His eyes fluttered shut, a sigh of relief exhaled before he could stop it. He was exhausted, yes, but trying to fall asleep after such terrible dreams was not exactly an easy feat when all one could think about was those terrible, bloodied dreams.
But this way - maybe he could fall asleep and not be mired in blackness.
Caspian opened his mouth to say something - gratitude, perhaps - but the words did not come out. Instead, he heard Michael's voice, softer and gentler than usual, a lilting poem echoing in Caspian's ear. His eyes had opened at the first verse, his chest feeling strangely tight, but as Michael continued, they slowly fell shut again, simply listening to the lyrical sounding sentences.
They were lulling him further into a state of warm tiredness. Caspian's fingers loosened on the pillow he was holding, his other hand still holding the phone up, though that grasp too, had slackened. A wave of weariness swept over him.
Maybe, thought Caspian drowsily, only semi-conscious now, already half asleep. Maybe this is okay.
"I think," he mumbled, and his hand slipped away from the phone, falling in front of him. "that your voice will give me good dreams."
And just like that, Caspian slipped off into slumber once more.

It was a short poem to begin with, but hopefully it was just enough. He could barely hear what Caspian said at the end, although he could tell his voice was heavy with exhaustion. He felt strange, reciting poetry that he’d long forgotten that he’d memorized, especially to someone who hardly even knew him. Maybe one day Caspian would move on once he got enough guidance to hold his own as a senshi, but for now Michael was surprisingly okay with being his friend.
“Good night, Caspian,” he said softly still, listening for him to respond. When he didn’t, Michael lifted the phone away from his ear to end the call. He lowered the phone back down to his chest, eyes still on the plain ceiling.
Part of him wondered what the hell he was getting himself into, the voice in his head telling him there was still time to back out before he regretted getting too involved. Caspian was resourceful enough that he wouldn’t need Michael for very long, and then Michael would be back to the way things were before.
But wasn't that what he wanted? Or had that changed...
