When Aina tossed Tolstoy’s anthology to the side to snatch Aesop’s Fables again, Johan simply let her do so, and the book floated at her side plain as day. There wasn’t any need to tempt fate by lurching forward for the book, and knocking both himself and Aina into a book cabinet wasn’t on his schedule of things to do. He’d hoped the Frei knew better than to throw things into the air without warning, but that was also a talk for another time.
Johan smiled tentatively at Oliver, leaving Aina be to her reading and grabbing Tolstoy’s book from the air. He was about ready to leave for the register when Oliver poised his question, and Johan raised his brows. “My niece,” he started, unsure of just how to explain the occurrence; his understanding of his niece’s magic was shaky at best. “She has a certain knack for magic,” Johan began, holding up Aina just a tad higher, “That she won’t use on anymore of your books.”
“Hm?” Aina glanced up, blinking; when she caught wind of the situation, she giggled, sheepishly hiding her grin behind her book. “I’m sorry, Mr. Bookstore Person.”

Oliver took a breath and relaxed. Oh, so it was Aina making the books float? That raised some more questions, but seeing as how Johan seemed to be leaning for the register, he'd save them for some other time. He didn't want to take up more of their time with his, likely, boring questions.
"It's quite alright! I was just surprised, that's all." He laughed, before smiling. "Now, let's see about ringing those up for you at the front."
He lead them back through the isles again and to the register. It took him a moment to remember how it worked, to his embarrassment, but hopefully Johan and Aina didn't notice that.
"Would you like a bag for these, or are you alright without one?" He asked, his fingers fiddling about with the worn out keys on the register. Maybe it was time that Arthur upgraded to a more modern cash register. It was difficult to read some of the numbers on this one.Rookeries I'm sorry it took me so long to reply! Oliver's muse decided to take a vacation without letting me know.

Johan knelt down to let Aina gently onto the ground, where she floated on her own in content with two books in her arms. They were longer than most of the books she’d read so far, even if it wasn’t by much; she smiled appreciatively when Oliver accepted her apology, wings fluttering curiously. She remained quiet, but she had a lot to wonder about this stranger; if he worked with books, a part of Aina believed in him a lot already.
She also beamed a little at his small bit of surprise. She felt a little bit like Uncle Damien, with all of his new magic tricks, and quietly wondered if she could surprise Mister Bookstore Person just a little more. She glanced up at Johan, smiling, mischief begetting responsibility a bit.
On a cold and comfortable January like this, Aina’s floating height rested just above the counter, and she as able to rest the books on the countertop confidently - and proudly, to say the least, in being able to stand even slightly taller in a room with two giants. Aina watched as Oliver worked with an ancient-looking type of machine, and Johan reached into his coat pocket for his wallet.
“No bag, please,” Johan replied. Aina, meanwhile, had other things on her mind. The Frei pointed at the antiquated cash register, leaning forward a bit for emphasis.
“Um,” she interrupted, “what’s that?”

"What's what?" Oliver asked, his gaze quickly rising and fluttering about. It took him a moment, but once he understood, the blond couldn't help but laugh at himself.
"Ah, the register!" He exclaimed, a blush rising to his cheeks. "This is what we keep money in at the store. It also provides customers with change for their purchases and gives them a receipt."
He paused, his brows knitting and flexing as he finally found the keys he was looking for, and sighed with relief.
"This one has seen quite a few years, however." He continued, giving the register a gentle pat. "It may be time to turn it in for a new model... But, that's not for me to decide. I don't think the owner is willing to part with it just yet."
He gathered the books together, Aesop’s Fables on top, and moved them to the front of the counter while he read the total.
"And, I do believe your total comes to... 30,000 gold." He said, looking up to Johan. "Uh... Would that be gold or credit? ... Wait, does this thing even have a card scanner?"
He looked the register over and shook his head in disbelief. Yeah, he knew what he was buying Arthur for Christmas now.

