Rylan shook his head. "Remember her, and remember her sacrifice," he said. "But don't mourn. It won't do you any good, and it won't do her any good either." He sat, stroking Imp's head while the bird huddled in his lap and peered beadily out at the dreary world around them. "She didn't offer herself up as the tithe to be mourned, right?" he added. "She did it so we could get closer to freeing the Enemy, closer to defeating him." It was one of those questions of morality that didn't really have a right or wrong answer, but he knew what grief could do to people. He'd seen it happen with Marines who blamed themselves for their brothers' deaths. It never helped.

Tibbie buried her head in Nibbs' fur as she listened to Rylan speak - a face full of wet fur was still better than none when it came to comfort. What he said... it was true, Adoelle had offered herself up. And at the end - she didn't seem to have been looking for pity at all, she'd been a lady on a mission. And Rylan, he knew a lot more than her. Was older, wiser and kind too; maybe, if he said it was okay, it really was okay to let go of the guilt. Sitting up straight once again, she nodded. "I'll think about it," she said, because that was true and she definitely would. "I think maybe- maybe you're right." Getting closer to defeating the Enemy... there were so many things she didn't know about this new world of magic. "I'll try," she said finally, unsure but genuine. She'd try but she didn't know if it was really that easy.

"It's easier said than done," he conceded. "But yea. Try. That's about all any of us can do." More than once, he'd felt like they were all running around in circles chasing their own tails. They probably were still, pawns moved around as the otherworld patrons saw fit. But in the absence of time, in the absence of a source that he knew he could trust, the options seemed limited. "I'd tell you to keep your head down and keep your nose out of trouble, but... it seems like once you get tangled in this magic, there's no real pulling out," he said with a small smile. "Just be careful."

"I don't mind getting tangled in magic, it's all this other stuff that gets to me - but thank you for the advice," she returned his smile with a tired but genuine one of her own. She hadn't wanted to think about the bad feelings from the faerie ball today, but it had a way of coming back to take a bite out of her at the most inopportune moments. Like when one was off adventuring in another world; although before Rylan had come along it'd been more 'trudging along looking drenched and miserable' than actual adventure. Kicking her feet out, she contemplatively examined her boots for a moment before looking back to Rylan; "I think I'm ready to go on now, if, um, you are?" MoonRazor getting right for a wrap? <333

"They have a way of coming together, sort of like a terrible package deal," he agreed. Whether it was all worth it was another question entirely. "Yea, of course," he added, lifting Imp and placing the bird back onto his shoulder as he rose from the bus stop bench. He squinted out into the rain again, scanning left and right, until he saw a small road that caught his eye. "That might be a way out, over there."

She hummed in agreement before shifting Madam Nibbs off from her lap and onto the bus stop seat. The little battle-worn kitty gave a 'mrrp', but otherwise took the change easily enough - as Isobel stood up a moment later, the tortie jumped down to wind around her feet, ready to follow her human wherever she might go. "Okay," nodding, she eyed the little road - there didn't seem to be anything particularly special about it to her eyes, but she trusted Rylan's judgment. "But how do you know?" Tibbie asked curiously, head cocked to the side and still squinting at the road, trying to discern anything of note. "I just looks like any other road to me."

"I don't," he admitted with a sheepish shrug, blinking the water from his eyes as they emerged into the rain again. "But after some trial and error, you start to get hunches." He could be entirely wrong too, but today it seemed that wasn't the case. They turned down the road and wandered along until suddenly, the rain abated. Rylan glanced up at the sky and saw the comforting blue that said they were back in real Ashdown. "Got lucky this time," he said with a crooked smile. "You know your way home from here?"

Isobel breathed a sigh of relief at being back home again - or at least closer to home than she'd been in other Ashdown. "Yes, I think so," she replied after surveying their surroundings, noting the street signs nearby. "You too?"

"Yup, I'm that way," he answered, nodding in a general northerly direction. The sun was already warming his damp clothes, bringing comfort seeping back into his arms and legs. There was something about the damp and dreary nature of Other Ashdown that made him grateful every time he came back to the real world. "Take care, alright? Don't worry too much about what happened, if you can help it." He left her with another grin, hopefully reassuring, and turned north at the intersection, making his way back home.
