With a bow of respect Chase took off his hat and smiled at Jane. "It's a pleasure to meet you Lady Everett." He said remembering what a gentleman would say. He didn't kiss her hand or anything but gave her a warm smile before taking a seat in the empty chair she pointed to. Eventually her father and the older gentleman entered into the room.
When she spoke he froze for a moment. M-Marriage!? This is what this whole affair was about? Chase wasn't sure about marrying anybody! Or well at least not plan on it, after all this wasn't his time period! He shouldn't even be here! He was silent for a while trying to shrink into the room as one by one most of the sutors began what appeared to be some form of application with the beautiful Duchess.
When it came to his turn Chase was a bit reluctant, but took a seat infront of her. By now there weren't many men left, since most of them were sent home after being rejected. The old man smirked, there was no way this guy was even going to come close in impressing Lady Jane! She was his anyway, her father was just going to hand her to him so he didn't understand why he allowed this to happen still?
The Duke watched Chase with curiosity. It was obvious there was something different about this young man. From the way he was sitting, it was clear that he wasn't rich or noble. Though that did raise some questions, that honestly didn't matter. Though he wanted to marry his daughter off, secretly he wanted Jane to be happy. Yet he would never admit that to her personally.

(you're little twist has sparked something in my brain 8D .... I don't know if you was thinking along the same lines.. but actually having her forced into marrying that old man.. but sort of has... well a side on relationship with Chase. Totally up to you though (: )
Jane was a little surprised that he didn't kiss her hand. Doing so was a sign of respect to a woman. But no matter, he probably didn't know about it. Looking over at them all in a long glance, she could tell which ones would not make the cut instantly. Though all that would change with her little talks with each of them. Most were too over the top, trying to hard really. And it was so clear, she had seen it all before.
Like she predicted, no one was good enough in eyes nor her father's for that matter. They all just wanted the same thing, money and power. Sometimes she wished she wasn't the daughter of a Duke..
Now it seemed Mr. Frost was the only one left. Jane still took no notice in the old man, he didn't seem to go off with any of the young suitors so he must of been this last one's father perhaps. "So, Mr. Frost is it?" Jane asked, making sure she got his name right. "As you can see, you're the only one left here. Now tell me.. what brought you to my home today?" this was the first question she always asked. And always got the same answer.

(Hmmm..that could be interesting. I never tried it out, perhaps Chase knocks her up and they pretend it's the other guys child? Until maybe they're caught or something? Honestly I really didn't have that in mind xD I figured he would rescue her from the horrible arranged marriage and such. I dunno. *shrug*)
Why was he here? To be honest, he wasn't sure himself. "I..err..don't really know honestly." he said with a sigh, "I'm a..traveler you see. When I entered the town people suddenly stared to chase me so I sort of hopped into your garden to hide from everyone. That didn't work out so well, and the next thing I know I'm being pulled into your mansion, dressed up, and now sitting in front of you. I honestly have no intention of getting married, n-no that you aren't beautiful or anything! I-I just don't know you and it wouldn't be right! Watching the other men, I feel sorry that you have to endure this. I mean shouldn't you get to choose who you want to marry?" Chase replied looking a bit confused.
There was silence in the room as mostly everyone stared at him. Chase blushed feeling silly, did he just say something wrong? Her father looked mad, but would wait until she was done. The older gentleman shook his head a smirk upon his face. It was obvious that Miss Jane would toss this fool out on his bottom and he declared the winner of her hand.