Aina’s wings fluttered as Oliver explained, her arms crossed over the countertop while she watched Oliver fiddled with the cash register. She giggled a bit, and Johan found himself staring awkwardly in turn as Oliver worked the cash register. He let out a small breath in amusement as he reached for a few bills before Oliver could come to his own conclusion.
“It’s fine. I’ll pay in cash,” Johan replied, offering Oliver exact change; “How long has this shop been around?”
“An’ what’s a receipt?” Aina asked, a bit belatedly, while she tilted her head and slowly began working her magic on the register; it didn’t begin floating just yet.Bouquet of Diamonds Just curious, would Oliver have seen Raevans/known of Lab by this point? Just ‘cause he’s been around Lab functions and stuff~

"Oh gosh." Oliver said, glancing up to the ceiling as he thought. "I'd need to ask the owner for the exact number, but I've been coming here since I was six years old, and the owner himself is turning ninety two this year... This store could easy be eighty years old or more."
He took the money from Johan and gave the side of the register a tap so that the cash drawer would open. It had gotten stuck on him a few times today already, only adding to a growing list of complaints he had with it. Once he'd tucked the money safely into the drawer, he waited for it to start printing the receipt. However, instead, the register began making a strange noise.
"Uh oh, sounds like a paper jam." He sighed, leaning under the counter to grab a receipt sheet and a pen. "I'll just write one for you here and sign it, just in case."
He started to write everything out and glanced up to Aina as she spoke.
"A receipt is basically a piece of paper that shows proof that you bought something." He explained, clicking the pen when he was finished writing. "It helps to have them if you ever need to return something you bought if you didn't like it or if it breaks. People often ask for them when they buy gifts for people, too, in case the person they're giving to wants to return the item or exchange it for something else." Rookeries Yes! He'd know about Raevans and of Lab at this point. The only thing he'd not know about are a Raevan's powers. (Hence why he's so amazed with what Aina can do; He's only ever seen a Raevan hover)

“Eighty years,” Johan mirrored, raising his brows - in Gaian standards, this was an ancient bookstore. He cast a glance down at Aina to see if she was impressed, but she seemed unfazed by it. It wasn’t too surprising; for someone like her, who was so young, eighty years must have been fairly incomprehensible.
(Johan was unaware that Aina was simply concentrating on staring down the cash register, focusing her amateur magic, not listening to neither her uncle nor Oliver much at all. She had a very big magic trick in mind.
And, of course, she thought her question was a great distractor.)
“That’s fine,” Johan replied, taking the pen from Oliver and leaning forward to sign the receipt, only to be interrupted by a tap to his shoulder. “Hm?” he asked, glancing back down at the Frei next to him.
“Nonc, I wanna sign,” she whispered between Oliver’s explanation. With an amused scoff, Johan handed her the pen, and she hopped up to look at the receipt more carefully. She didn’t know which one to sign, so she began writing on both. She nodded along to Mr. Bookstore Person’s explanation, humming to the sound of his voice, then happily pushed both receipts back to him.
“All done!” she piped up, beaming. “There’s your receipts!”
“Ah-- sorry.” Johan glanced at the receipts, taking the customer copy into his hands - it was clear that Aina wasn’t listening to Oliver at all, but such was life. He’d wondered if Aina had a signature to begin with, and it was explained away by the curly-q version of his name Aina had put there instead. Clearly, she’d done this for someone before.
With a careful smile, Johan took a step back from the register, his bag of books in tow. “I hope you can get the cash register replaced. Have a good day,” he said, giving the man a simple wave in farewell.
Aina waved, too, humming. As they walked away, her magic began to work - the cash register, slowly at first, began to teeter away and rise from the surface of the counter.

Oliver stifled a laugh as Aina signed both receipts and looked to the register again as it made another series of noises. He wondered if Arthur would be willing to let this thing go. It was probably something very near and dear to him if he kept it for so long. He couldn't imagine the other gentleman being patient with it for any other reason. The blond gave it a gentle tap and smiled.
"No trouble at all, I hope you enjoy the books!" He cheered, waving in return. "It was lovely to meet you, take care n-"
His voice cut off as the register, which his hand was still resting on, began to move slightly. He leaned back and bent his knees, just to see if he was right, and gasped. Why was the register floating? He grabbed onto it, in hopes he could simply shove it back down, and looked back to Johan and Aina.
"Uhm," He laughed, looking down to make sure that the register was still, indeed, floating. "I'm sorry to keep you for a little longer, but I don't think a floating register will be of much use to me, even if this one is well on it's way out. Would you mind undoing your magic trick, miss?"

