Boy do I love these religious topics. I find the endless debate utterly fascinating. smile That is one thing people have to remember, in the case of religion, the debate will /always/ be endless.
What I believe is quite likely completely different from what the guy standing next to me in the order line at McDonalds is and his views will likely be different from the girl taking his order, etc., etc., ad infinitum. That's the beauty of us as a species, we can all have vastly different opinions, points of view and beliefs. However, as most species do, we also crave sameness and demand that those around us be alike and think similarly to feel comfortable. It's an odd contradiction.
Now my point (and I do have one...scary isn't it?), is that religious mythologies work in the same way. Each one is unique, even when they contain similar ideologies or concepts. By the same token, each claims the others are incorrect or false, thus, only those who believe in /their/ concept of God are truly acceptable.
What does /any/ of this have to do with homophobia in religion? Well, the sameness issue. Homosexuals are not "the same." They are "different." They do not fit within the accepted world view. Thus, they are "unnatural" and "God can't approve." It gives people a sense of unity to believe this. It's not new. The arguments are the same as those used when African Americans and women demanded equal rights. The only real difference is what bits of are used.
In the end, there really isn't a solution to the argument. This issue will pass and new ones will be found. Even if all the biblical texts removed from our current version of the Christian bible were put back, and the original Sanskrit it was all written in were correctly translated by someone who lived in that time period and knew the language well, there would still be interpretation issues.
Human nature thrives on change while still adversely demanding symmetry. We are odd critters aren't we? wink

AngelicDaughter5 You see the truth is...the bibal , much like many other laws in the U.S ...(The constitution) is only open for the interpritation of the people who is reading it at the time...people see what they want. Also with this statment ..peole can also twist it to whichever beleife they want to support. So thus these people you see professing these belifes ..may not stand for everyone. very true

Brandon Taylor I don't know what I believe. My homophobic parents tried to shove religion down my throat for years and now I have no taste for it. Maybe I'll figure it out some day, but mostly I don't care. I can't really call myself athiest of agnositic, so I just go for apathetic. That would really suck, my parents are pro gay and my sister is bi so it kinda makes life easier even though I am only curious so far.

I suppose I don't really believe in anything and I don't have much trust in the words of others.

That's pretty much how I feel and it doesn't help that my boyfriend's an athiest, so he doesn't care if I find religion or not.

Were you to bring a guy home (even as a friend) your parents would castrate him and lock you in a chastity belt the second he set foot of your lawn, yet were you to bring home a girlfriend they'd send ya to bible boot camp. rolleyes
