How come the hubbles doesn't like sushi? He doesn't like the taste/texture or the whole "raw fish" thing is gross? *grins*

He doesn't like cooked fish either. Tastes too "fishy" for him. He loves the ocean and all, and has 3 salt-water tanks, but the seaweed wrap is very similar to seaweed strips he used to feed his fish. I keep telling him raw fish doesn't taste as fishy as cooked fish, and like my friend who got me to love sushi who hates cooked fish yet loves sushi, but I can't seem to convince him. I've gotten him to take a small nibble once or twice, but I suppose a nibble isn't enough to get him to go "OMG that's my favorite thing EVER! I MUST HAVE MORE!" He tends to like really flavorful stuff anyway (like General Tso's Chicken.) wink

Is the Dragon Roll spicy? It looks good, but I just have a sinking feeling that it's spicy, so haven't tried it yet.

The Dragon Roll is not spicy at the place I usually get it from. It's named because of the look of the roll when it's put together I believe. Shrimp tempura inside and thin wide slices of avacado on the outsid of the rice which make it look sort of like scales. Nothing spicy in it.

I love sushi! In fact, if I had flown to Jaz's wedding, we would have tried to go out for sushi together! heart

we're still gonna get to eat sushi together somehow! I'll figure it out heart heart heart

Manatee Mac

Wasabi is really really good if you stir some soy sauce into it and turn it from a paste to a sort of thin sauce consistency.

that's how I do mine too! I put the wasabi in the little bowl and add a little soy to make it a paste then add the soy. It makes the wasabi mix better. If i add wasabi to the soy (which I used to do until I found this technique thru trial and error) I get a little bit of wasabi flavour but end up with some chunks of wasabi in the soy so it's not as even a taste.

altho...according to sushi purists you should NEVER mix the wasabi with soy sauce.

fawN, do you eat the nigiri with chopsticks?
i can pick it up with them but i can't grip it so i can bite it, and that's far too big a size to put in your mouth in one go sweatdrop

I grab nigiri in the middle with my chopsticks if it's well made it holds together ...but usually I just eat with my hands. and I almost always eat all my sushi in one bite cuz when kevin and I first went to a sushi restaurant (our first date) he told me they were meant to be bite size. As a matter of fact this webiste www.eatsushi.com says that nicer sushi places in japan don't even give you shopsticks...it's meant to be eaten with your hands.

And I didn't know that the rolls were called maki sushi. So thanks for educating me!

My favorite sushis are:

tuna, salmon, whitefish nigiri
tuna, salmon sashimi
spicy tuna rolls, philadelphia rolls, a roll called birmingham roll (which is spicy tuna, avocado, green onion maki) caterpiller rolls, volcano roll, and a roll i had at benihana called "las vegas roll" which was a salmon and cream cheese tempura with jalapeno and a spicy sauce. YUM!

Pretty much if it's tuna, salmon or whitefish I'll eat it lol

I don't like Sushi.

Ok, I have to share my adventures with sushi today!

We spur of the moment decided to go to a Japanese restaurant and Jade invited Jenni and Ella to come too, so my sis and I split a Nigiri Combo plate. Only.. the sushi took so long to be made that it wasn't ready until after Jenni had to leave for an appointment, so I cut everything in half, boxed it up, and put Jenni's half in her fridge on our way home. So I didn't get to share in her comments on everything, but here's what I thought.

I really need to look up pictures to try to identify what all I ate, but I think the odd looking ones were Octopus and Squid, which didn't really have a flavor, but were most notable by texture. The shrimp just tasted like shrimp; I couldn't even tell it wasn't cooked, and the white fish and salmon were normal, nothing outstandingly good or bad. There were one or two others that tasted kind of barbecued, or maybe it was just the one with some sauce on it that happened to get on the other one.. One I could tell was trout because I remember the fishy flavor from trout fishing as a child, and I would say that was my least favorite. My very favorite, though, was the tuna, which actually had a nice delicate sweet flavor to it.

Oh, but some of these pieces had so much wasabi inbetween the fish and rice that it made my nostrils burn and my eyes water, and one even made my scalp hurt! And for my sauce, I tried the "pouring of soy sauce into the wasabi" instead of the other way around, but the pouring soy sauce didn't break up the chunk of wasabi, so it wound up exactly the same as if I'd put the wasabi in the soy sauce and then tried to mash it up with chopsticks.
