Kayde 8 "Ah huh," the Leaf answered, swirling the liquid about in his glass before putting it down on the hard surface he had used to bring the glasses and bottle outside. It was time to try a few of the other candy in front of him, followed up by some of the fruit. Kayde never considered himself as having a strong sweet tooth. He enjoyed his fair share of sweet things here and there. A fresh pastry from the bakery. His favorite hard candy he always kept stocked in the drawer. But it also wasn't something he actively went searching a lot. Sometimes he walked right past that bakery, despite all the tantalizing aromas that drifted out the open door at him.
Elka, on the other hand, she was weak to its call. Maybe it was the perks of growing up in a rich household that reduced her ability to resist the cravings. If she wanted it before, she could easily get it. Now she couldn't. And that only seemed to make it worse when she was presented with the opportunity.
"I think you're saying I don't treat you good enough." Returning the coy smile with one of his own, much less coy in nature.

Elka 9 Elka let out a gasp, the loudest and fakest she could muster up, placing one hand over her heart as if she would faint dead away. It achieved the intended affect, making Kayde laugh at her from across all the bowls of food. "Absolutely not! I would never say such a thing! The very audacity of you to even suggest it!" Than she, too, giggled, unable to keep up the façade for too long. They lapsed into silence, both of them sampling from the spread, enjoying the company.
Finally, after what must have been five minutes of quiet, she looked up, catching the Leaf in the process of dipping a piece of fruit on a fork into a sweet sauce by one of his feet. "Kayde. I really do want you to know how much I appreciate what you've done here. And....For everything else. Including luring me away from Zena," she added with a chuckle. "It really turned out wonderful in the end, despite the rough start."

Kayde 9 After the teasing, there was silence. A lot of silence. Some people might be uncomfortable in it, especially couples. Feeling like they need to converse and strengthen that bond all the time. Kayde and Elka? They had done that many years ago. Silence between them was comfortable. It wasn't the first time it had happened, nor would it be the last time. They could easily enjoy each other's company and not talk. Or touch. Just sit. Focus on their individual amusements. One of their favorites being sitting side by side on the three cushion couch, reading. The only sound of the pages turning.
He hadn't realized he'd been smiling to himself until she spoke up, again, dragging him away from his sweet thoughts of quiet afternoons in the house or on the beach. Doing nothing together. The smile only brightened as he heard the words she had decided were important to break it up. Such words of affection, enough to warm the coldest of hearts.
"You're welcome," he answered, rising up from his side of the blanket to his hands and knees, crawling over to her side and sitting down next to her, so close that their legs touched. He took her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing the backs of her fingers gently. "I wonder if I would have continued to travel as an acrobat, never settling enough in one place to make a connection with someone as I have you." He lowered their two hands to his lap, gently caressing her fingers with his thumb as he looked into the distance. "I am excited about the life we are starting here."

Elka 10 The feeling of love was strong in the air between them. She felt the breath catch in her throat as he took her hand in his, and than the feel of his lips so soft and gentle. So reflective of the man he was. No matter how many years would go by, he would always make her heart skip a beat. She squeezed his hand, placing her other over her swollen stomach. She wasn't sure if it was just the emotions of the moment and her feeling extra sensitive, but she thought she could feel the child moving about inside. Hopefully whoever they were could feel all the love that awaited them in the outside world. How much they were wanted.
Elka shifted her weight slightly, putting it all on one side so she could lean her shoulder against Kayde's, resting her cheek on him. She no longer felt like talking anymore, just sitting there in the moment, with the breeze off the ocean giving her nice chills when it reached her from around her husband's form.

Kayde 10 The sound of the ocean was the only sound for a longer while than the silence before, the waves crashing on a small cluster of rocks that were near the shore just down from where they sat. The breeze was getting colder, sending small chills down his spine through his thin shirt. Not enough to make him shiver. Just enough to make the moment here more enjoyable. But there was still one problem.
Clearing his throat quietly, the Leaf picked up a bowl of fruit, almost empty. "There's still some of this carefully prepared food left. Maybe we should finish it off and go in before it gets too cold."
