He nodded his understanding and clenched his jaw tightly. "You'd better get to the caves. The healer will take care of him." He added, I can feel the change coming. I'll have the guards chain me. Get them into position for the battle. Instruct everyone that if I get loose during the change, they should steer clear of me and keep throwing enemies in my path to distract me. If I run off, leave me until the sun comes. I'll be human then and I shouldn't be hard to track. "Be careful." With that, he departed for the highest cave once more, and was chained heavily to a large boulder.

Alistriona led Darcer deep into the caves into one cave that wasn't connected with the others. They had set it up as an infirmary when they had decided on using the caves. She motioned to Nera to go help Aarvard and the others.

She helped Darcer to the the small cot and laid him down. Once she was sure that no one was near, she removed the blind fold. She filled a small basin with water and grabbed a rag. Gently Alistriona washed Darcer's face to remove the dried blood and other debris.

She could feel his eyes on her but paid no heed to them. She could feel Aarvard's pain from the change and sent feelings of warmth and comfort through the bond. Alistriona continued to wash and bound Darcer's wounds. She asked softly, "Is there any other wounds that i need to know of?" He shook his head.
"Very well, I'll leave you to your rest. Keep in mind that there is a guard posted outside the entrance." Alistriona then turned and walked away.

User ImageSon, Who resides in the body of...
^*^The Guardsmen^*^

---------------------

Son walked silently along, doing his best not to trip or fall as the woman led him to what he could only assume was their camp. He smelled many of the things he would associate with a small but possibly temporary settlement as he came to a stop. He took a half step back when he heard the thud of something hitting the ground in front of him. He did not know what it was, without being able to see he guessed it could be a boulder falling, as he knew of nothing else that would fall from so high to the ground.

After a few hesitant moments though he heard a man speak from in front of him and he knew that it had in fact been a person and no object that had descended before him. He silently wondered for a moment about the mans words, telling them to get inside and get to a healer. He could tell quite clearly he was some sort of leader, his voice was authoritative and speaking orders seemed becoming of him. More then that though he noted that after he had descended there had been silence, and then he had given an order as if he knew exactly what the situation was. There were various ways he could justify it to himself, some practical and some not, but something about these people seemed very unusual to Son. He followed the woman once again as she led him into the caves.

He sat quietly and allowed himself to be tended to. The wound was not particularly bad, or even too debilitating, but having wondered for so long without treating it had caused it to expand and start to infect. He watched her as he dressed the wound, silently noting how it was done. As much as he hated to admit it there were many things he had never learned when he had walked the world so many years ago, he had been secluded most of his life. When he finally did get out he had discovered that he had the power to solve most problems regular people faced through magic, and so continued in not learning simple necessities of mortal living. Until he could return his old powers he knew he would be forced to keep residence in these weak bodies, and he didn't want to end up in the same situation he had ended up with this one, wandering through a forest dying. When she finished he made sure to catalog how she had done what she did in his memory, should he need it for later.

After she left he sat and considered what he would do with himself now. He knew that running was futile, he didn't even know where he was and he was still hungry and injured. He could just leave his current body and take the guard at the doors body, but he wasn't sure it was good idea to leave here yet. As much as he wanted to get on with his conquest to restore his old powers his latest episode had shown him he still had a lot to learn. These people seemed to be some sort of military group, he was guessing some sort of rebellion by their guerrilla like hideout. He imagined he could take some time learning from these people. At least if nothing else he knew he could acquire a better and more powerful body here, he would not have chosen the one he had had he been given an option.

For now he waited, using what little power he could channel through his mortal body to speed up the healing of his wound. He couldn't do much, but speeding up a natural process that was already going on was something he could have managed if he were in the body of a chipmunk. He knew that his wound would be all healed in an hour or two now that he had warmth and the infection had been delt with.

[OOC-Sorry for the delayed reply. I had a bit of writer's block and was just in general busy in the outside world]

Alistriona walked through the caves and came to the main chambers where most of the weres and their people were located. She motioned Nera forward and asked her to find out if they had enough food around them to sustain them. Alistriona strode forward and cleared her throat. She waited for the chamber to settle and the people's attention to turn to her. "Ladies, Gentlemen, Weres alike...the change will soon be upon us. It has been quite some time since most of us were united as a whole. There will be no fighting each other as we need each and every one of you. You may hunt and run but stick within a five mile radius. Enjoy the pull of the wolf and trust their instincts but remember you are still you. Go now, run strong and may the moon bless you!" Alistriona howled loudly as she could as she remained human when the change overtook most of their people. She ran to the opening of the cave where Aarvard was and came up to him slowly.

She knew that he still lost himself in the wolf and wanted to run free and hunt. However even he knew what was best for his people and that was to chain himself up. She knew that he would reach bloodlust soon if she didn't abate it while she still had her wits about her. She shifted into her half-were state where she stood up like a human but had the snout and paws and the muscular skeletal system like a were but she still had her reason. She kept on her armor just in case they fell under attack.

Aavard faded into darkness as the beast took over. It could smell danger. Blood. It wanted to be part of it. It wanted to tear. It wanted to kill. Alice entered the cave. The beast snarled. Before it could lunge, something more pressing caught his attention - what at first sounded like the coming storm and torrent of wind was now more defined. It was a war cry. They were under attack. As Alice fled the cave to lead her pack into battle, Aavard struggled against his bonds, eager to join the fray.

