Prince Reddy [StoneColdCrazy] Prince Reddy "Ah. Papà says they don't use wands where is is from, so we went to Ollivander's. Mamma says he is the best in all of England and he says this one is some of his best work!" She beamed proudly at having such a fine wand. Her father had said it was a silly frivolous thing and showed her how to cast a few spells without one, but Ollivander had explained that magic came easier with a wand and would be easier to focus when she told him so. "Show me what you know, Pepe and I will show you a bit as well!" Pierre felt nervous again. Whatever pride had filled him while looking at his wand and speaking of Paris had left him. This girl was not from England and wouldn't be in awe of his foreign wand. Her own wand was foreign to her! Not to mention she called him his mother's pet name for him. It was embarrassing! "Uhh, my pepere taught me a fun one this summer." Pierre got up and stood back, he aimed his wand at the sweets that had been left on the seat next to Vittoria. "Lévitez!" it was simple enough, the sweets lifted into the air and hovered for a bit. Pierre waved his wand toward the opposite side of the compartment and the sweets flew into the wall with a clatter. "I suppose I've got to watch how hard I toss things," he gave a nervous laugh and looked expectantly at Vittoria. With a swish and a flick and a muttered word Vittoria made the candy float off the floor where it landed and returned it to the pile of sweets, cracked but still edible. "A good one, and very useful for cleaning your room if only they would let you practice at home," she frowned a bit. "Mamma says they do not mind too much before your first year because you don't know any better, but after that it is strictly forbidden. The holidays will be torture!" The girl looked truly distressed at the thought of not being able to practice magic during breaks, but she quickly shook it off and returned to smiling. She picked up the broken candy from the pile. "Watch this one! Riparazione!" She tapped the candy gently twice and the crack sealed itself as though the candy had never shattered against the wall at all. Pierre was impressed at the ease in which his new acquaintance did her spells. It was like watching his parents, or his father's coworkers, albeit smaller. He was mildly put out that he wasn't impressing this new person. "I've seen my parents do that one plenty of times. I didn't realize there could be so many words for one spell. Father says 'reparo' and my mother says 'reparez'." He thought for a moment about her not being able to practice magic on holidays and considered her. "Do you live by the British Ministry? My father works there and he says if you're 'in a close enough proximity to an of age wizard they can't pinpoint the magic'" he repeated his fathers words, not sounding nearly as knowledgeable as his elder. "Mama says it's a way to keep tabs on muggle born children, so they don't reveal the wizarding world. They just tell us all we can't because it would single out muggle born families." Suddenly he felt very bad and sat down again. "I never actually thought about it before. I live in the country, so there aren't many muggles around, but if I did magic in the city I'm sure they would have something to say? They can't really pick on those kids, can they?"

"The words don't matter so much as the intention. They play a part, sure, but they aren't the meat of the spell. I've been trying to pick that one apart for ages, but there are many layers to any spell and mending is not as easy as others." She considered his words for a moment. "My mother's parents are mondano, so perhaps that is why she thinks i will not be allowed to practice at home. My father's family is as magic as they come, but he never went to a school. He says children play with magic at all ages. He thinks many things about English magical customs are nonsense. And we live in Italia in the country, so maybe the rules don't apply?" Her voice sounded hopeful.

Well he assumed she was his age, maybe he was just judging based on her appearance. But she had said she just got her wand. She was talking about things he had never even considered, how a spell works? He was busy thinking about quidditch and girls to even fathom that. "You're a first year, right? You're talking so smart. You'll definitely be in Ravenclaw." he scrunched his face for a moment, "If your dad has gotten away with magic for so long, I bet you'll be fine."

