very important statement from Zechs: "Our actions don't reflect our personalities, do they Treize?"

Heero just tried to warn someone against suicide? Yeah, he's changed.

Virgo II beam saber! ::screencaps::

Jeez, even Dorothy's shuttle is pimped out. She'd feel right at home in the Akatsuki.

And now I'm left wondering if she's got a crush on Zechs too. Man...

***

Episode 43: Fire on Earth's Aurora

Hehehehe, gotta love how easily Heero screws with Duo's head.

What's that Quinze is calling Dorothy? Almost sounds like "Dorothy-jou", which IIRC means "queen" or "princess" or something like. It's probably just "Lady Dorothy" or something nice and formal like that.

That green sky over Romefeller HQ just looks unhealthy.

Yay for the formal introduction of the Gundam Team pilotsuit.

Relena: "Stupid shuttle...I've been flying towards Libra for the last two episodes, and I only get there with a couple of minutes left in this one? Next time, I'm renting a private flight..."

***

Episode 44: Go Forth, G Team

Her shuttle FINALLY arrived. Just damn.

Heh, Zechs flat out dismisses the idea that he's just doing Char's plan to force all humans into space.

This whole brother-sister scene would be really sweet if he weren't about to have her locked up so he can destroy the Earth...

Hmm, the exchange between Zechs and Quinze after the girls leave is very interesting. Makes Quinze sound less like a total nutjob.

Yup, Dorothy is playing Devil's Advocate, and loving every second of it.

Amazing, Dorothy actually caught at a loss for words.

Heero talks to Zero, and it seems to talk back. ::screencaps::

Hmm, judging by Dorothy's reaction, the Epyon-powered MD system showed them destroying the Gundams or some similar future. It seems that whenever Epyon makes a prediction, it's thwarted by Zero. Makes you think...

***

Episode 45: Signs of the Final Battle

Peacemillion requires a pretty big crew...

I'm sort of surprised. Dr. J is in plain view, and Relena didn't want to talk to him about anything.

I have to admit, White Fang's uniforms are functional without being overly showy like OZ's were.

***

End of DVD 9

Yup, here we are, coming on the final part of the series. This disc didn't have as much to talk about as past ones, but I imagine I'll have some things to say as I get to the conclusion.

Heh... I need to rewatch this just to catch all of these Dorothy-related things. I must pay more attention if and when I rewatch!

I rewatched all of Gundam Wing last Quarter with my friends in one sitting, movie and OAVs included. I noticed how Heeros' fourth suicide attempt is the coolest one of the entire series. He blows up his Gundam, and it looks awesome. I will admit that. The animators did a nice job of it.

Sure, Quatre is the sweet, and innocent one. But, I'm betting he suffered a mild psychotic break when he saw his father kill himself. I mean, wouldn't you? So, his behavior is completely understandable and reasonable.

But, I think that the last disk of the series is the best. Especially episode 48, I believe, where Quatre uses the Zero system willingly and then gets stabbed by Dorothy with a fencing rapier. O....o Ow.

As you can probably tell, Quatre is one of my favorite Gundam Pilots.