(well it made me think of a song I like xD it's sort of Victorian themed music.Anyway, that sounds like a good idea (: ... or she could tell him she is pregnant by him and he could try and get her out of the marriage.. maybe she tells him just before he is about to leave to his timeline or something like that... sorry I get a little into plots (: )
The woman didn't know what to say to all that really. Chase was pretty much saying what she thought too. Why was she not allowed to choose properly who she wanted to marry? Why couldn't she fall in love like other people who were far poorer then herself. Jane wanted to feel like a human being, not some breeding machine to be used for her money and any heirs what won be born from her. She couldn't voice her opinion on his comment though, that would be wrong of her in the eyes of society.
Putting that to the back of her mind, she went to fix the matter of why he was here. "You didn't come here to be a suitor?" in a weird way it made her sad. This man had said the one thing she wanted to scream out, yet was not even here to take her hand in the first place. Though there was nothing she could do about that but repair what had been done. "I'm very sorry for this whole mix up Mr Frost.. I.. well we all assumed you were here for the same reasons as the rest of these gentlemen." Standing up for a moment, Jane walked over to Chase. "Once again.. I'm deeply sorry for this whole mix up, I hope we didn't dampen your travels..."

(hey if you have a plot idea then feel free to roll with it. smile Yeah I was thinking they both escape back into his own time period. Maybe by having her fake her death so she could be "erased" from her history and start a new life in the future. lol I dunno. *shrug* Or there could be some crazy Back to the Future like plot stuff. I'm sure their child will be interesting as well, a mother from the past and a father from the future. Time Paradox!! or something xD)
Chase bit his lip, suddenly feeling so guilty. Bowing he shook his head. "N-No it's my fault. I should have said so earlier before wasting your time My Lady. I'm very sorry!" he said sadly.
Her father sighed, "Mistake or not you still have to go through the process young man! Though I must say you clean up well for a pesant!" her father said waving his hand to his daughter. "Carry on! Weather he is here to marry or not, this is our way My Daughter!" he ordered in a slight tone of annoyance.
The older gentleman frowned, why wasn't this man tossed out yet? His hand reached for his hidden pistol he kept with him. If this man wasn't going to be forced out, he would be dragged out dead, but before he could think about it there were too many witnesses around. Weather he was chosen or not, Lady Jane belonged to him!
Chase stood up and smiled at her warmly. "Oh you're perfectly fine by the way. Please none of this Mr. Frost stuff either, honestly it makes me feel like a baker or something. My name's Chase Frost, it was an honor to get to meet you." he smiled taking her hand and giving it a gentle kiss. It was probably too late but he oddly felt like doing that.

(oh my I forgot time paradox'! How could I forget that! ya that does sound good 8D.... and awesome.. i thought it would be an interesting thing to play out. Because it did happen alot in those times with being forced into a marriage but actually having your lovers child, posing it as your husband's very common lol ... and indeed the child would be interesting xD)
Hearing that he would have to go through the same process as all the others made her smile. There was something different about this man, he spoke of things that no women would even dream of doing. Though longed for it in every sense of the word. "That's perfectly fine Mr Frost.." she smiled once more "It look's as though my father is letting me have the pleasure of being in your company a little longer. Though don't worry about it, I highly doubt you will be the one marrying me" Jane has to put on an act for everyone to try and seem like a proper lady with manners but still knowing her place in the world, under the man's power.
"Chase?" The elegant woman repeated to herself. It was rather strange calling a gentleman by his first name, though she would allow it. "That's a rather interesting name... Chase I must say. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone owning it" Her eyes fluttered as he kissed her on the hand, he was rather gentle and not forceful like everyone else. "My name is Jane..." she replied, going against every single rule by using her first name without a title to call on.

Chase blushed a little. Of course his name probably would sound odd to most of the people around this time period. He had to admit that Jane was kind of a plain name but suited her well. Gosh her eyes were so pretty.
It looked like he would have to go through this after all. Oh well, now that he was knee deep in the river might as well cross it and get this over with. Letting go of her hand he smiled at her gently.
"It's fine, now Jane..err. L-Lady Jane please continue." he said forgetting where they were for a moment. Why did looking into her eyes seem to block out everyone else around them? He just wondered how she felt, Chase figured she wasn't really wanting to go through this ritual either.
Her father figured the young man could at least make a nice friend to Jane, but if she did choose him he would have to be the one to tell her that his daughters hand had already been bought off by Hubert.
(I forgot the old man's name, I think it was Hubert xP)

