Dopplegangers are the same as a Double, or so I've read. The main duty of a doppleganger or double is to collect the Soul of the person theiy share the image of on the person's death.
Another duty they sometimes do is to report to the family of someone that has just died. For example, a mother might see the doppleganger of her son outside the house one morning while he is out of town or the country, later she finds out he was killed or died that afternoon.
Well that's what I've heard there maybe different theories on them.

Shanna66 dopplegangers, what are they? well, i have an idea i believe that each person has 2 personalities, one is the normal one, the other is deep in the subconcious. when you hear of people seeing their dopplegangers its their subconcious causing them to see their otherselves. you see, the other self wants dominence and eventually becomes strong enough to be seen by the person. the two halves of the mind then "duke" it out for dominence. only one wins, the other loses, and so disapears, leaving only one half of the mind. and since the body cant function with only half a mind, the person dies. so, what do you think? Thank you very much for replicating this thread. I remember it being there before the update but I don't think we have one about them, specifically now (other than this). I think the dopplegangers are many things. Ancient folklore speaks of the previous example and others, amazingly. Some cases include the doppelgangers being seperate, posessor entities, and others speak of them like changelings. It's really hard to tell... I thought I saw a handful of them once, dark shadowy figures with bulbous heads and wispy builds. Maybe I was mistaken.

i have my own theory:
doppelganger are ur exact double. they are as we call our shadow we can never see them because they are always exactly behind us. they are invisible to us anyway but animals like dogs or cats can see them at times.
most dopplegangers are loyal to you but if you have a mischeviuos doppleganger it can get you in to trouble where friends and family say they saw you somewhere but you werent eevn near the place. some old ppl have been witnised talking to their doppleganger.

There is actually a different term for that. I forget what it is off hand, but it's said that some spirits visit people they care about just before moving on to wherever it is they go. It's said to be near instantaneous to the time of death, and only happens that once.

LilaMalvae Not being rude, correcting some of the spelling errors in this thread. I'm OCD about it, so just bear with me, okay? Starting now: Schitzophrenia, original, permitted, subconscious, conscious I'm a writer and I always cringe when I see a word that is obviously mispelled. This is not to say that I don't make my own errors, however. Anyway, on topic now. Doppelgangers are the psychological or supernatural double of a person or creature. first off i would like to point out that the mind produces electrical currents through out the body. a disrubtion in these currents can cause alot of misshaps and many things can cause this such as electrical shock, tramatizaion (sorry, i dont think that's a word xD), evan a bad experiance with the other side can do this.
With dopplegangers, there is a whole scientific and medical side to it, but there is also the paranormal side to it, that fills in the holes of science and medicien.
but then again...dopplegangers are a new subject to me and i havent developed any theroies on them yet. but once i've done more research and get somethings on paper...i'll post again and see what you all think.

The doppelgängers of folklore cast no shadow, and have no reflection in a mirror or in water. They are supposed to provide advice to the person they shadow, but this advice can be misleading or malicious. They can also, in rare instances, plant ideas in their victim's mind or appear before friends and relatives, causing confusion. In many cases once someone has viewed his own doppelgänger he is doomed to be haunted by images of his ghostly counter-part. Other folklore says that when a person's doppelgänger is seen, the person him/herself will die shortly. It is considered unlucky to try to communicate with such a doppelgänger. The concept of an 'evil double' is prevalant in ancient Greece, Rome, and even prior in early preJudaic history.

My mind splits pretty often actualy, but mostly into three, two in an argument and me in the middle trying to shut them up.

XD Nifty thing is, I've actually seen a Doppelgaenger before; back when I was 13, my class was on a trip to London. We were all in a bus, looking out the window, when I spotted someone standing near a telephone booth - the figure caught my eye cause they were wearing the same kinda jacket and had the same colour hair as my friend Katherine. We stopped at a red light, and someone behind me said "Look, that looks like Katherine!". The person outside turned around as we were driving away, and she was the /spitting image/ of said Katherine. Katherine herself didn't see it though, and she's still alive. It could just be put down to Expectation, though.

Doppelgangers, in my experience are, A) a demon with intent to kill whoever it's mimicing, B) a "shadow" of the person, usually a manifestation of all the evil in said person distilled to a pure form; not only making an "evil twin", but also removing the evil from the person, and if it is destroyed that person would be righteous to a nearly mythical degree, or C) a recorded normal phenomenon that can pretty much be explained by the fact that, with so many humans running around, there's gonna be a few that are genetically clones of eachother, and damn well look it too. Apparently my appearance is a common one, as I know no fewer than seven of the third kind of doppelganger that look like me....