Aina descended into a fit of giggles before Johan could even turn around to witness her little magic trick. "Magic trick!" she exclaimed, raising her hands up, and Johan turned back around with her with a muted frown. When Aina could only continue laughing, he leaned forward to look at the Frei.
"Aina. It's lucky that the cashier was nice enough to let this slide, but you can't use your magic like this on anyone's things without permission. It could scare them." The Frei's laughter died down, but she continued smiling as proud as ever. "Were you going to leave it like that?"
"It's just a little magic trick. Ta-da!" Aina smiled; by this time, she knew full well that her uncle's sternness shouldn't dampen her mood. She floated back to the cash register, hands on the counter as she looked up at her handiwork - by this time, the register was close to the ceiling. "But if it's like this you can keep it like a balloon!"
The situation wasn't dire, and Johan took a moment to sigh, quietly, as he stared up at the cash register and processed it all. Magic trick. He knew where he heard those words from before in relation to the child.

Oliver, as flustered as he was, couldn't help but laugh along. It was an amusing trick, something he'd never expected in a million years, but it wasn't something he greatly appreciated. Antique things like that register were very breakable, and considering that it was already somewhat broken, he didn't fancy it falling and smashing to pieces.
"Well, while it would make an interesting and lovely balloon," He began, raising an arm and frowning at just how high it had gone. "I would appreciate if it could find it's way back down to the counter now, please. I don't want it to fall and break."

Aina's immediate response at Oliver's request was to pout. When she looked up at Johan, and all he did was raise his brows expectantly back down at her, she let out an exaggerated little sigh. "Okay," she replied, gloomily, though it was quickly broken up by a delighted giggle.
Aina waved at the cash register, as if to give it a greeting of its own, and the ancient thing of a machine floated gently back down onto the counter. To Johan's pleasant surprise, there were no disasters of rumor that happened this time, where cash or metal bent and broke to fragments upon impact like brittle powder.
Well. Thank God.
"Thank you, Aina," Johan said, glancing back at the Frei. "What do we say?"
"Surprise!" she splayed her hands out again, almost knowing the bag of books out of her uncle's hand. Politely folding her hands back together, she bowed her hands some. "Sorry."
"There we are. Thank you, sir. I never caught a name," Johan added, smiling patiently at Oliver.Bouquet of Diamonds I think we're only a few posts away from finishing, unless there's anything you'd like to touch upon! Thank you so much for RPing with me, it was so much fun.

Oliver watched, albeit nervously, as the register drifted back down to counter and settled without a hitch. He took a moment to assess it and make sure the drawer hadn't come unhinged during the trip upward and let out a relived sigh when everything seemed to be fine. It certainly wasn't every day you saw something float up off the ground like that, espescially when that something was supposed to stay grounded to begin with. The whole "trick" made him as anxious as he was amused.
"Surprise indeed, but thank you for placing the register back where it belongs!" He cheered, laughing. "It's really no trouble, though, just be more mindful of what you're playing with next time. A lot of things in this store are old and can easily break. It would be be very difficult to replace some of them, too, because of their age."
Then, he blushed. Had he really forgotten to introduce himself? He clearly wasn't with it today!
"Oh, I'm sorry! My name is Oliver!" He replied, grinning and motioning to them. "What can I call you?" Rookeries Sounds good to me! I had a lot of fun rping with you, too! Let me know if you want to start another rp when Laurel is born! 8D

"Okay, Mister Bookstore Person," Aina replied, nodding diligently to his advice. There was a trace of a smile remaining on her features; the lesson was learned, but she couldn't quite shake the feeling of having done something magical today. Never in her life was she able to float something back down in one complete piece.
Maybe, she thought, she should float cash registers more often! But first, she had to ask.
"Oliver, nice meeting you," Johan held out his hand, "My name is Johan. Have a good day, sir."
As they left, Aina waved back at Oliver, smiling. "Bye bye, Mr. Oliver! Thank you for the books!"Bouquet of Diamonds I'm so glad! And of course, anytime! We can finish it here or on your next post, up to you. :^)

"It was lovely meeting you too, Johan!" Oliver replied, waving back to Aina. "You're very welcome, I hope you enjoy them! Have a good day and come again!"
He smiled as they left and only turned back to the register with a worried expression when they were out of his sight. This experience had brought up a whole new host of questions for him about Raevans. Did they all have abilities like that? He stepped back from the counter and grasped his chin pensively.
"I'd better write this down for the next Lab meet up. I'll want to ask someone about this." He said, nodding to himself and turning for the office behind him. "... For now, though, I should ask Arthur about replacing this register. It's time this shop had a bit of modernization." Rookeries Awesome! We're good here if you want to FIN the title! 8D