He seemed to hold at her hand for some time, being gentle throughout each second that passed. Something was very different about him indeed, so polite. It felt as though no one was in the room to her either, she took no notice of everyone around them. Jane just wanted to learn more about this man, travelling sounded interesting.
"Well Mr.. I mean Chase. I'm going to ask thing I have asked all the others and if we seem to click or I find your conversation pleasing, I shall ask more." Clearing her throat in a manner that a lady would, she began to recite the normal questions everyone had been asked before him over the past year. "What are your aspirations in life? Things you aim to gain out of it all and plan to do so" this was usually a very important one, an answer could easily determine a man's character.
(haha idk..)

He thought for a moment, sure he was a sucessfull buisnessman in his own time period however. Unsure how to really reply to this, Chase decided to be honest. "I've always wanted to have a family. I think it would be lovely having children and raising them with love. Also sharing my life with a woman to cuddle and share the joys and the pains of marriage with would be wonderful. It's something I've always dreamed of and aspired for as a child. Sure other people may aspire to be rich, or even to want the world to know who they are. I just want someone to hold, someone I can be friends with and fill her life with love and laughter...it doesn't matter if she wealthy or not just as long as she's willing to love a fool like myself. That's what I've always aspired for Lady Jane." he replied staring into her eyes as he spoke.
Chase was blushing a bit feeling a bit silly himself. Jane probably would frown upon something like that. He figured she wanted a rich guy, isn't that was all Duchesses wanted?

In fact she didn't frown on what he had just said. Most men did say something along those lines but not exact. It was usually; I think I am worthy of such a title I shall gain from our marriage, I hope one day you will bear me a son who will carry on my legacy and pass it onto his children. Though what Chase said was full of love and companionship, such things that was was never exposed to. Rich people were always paired up, usually as soon as you were born a person was set to marry you. That didn't happen for Jane because her father was still hoping for a son from his many wives, though alas she was his only child.
"I think that's very noble of you to want to give a woman such a life." she was about to say that's very rare in a man. Though she didn't want to anger her father or anyone else in the room so bit her lip to hold it. Hearing him speak of such beautiful things made her want that, sure she was scared of having a child because it usually meant in an early death, but her womanly emotions couldn't help but want it. "ummm so..." Jane snapped out of her daze "Tell me.. about you're travelling.. where have you been?"

Chase wasn't sure what to say. What could he say? Why did she have to ask that question? "Well I have been to canyons and destertlands. I've seen gysers that shoot up into the sky, uhh..gysers are boiling water that erupts out of a hole in the ground. Beautiful waterfalls that would rush and roar with power. Tall mountains and deep and thick forests. It's a little hard to answer that to be honest, sometimes I don't stay in one place long to really remember what it was like." he said describing a few places he had gone on buisness trips.
Biting his lip he blushed. "I think honestly one of my favorite places was misty covered mountains. The view of them is so breathtaking and makes you feel alive!" he said sort of describing the Smokey Mountains though none of them would probably know of such things. This woman's questions were odd ones, but why did Chase want to suddenly be the man she would choose?
He had to get back home to his own time! What if he did get chosen? What if they did fall in love..what if he had a child during this time period!? What then? Chase had too nice of a job to really stay but..Jane deserved someone who would see past her fansy show. Part of him felt sorry for her, the woman would probably end up marrying some man she didn't care about then bearing him a child. From the small knowledge he had from this era she probably wouldn't be seen as much after she was married off.

Jane had read books about such places, ones that had artist sketches inside to give you a rough idea of what it was like. A woman wasn't really allowed to be interested in the great world and theories. But what was there to do as a woman? Learning about things around the world kept her mind occupied, even if some of the books were a little over the top. In this era they still believed in such things as vampires. Victorians were fascinated by the supernatural! Many amazing stories came out around this time. Frankenstein was a very popular book, having been published only twenty-eight years ago. Tales like Dracula and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde weren't even written yet. Not even Charles Dawin's famous book on evolution existed at this time! Everyone had alot to learn..
"Goodness, it must of taken you years to travel around that much I must say" the way he described all the places made her wish she could see them, though women were thought not cut out to travel to remote places. That was a man's job to explore the world and chart new maps!

