Kayde 8 To say it was easy to hear all this would be an understatement, though the sting of it was lessened. In truth, it had been slowly lessoning, the hurt he had been feeling becoming less and less important as the days went on, to be replaced almost completely by acceptance. He had never been against the idea of it. But that pride. That pride wouldn't let him go until Elias was able to show him how his attitude had been affecting everyone.
Kayde let none of that show on his face. Or at least he hoped he wasn't. The secret to his always being so relaxed on the outside was the fact he was so difficult to rile up in the first place. In fact, he found most negative feelings hard to control. He had little practice with them.
"I see," he finally said, taking back his arm and straightening back on the bed. "Filling it with furniture ourselves eases how I feel about it. At least it will feel like ours, than." He was trying extra hard to look at the positives.

Elka 9 "It technically is." Hearing him appear interested finally helped to fully calm Elka down. The lump left her throat and her heartbeat slowed down in her chest. She reached up to rub at her eyes with the heels of both hands, feeling how the skin came away wet with unshed tears. "He only wanted a single room for the times when he's here on business. He has a vacation house in another part of Matori. It's mostly for us. To help us," she couldn't help repeating, glancing back at him with an almost pleading look on her face, trying to drive that point home. "It's not to make you feel less of anything, Kayde. I swear."

Kayde 9 "I believe you. I always kind of did." Kayde ran a hand through his hair, again, remembering to smooth it down this time after he was done, than scratched at his chin. Fidgeting. It was awful to admit something like that, that he had never really disagreed with her in the first place but had been so cruel regardless. Pursing his lips a moment, he looked into her golden eyes before crossing the distance to be closer, until their legs were touching and he could easily reach up to wipe at her cheeks. She leaned into his hand like a feline, closing her eyes, so he left his hand there cupping one side of her face. "I am so sorry." It was hard to stop saying that. "Where is it?"

Elka 10 Maybe she shouldn't be forgiving him this quickly, but Elka didn't care. She missed his touch and his kind words, spoken in that light way he had of speaking. Always speaking like that. She could forgive him one slip-up after so many years. It wasn't like this was a common thing. In fact, it had been their first real fight. Oh, they had had disagreements in the past. All of them easily solved within minutes.
"It's not far," she answered, opening her eyes. "It's tucked away behind a cliff with a waterfall. We can go see it, soon. If you want."

Kayde 10 Giving a sweet smile, Kayde took back his hand, instead reaching out to take one of hers onto his lap, patting it affectionately as if she were a troubled child who needed a little soothing before bed. "I would like that. I admit, I am curious about it." He gave her hand one last pat before standing up from the bed. The door made a soft click when he closed it. "I could use some sleep right now, though. As I'm sure we all could, after this exhausting day. Or, rather, week."
