pyroboy31337 [.ZaKid.] Indeed, a Fretless bass is not made for Slap. The slapping sound comes from the strings hitting the frets. Thus you see the inherent problem with doing so on a fretless. No frets. I could be wrong, but i'm fairly sure that's true. Also, I love the sound of a good fretless. Thick and Low. One of the best sounds i've ever heard. I dissagree, completly. Naz has a nice four string fretless, is lap the s**t out of that thing, sounds wonderful. I'm always glad to be proven wrong. I had no idea you could slap on a fretless. I always heard that after a while it would just destroy the fretboard. I've wanted a fretless, but it doesn't suit the band I play in..

Thats what jaco did, but to be fair, he also coated his neck in about 10 layers of epoxy.

baka foot654 the finger bords are no different, their still the same wood, just without the frets, they still take the same ware and tear Actually it depends what brand you have. With the one I have, a Warwick, the fretboards are different woods on the fretlesses. My fretless has an Ebony fingerboard instead of a Rosewood like the fretted.

My fretless has an Ebony fingerboard instead of a Rosewood like the fretted. which are the two most common woods for a fret board, in fact, i would bet that most the players in this guild have one of those two on their bass, both of my uprights have ebony on them, my squire has rosewood, and my peavy has ebony, so it all depends on what the desiner and the player wants.

That's the reason I picked up a fretless Warwick, I was tired of Fender clones.

1. A good fretless sounds like pure sex. 2. If yours didn't sound good, it's probably just a shitty bass 3. Slap on a fretless is just as awesome, actually, borederline awesome-er as with a fretted. 4. Fretless basses aren't for beginners

Does "bending" ruin the fretboard? No one has mentioned it and I've always wondered. And Les Claypool uses mostly fretless for a wider range of sound.

I defretted my cheapo Ibanez. I was going to coat it in epoxy and fill in the frets, but I tried it raw, and it was actually a very good sound. The gaps didn't affect the tone at all. I still kind of want to put some epoxy on there to give it more of a mwah.
Oh, and try fingering right over the fingerboard.