Chase blushed a bit at her sparkling eyes. She seemed so curious about everything, it was kind of cute actually. "W-Well yeah sometimes, but I have alot of fun along the way. I get to meet people and explore towns. It's alot of fun!"
He kind of had to lie a bit, it didn't take him years but hours actually to fly some place back home. To keep himself from really being accused of something the last thing he wanted to was to be burned at a steak for really being a witch. Chase had remembered how supersticious the people of this era were, or well what he read about the era in history books anyway.
Her father cleared his throat noticing his daughter seemed to be gettng attached to this stranger. Now would probably be a good time to reveal her husband and get this day going. There was so much to do after all, Jane should know that, if she wanted to talk there would be plenty of time later for that.
"Well if you are finished My Daughter. I have some news that should please you as much as it's pleased me." he said with a smile as he cleared his throat again to get everyone's attention.
Hubert smirked, good! It was now time to get this ball rolling. He was getting tired of waiting and standing. Once he was married to this woman he could start sucking the riches off of her father like a bloated tick. Oh he couldn't wait! Of course he would have nothing to do with the girl but to use her as a tool to wave and smile. After all that's what a woman was good for! Hubert didn't want any children, but if one came out this marriage then so be it!
Chase looked back at her father and Hubert for a moment. Something about that portly, middle-aged man seemed fishy to him.

The elegant Victorian woman was to ask more on Chase trips around the world. She wanted to know if theories written in books were real afterall. Though sadly her father didn't give her a chance to act on it. Maybe later...
So her father had some so called 'good news'? It never usually was, but maybe he had finally come to realise that pairing her up like this was not going to work. She wanted to be like the poorer girls she had seen, they chose who to be with through the fondness of their hearts. Keeping her cool and hopes up, she gave a smile. "I am finished father... now what is this news? Please do share"

Her father and Hubert walked up to Jane, sort of moving Chase out of the way. "My daughter, for years I have tried to allow you to choose a suitor for yourself, but alas you always send them home. I am not getting any younger and decided to act myself and found a suitor for you. I present to you Hubert Ferwink, your soon to be husband!" he father replied presenting the fat toad before her.
Hubert bowed, took her hand and gave it a kiss. "I look foreward to it my love. I cannot wait to have you as my wife!" he said with estatic glee as he bowed once more.
Chase just stared at them oddly. The guy was what like 45? That was kind of disgusting! Jane should have someone around her age, not some old guy. He felt like speaking up but Chase was kind of a fifth wheel.
"You shall be married in two days. Do not worry I shall provide everything for you. I already have the dressmakers hard at work designing your wedding dress. As for you young man, you may leave. I am sorry to have brought you here in the first place. I mistook you for some noble, which you are not." her father said turning to Chase crossing his arms. "Hmm...I could make you a butler or stableboy if you have no other place to go however. Forget what I said, you look strong, I could use you around the mansion. Come Hubert we have alot of planning to do!"
Hubert bowed again flashing a really cheesy grin. "I cannot wait until you and I are wed my love. My, my, you will make a fine wife! My friends shall be so jealous of me! Ohh hoo ho!" he laughed then turned to give Chase a disgustfull look. "Are you sure you want this simpleton around? He might cloud your daughter's mind with his stupidity?"
At least I'm not some fat 45 year old guy who smells like cigars and garlic. He thought with some slight annoyance.
"Oh he's harmless! Mary! Get this man dressed in some work clothes! He's got stables to clean!" after that the men left the mansion to go celebrate the arranged marriage!
Chase was unsure what to say or think, but something in his gut told him that fat old guy was bad news.
