Phoenix cocked his head as he considered Anya's words, wondering just how expansive the list of possibilities was for feeding methods, too. He imagined it would depend entirely on the combination. How would this one feed, some day, when it could?
He listened intently to Zeke's explanation once more, taking the business card from him with a nod. "I'll probably come by in person," he said with a smile. He thought about taking Zoe with him. She'd like that.
It was that thought that drew Phoenix's eyes to his watch, followed by a quiet 'damn'. "Can I give you a call if I have more questions?" He laughed suddenly. "Yeah, if." He knew he would, but it had occurred to him suddenly how late it was. Zoe would definitely be sleeping, but he knew the sitter would be wondering what was keeping him so late, and if Zoe did wake up she was sure to notice his absence and call to voice her discontent.
"It's my little girl," he explained, a sort of soft warmth spreading over his features as he did so. Nothing was clear if not that the man had more love in his heart for that child than there was room for. "I probably should have called to say I'd be late," he added sheepishly.

"You sure can!" He didn't entirely fall short of pulling out his phone and giving it a wiggle to confirm that yes he, like everyone else nowadays, had a cellphone. Instead he blew past the idea and went back to digging inside the case, pulling out a manila folder and setting it on the table. From there, he pulled out a stapled sheet of names, addresses, and numbers, pushing it across the table to Phoenix while also tapping on the highlighted digits at the top.
"Here's a list of all of the Guardians, their Raevans, and their individual contact information. The highlighted ones here are all Lab staff members." He pointed to his own contact info, tapping each of the three listed phone numbers in turn. "Home, cell, and my nine-to-five, including my extension there. Cell is the best way to reach me out of all of them, but if you don't wanna chat over the phone I also check my email daily!"
"It's true, he does." While she couldn't say Zeke was addicted to his phone or his computer, she had seen how regularly he kept up with his emails, social networks, and that ilk.
"Oh jeez, I'm sorry to have kept you so late!" Phoenix's application had said he had a child too! "Here, just one last thing then. Since Anya and I are here I'll just have you sign this first set of paperwork so that I can get that squared away at the Lab." From the same folder he pulled out a two-sheet stapled set of papers and a pen. "There's another set inside this folder that you'll have to have signed before you return your bottle, but for now this one is the more important. Basically it states that you understand what you're undertaking as a Guardian, that you promise to take care of the provided items and return them as soon as possible, and so on and so forth."
Like the contact sheet he tapped several places, however these would need the new Guardian's signature and the date.
"Once you have that signed, Anya and I will be outta your hair!"

Phoenix looked over the contact pages while Zeke pointed out the important numbers. With all the Guardians listed, it was similar to the page of phone numbers for Zoe's classmates. Since she rarely wanted much to do with the other students, the list had been all but completely covered by drawings and magnets on the refrigerator door. Phoenix had a feeling this list would see quite a bit more use, at the very least when Phoenix inevitably came up with a hundred more questions.
"We'll probably be in contact very soon," he said, smiling. "You can probably expect a phone call!" Whenever possible, Phoenix preferred the actual conversation and instant response of a phone call. E-mail was something he tried to avoid if he could. The fact that Zeke provided three separate numbers was immensely comforting to Phoenix, who knew there was quite a lot of interesting times coming just around the corner.
As Zeke provided the forms for him to sign, Phoenix immediately began signing each line with a flourish. With each name and date he felt his heart racing a little faster. This was finally it. How long had Zoe been begging him for a little brother or sister? With every signature he was closer to fulfilling her dream, a dream that had since become his as well. He realized as he finished the last date that he'd wanted this more than he realized.
Clearing his throat, Phoenix stood up abruptly. "I'll be right back, I'm just going to get something from the back, he said quickly, his attempt to cover up the fact that tears were welling again failing miserably as his voice cracked slightly.
He hurried back to the kitchen, alarming the dishwasher with his sudden entrance. "Do we have any kalitsounia left?" Phoenix asked him urgently, clearing his throat a second time and blinking away the tears in his golden eyes. The man pointed to a tray of sweets that hadn't yet been put away. Pulling on a glove, Phoenix began to load several of the sweet cheese pastries into a bag.
After topping off the bag with an assortment of what was left, Phoenix tossed the glove and returned to his guests, having regained his composure. He presented them with the treats. "It's what we had left at the end of the day, so I'm afraid they won't be as fresh as if you'd come this morning. But please, take these with you. It's the least I can do." He said all of this quite fast, his voice wavering as if it threatened to break once more.

