"Sorceresses and Kings are everywhere in every timeline, but Earth being the ignition point of tensions always seems to be a universal constant," She said with a nod. But that was a tiny bit of bias rooting its way through her mind. The cold war tensions of the Black Moon's universe were hardly Earth's fault at their core, because nothing was ever that simple, but Tyndareus' choices as the Moon's King were usually regarded in Zirconia's viewpoint as infallible and unfortunately that was the only point of view her memories allowed.

"The war with Chaos is a constant and unending one, but its individual manifestations each have their own unique stages set. The existential alignment of the universe isn't really my problem," She said with a shrug. Serpentine's accusation of being on her own side and no one else's occasionally found its truth when she forgot her manners.

"I met a Negaverser who accused the Moon Queen of invading, and credited her with the invention of youma, but that doesn't seem like a thing that uh... It doesn't really add up, I guess."

She paused and tapped one fingertip against the stone surface of the pendent she'd been fiddling with. "Is it creepy to you, too?" She asked like it was a question she needed pause for, or time to build up words. "To just... remember all these societies and life and waking up one day and seeing a dead universe?"

Menachem frowned, displeased that events could have become so horribly twisted in a thousand years. "He is misinformed," he said. Chaos had a way with twisting matters, but for someone to believe such outright and nonsensical slander indicated an amount of blind acceptance that made his stomach turn. "Misinformed and indoctrinated. Beryl was the aggressor, and Chaos is a persuasive master. It takes all of a person's negative aspects and magnifies them: Her jealousy became obsession. Her selfishness became cruelty. But she was beautiful and she was powerful and the rebellion followed her."

"The moon queen did not invent youma," he continued, a deep crease forming between his brows. "They were Beryl's invention, but Chaos has always taken monstrous forms. They were among the chaos magic we experimented with on ancient Mercury. There are great monsters that roam the depths of space, that have roamed the depths of space since time immaterial - that is what the Zodiac fought. Youma are a specific category, but to think that the concept new, that there were no chaos monsters before - that is naïveté. Youma are a force of nature. This Negaverser, he fights a war he does not even understand."

It was true, yes, that youma lived within the rift, and that the rift had been the Academy once, but... He sighed heavily. "This battle was Beryl's doing. The fall of the Moon Kingdom was Beryl's doing. The Moon Kingdom was not perfect, but... It was not the aggressor. Beryl was a girl in the throes of unrequited infatuation. She decided that if she could not have Endymion, no one would, and she would rend heaven and earth to ensure that."

His throat felt dry. He took a long time to consider her next question. "Creepy?" he asked. It was not a word he could quite define, but context told him what he needed to know.

"I stood my vigil on that mountainside for a thousand years," said Menachem. "I did not wake up one day to see a dead universe. I watched it die."

“There’s word Beryl is gone now,” Zia said with a weird amount of caution in her tone. She wasn’t sure if it was true, given the sources, or if gone meant gone away or dead, but she figured it was worth mentioning in light of the subject matter.

She just nodded her head, tracing the lines carved in her pendent rather than maintaining eye contact with Menachem. She knew of alternate Chaos monsters and had been laughed at by generals when she questioned the pedigree of abnormal youma, or asked questions about the Rift. The particular brand of conversation with someone who had grown up with that ancient knowledge, and with the structure of an old universe under a living Moon Queen had a myriad of strange feelings attached to it. Mostly positive, and if circumstances were different she might’ve sought some sort of camaraderie with Menachem.

He understood things that had been lost to time. Even the smallest phrases he said in passing had a weird, validating comfort to her.

“Right,” She said in a low whisper when he reminded her that his vigil had been an unceasing watch in the wake of war and after. “I’m sorry.”

Unfortunately, with circumstances as they were, she ended the conversation there. She put her necklace back where it belonged on her neck, covering her Blood Moon Court branding, and sat up straight with squared shoulders and a forced look on her face attempting petulance as she made her request, “I would like Finn back now, please.”

She was probably more paranoid and overprotective of Finn’s role as host body than he was, and without any rational reason other than her own paranoia over the way things had turned out for the parallels.

“And... Thank you for answering my questions.”

"Of course she is," said Menachem, taking no surprise at the changing of the guard. Chaos's figurehead may have been gone, but Chaos would endure. But this conversation was over by Zia's indication, and he'd worn Finn's face for long enough.

"You seem like a good friend to him," he said, preparing to shift control back to his descendant. "I am glad he has good counsel. It is important."

His eyes drifted shut. Finn opened them slowly, his posture relaxing. He felt heavy. Drowsy. The glow faded from his eyes. Rubbing them, he asked, "Did you have a good chat? Learn some good stuff?"

Despite feeling like he'd just woken up, he was exhausted. "I should get home and go to bed," Finn added. "I'm sorry. I'm such a lame date."

Zia's expression broke into concern when Finn resumed control, and his words weren't what she expected. She had a baseline of assumptions for the situation, and whenever he strayed from them her heart skipped a beat.

"I... you weren't watching?" She asked, and then acted like she had to shake off a stupid question.

"N-... Nevermind. Yeah, go get some rest. Do you need a ride home?"

Finn shook his head. The last thing he remembered was closing his eyes, the world sliding sideways, and then- this. "No, he can see everything I see, but I-" He hesitated, and made a shaky gesture with his hand. "I go away."

He shrugged - it didn't seem like a big deal, just a quirk of the magic. "If you gave me a ride home, you would be my lord and savior."

I am going to call this a wrap.