It was not clear whether she was saying she hoped he was a first year, that she would be in Ravenclaw, or if she would be fine practicing magic outside of school. Perhaps she meant all three. She tucked her wand away and scooped the candies off the seat to shove back into her pocket. She considered getting up and changing into her uniform, but not much time had passed and she did not want to get it all wrinkled before the feast. She had a remarkable ability to wrinkle any article of clothing without seeming to do very much and she wanted to look presentable when she went up to be sorted. "My mother was in Gryffindor. I think she is hoping that I will be as well."

I think she is hoping that I will be as well." Pierre couldn't tell what he was really supposed to respond to, so he decided to talk about the Hogwarts houses. It was easy, and as his family had a long legacy there he had a lot to say. "I'm a first year, and I hope I'm in Ravenclaw. Every Forebeck since our family was admitted to Hogwarts has been placed in Ravenclaw. Our family is very old. My grandpa told me once that our blood is more pure than any Black or Malfoy, because they breed with each other. He said we don't because we're smart. I don't think those families actually breed with people within their own families though. My grandpa is very old, he sometimes says things like that." Pierre felt very self conscious all of a sudden, he didn't go around disrespecting his grandfather, or his neighbors. "That is to say, my grandpa can have his opinions. The Malfoys have always been very gracious to my family, they don't seem like they're unhealthy." He finished as quickly as possible. Suddenly someone knocked on the compartment door, making Pierre jump. The door slid open and, speak of the devil, Lucius Malfoy stood before them, nose held high, hair silvery blond and cropped close to his head. He was six years their senior. There was a Head Boy badge glimmering on his chest. "Ah, Pierre, I've been looking for you." the older boy looked at Vittoria for a moment, and, not recognizing her, ignored her outright. "I hope you're keeping good company, we'll be to Hogwarts in several hours now, if you need a change of scenery you're welcome to my compartment," he paused and added "If not, good luck tonight, maybe you'll break your family's streak and we'll see you at the Slytherin table tonight?" Pierre laughed nervously, he was just speaking ill of this boy and didn't want that to be obvious. "Well, you know better than me Luc, I don't want to disappoint family." Pierre was unsure about his response, it was either too cheeky and not veiled at all, or Lucius would feel impressed. Apparently it was the latter because the older boy smiled and raised his brow inquisitively. "Of course, smart. Seems like you might be in Ravenclaw after all, it's a shame, you would have made a great Slytherin. Like I said, you can come to our compartment anytime. We're near the front. I'll see you tonight." Lucius glanced at Vittoria, smirked, and shut the compartment door behind him as he left. Pierre felt very rude to ignore Vittoria. "That was Lucius Malfoy," Pierre began laughing very hard.

"Gracious indeed." She laughed as well. She was young, but she was no stranger to being treated ill by people who believed themselves her betters. She had long since learned to let it roll off her back. "How old is he, anyway? He wants to take you under his wing?" Suddenly she felt very anxious, if he was the kind of person Pierre grew up around maybe he felt the same way about her as this older boy clearly seemed to. Her brow furrowed - her face never learned to keep its composure. She always looked exactly how she felt.

He didn't really know what to do so he said exactly how he felt. "Luc is a complete prat." He paused, because he had never even thought about saying that out loud before. Lucius was like his older brother, well very distant older brother. He'd known the guy since before he could even remember. There were pictures on his mantle of six year old Lucius holding a newborn Pierre. "I wouldn't say that unless I meant it. I don't care for his family's general opinions. They think they're better than my family because we're not in the same house as them every time we're sorted, imagine what they think of muggle borns and non-magical folk." Fleshing out these thoughts was a strange experience, Pierre had never thought about how the Malfoys were, just that his parents were either always laughing, or were annoyed after each of their visits. "Our families go back a long way, and I think there is some good in them, but I wouldn't say we're friends. Me and Lucius."