"Works for me!" He was all smiles, turning it again on Anastacia as the widow watched the other man sign away on the paperwork Zeke provided. She caught his eye and raised a brow at him before shaking her head at his boyish excitement with the proceedings. Zeke was Zeke, and that was especially inevitable in these circumstances.
"Oh! Sure!" The vet and the Widow both blinked in surprise at the other man's abrupt rise and dash away from the table, looking at each other and shrugging at the same time. That reduced the vet to chuckles which continued as he pulled the paperwork over to himself to peruse while Phoenix was gone. Anya watched over his shoulder. It all looked like overly complicated jargon to her.
"Everything in order?"
"Looks like it! I just need to add my name..." He took up the pen and did just that, his name a scribble with a big E, N, and F with everything else in between those three tiny and barely legible. "And voila! All set when he is!"
"Is he okay? I mean...That was really sudden of him, don't you think?"
The vet shook his head just a little.
"I'm sure he's fine; he just needs a minute." He winked at his ward to quell her concern, to which she relaxed a little.
Humans continued to prove that they were very odd people, be it by themselves or in relation to others.
"If you say so," she was still a little dubious, but if Zeke was sure...
But like that, Phoenix was striding out of the back of the house and returned to the table where he presented them with a bag and some noticeably creaky words.
"Oh!" Zeke sat up and took the present with a surprised look and a shake of his head, laughing anew. "You really didn't have to do this, Phoenix! Thank you!" He showed the bag to Anya who nodded to affirm she saw what they had been given before setting it down to stand and offer his hand to the man.
"Seriously, thank you. You're very kind and I'm sure whatever is in there is delicious!" He patted the man's arm before gesturing to the papers he had pulled back over to his side of the table. "Your paperwork this round is all set - you didn't miss a line! I've signed it so it's official now; those two are all yours my friend!"
Anya could sense that the meeting was coming to an end. She 'stood' as well but kept her hands clasped together, nodding politely at the Greek man whose eyes were looking more and more wet by the moment. If he started going, Zeke was sure to follow, and then where would she be? Stuck in a dining room with two sappy, happy sops.
Not exactly the best scenario, especially when one of the two apparently had a child to get home to.
Anya cleared her throat.
"Ah, Zeke?"
"Oh right! Hah! So I would be asking if you had anymore questions for us but since you have to get home to your little one, I think we can let that go for right now!" He gestured to the phone list again. "If anything crops up you do have my number!" He did sound as if he hated to cut things short. Anya knew answering questions was one of his favorite things, probably edging out actually asking them for him on a list of things he enjoyed doing.
"I'm sure he will, Zeke. You've given him a million ways to contact you and you're second on the list of who to call." She wasn't yet tired nor sounding it, but the way she spoke was clearly trying to wiggle the man away from the other. If left unattended he was sure to make them all linger, albeit unintentionally. Sure it would give her more time with Phoenix's pretty Essence but some things just had to be let go. "Besides, you'll see him again. He already said he'll drop off his Essence and Glass in person."
She raised a brow at him, coaxing the figurative prybar further inbetween. He looked at her for a moment before giving a sigh that was heaved with a touch of drama, nodding with the barest of pouts.
"Alright, alright." He chuckled and his smile returned. "The lady speaks true. We'll get outta your hair so you can get outta here yourself! Thank you for the gift and if anything at all comes up, I'm always available whenever you--"
"Zeke."
"Need someone to talk to." Another sigh as he finished his sentence, lofting his pierced brows at Anya who did the same back to him.
He stuck his tongue out at her, stud shining in the overhead light.
"It was nice to meet you, Phoenix." She ignored the childish display in favor of looking at Phoenix and giving another bob of her head. "Thank you for your hospitality, and congratulations again."
She did not risk lingering and with that sentiment passed began to float toward the door. Zeke had the keys and she was sure he had locked the car's doors but if she was moving, he was sure to follow.
"Ah...Yeah, what she said." He was so very amused by all of this, but now that she was taking the lead, he had to follow. He picked up the bag, the paperwork, and pushed in his chair, giving Phoenix a wave just before he headed out into the evening and the cold. "Congratulations, thank you, and see you soon!!!"