How to do things without magic, he supposed. His father made him do everything without magic. Apparently to build his character, whatever that meant. "My whole family are wizards. Well witches too, but I guess a witch is a wizard and a wizard is a witch. Anyhow, there isn't a single muggle born person in my family, according to our history. What are muggles like? Are they really actually so oblivious? My neighbors, the Malfoys," Pierre gestured toward the door where Lucius had been standing, "say they're useless and vermin. My dad says they're really intelligent and resourceful. I can't imagine they could be both." he added, to assure Vittoria he wasn't in line with the Malfoys, that he believed his father to be correct.

[StoneColdCrazy] Prince Reddy [StoneColdCrazy] Prince Reddy [StoneColdCrazy] Prince Reddy "Gracious indeed." She laughed as well. Pierre could see the change on Vittoria's face immediately. Me and Lucius." Her relief was plain on her face. Another thought occurred to her. "What is a muggle? You have said the word several times, but I don't recognize it." Pierre, while shocked that she didn't have more to say, answered politely. "A muggle is a non-magical person. In French we say muldus." he looked at her intently "do you know any muggle-born wizards or witches? I've never met any our age." "Oh. My father calls them mondano. My mother's parents - my grandparents - they are mondano. I don't know any witches or wizards our age whose parents don't have magic, though i went to a mundane school before Hogwarts, so I have many friends who don't have any magic at all." She smiled, remembering them fondly. She was sad she would not be able to write them and tell them about Hogwarts. She had had to lie and say she was being sent to a private school in London that her grandparents were paying for. Pierre was mystified the by concept of an all muggle school. What did they learn? How to do things without magic, he supposed. His father made him do everything without magic. Apparently to build his character, whatever that meant. "My whole family are wizards. "Why...they are just like you or I. They do math and learn history and science. Your father is right, they are as intelligent as anyone and they certainly are resourceful. My grandparents own many things for making life perfectly comfortable without magic," her face looked horrified and she rubbed the back of her neck - clearly uncomfortable, "I can't imagine why anyone would want to associate with a person who would call a whole class of people vermin. You are right to turn down that boy's friendship, I think." The statement was bold. Perhaps too bold to say to a person just met, but she did not care to say so. The more she talked to this Pierre, the more she felt comfortable with him. If he did not want to call her rude and storm out of the compartment after the older blonde boy then she would know that her gut had been correct and her judgement sound. And if he did...well...then perhaps she could get her nap before the feast after all.

My father takes me to London sometimes and we go in the shops, but I've never been allowed to touch things. Sometimes my father waves to people he knows in the street, but I always thought they were just convincing wizards. You know, they blend in perfectly," Pierre could see Vittoria felt very sure of herself that muggles were just like wizards, so he decided she must be right. She seemed shades more intelligent than Lucius anyhow, and she was only eleven! "I don't know if I want to associate with Lucius, I mean he's very annoying," Pierre seemed confident that Lucius was annoying, but it was apparent the longevity of their relationship made it difficult to speak ill of him openly. "But, I don't want to abandon him. It wouldn't be right. I know he'd do it to me the minute I gave him a reason, but," Pierre stopped and looked out the window for a long moment, not really sure how to continue. "My mother used to tell me to value people, regardless of who they present themselves to be, because there's something good in everyone. I suppose the situations were different, but I guess it still fits." He looked sort of airy again for a split second before he smiled at Vittoria widely, probably the first genuinely happy smile he had smiled the whole train ride - at least that wasn't dripping in nerves. "I hope we're both in Ravenclaw. It's really nice to have made a friend on my own."

She was not really sure what to make of that and she was not sure whether or not she was comfortable with his answer either. He didn't react in either way she had expected. "I suppose," she said slowly, forming her words thoughtfully "that everyone does have at least some good in them." She smiled back at him. "I think you are very smart, Pepe. I do not think you have to worry at all where you will be sorted." Vittoria yawned and looked out at the countryside passing swiftly by outside the train, it had started to rain lightly while they had talked. "How do you suppose the sorting works?" she asked after a bit. "My mother would not tell me. She said it is more traditional to wonder and be surprised. Is there some sort of test? I do hate tests."