Alistriona rushed through the cave, her large form moving swiftly. She briefly touched her mind to Aarvards to find that he was completely consumed by the beast. The beast was their inner animal and while she had grown up with hers, Aarvard was not quite so lucky. She closed her mind and focused on the task at hand and called out to Nera.

"Nera give me a sit rep." Alistriona barked out the order in her guttural voice. She could scent the blood of the werewolves and her people. Nera filled her in and she raced to the front lines. The packs warriors filled in behind her holding the line steady. She gave a loud roar that echoed for miles not only to challenge their attackers but to boister the men's spirits.

Meanwhile, she sent her mind's eye in the split second that it took her to roar out a challenge to see what Darcer was up to. What she found, she didnt like.

Aavard let loose a roar that shook the very ground and made the trees tremble. With one last mighty tug, the chains broke free. He jumped from the high cave and ran into the fray. The two armies clashed, but Aavard didn't know nor care which was ally and which was foe. He felt a sword pierce his side. Rather than injure him, it simply enraged him. He tore into the man greedily, scattering pieces of him into the fray.

He turned, looking for his next opponent.

The beast was hungry.

Alistriona felt the pull of her mate as he roared and turned to watch him tear into an enemy. She mentally groaned because this made her task more difficult. As he was completely consumed by the Beast there was no reasoning with him. Which meant that she would have to face him and subdue him.

As sounds of men screaming and swords clashing permeated the air around her until the scent of blood was thick upon the air she relished the upcoming bloodlust and focused it into decimating her enemies. She heard her name being shouted from down the line and looked to find Aarvard attacking their own people. She roared furiously and shouted for Nera.

"Nera." Alistriona saw her fight her way towards her. "Hold the line steady make sure that there are no break-throughs and send someone to keep an eye on the prisoner. If he's assisting the enemy in someway, kill him. I have to go take care of Aarvard." Alistriona left the werewolves and her people in capable hands.

She stripped her armor on the run and finished shifting into her true were form. She stood taller than most weres and her long strides ate up the ground. She tackled Aarvard before he could harm another one of their people. She focused her bloodlust and it filled her with unbelievable strength. But she didn't let her beast consume her. She snarled and nipped to get his attention.

Aavard snarled as something crashed into him, hard. With a snarl, he quickly recovered and struck out with claws. The attacker went flying into a tree. He narrowed his yellow eyes and let loose a low, guttural growl. For a moment, something deep within him stirred, hesitant. It was quickly pushed aside by a primal urge to kill. He lowered himself for the attack, murder and hunger coursing through his veins.

Alistriona gave a small yelp as she careened into the tree. She dug deep for the beast now that she had her mates attentions and let it consume her. She pushed to her paws and leapt forward. She let instinct guide her moves, She bit through skin and gouged with her claws. The scent of blood made her even more frenzied. Each time he threw her off, she'd get right back up.

Aavard's fury grew with each of the wolf's attacks. For some reason, he held back his strength; something deep inside him didn't want to kill her, just stop her. Each time she got up again, he could feel the fury rise a little more. Why couldn't she just stay down. Finally, he threw all of his strength and weight behind a powerful blow with a colossal paw. Her head hit a rock and she was still. Dead, unconscious, or simply lulling him into a false sense of security he did not know - nor did he much care.

With a howl of triumph, he sprinted through the fray, swatting aside attackers and snapping at them with his massive jaws. He kept running and running until he ran out of energy to continue. He flopped down by a stream as dawn approached and he shifted back into a man. He was bleeding from his many cuts and wounds and covered in dirt, sweat, blood, and rain. He wore only pants. Despite all of this, his exhaustion prevented him from bathing in the river or seeking shoes or proper covering. While the werewolf form lent him enormous strength and stamina, his human body could not cope with such strain. So it was here, by the river, that he chose to stay, trying to make sense of the blurry mess of memories attempting to ignite his feeble senses.

He was too far to hear any sounds of battle, and soon he was asleep, the bright sun beaming down and warming him.

^*^The Guardsmen^*^

---------------------

The night was long with the sounds of battle raging for many hours. Son had considered going to see what was going on, but his caretakers had seen it appropriate to send a guard just for him despite the battle. He didn't mind much though, after he had seen the guard they sent for him he was rather glad he stayed inside. The man obviously was having some problem maintaining his human form on this particular night, and he had gotten a good look at what these people really were. After seeing that he was quite sure that taking one of these peoples bodies wouldn't be a very good idea. He would have to battle with two minds for control of the one body, both of which would have probably become stronger than any normal mind from battling with each other for control of the body. While he was sure he would eventually win such a battle, it would take too much time and be far too dangerous to be worth even trying. He also noted after watching the interaction between his female captor and the leader of this group earlier he had little doubt that his taking over of anybody in the group would not go unnoticed. So instead he just laid back in his cot and listened for a while, and then slept. He felt confident if these beast people won their battle and he did not try to escape his cell that they would not kill him, most likely just let him go somewhere far away. On the other hand if they lost he could just as easily take a fresh body from one of the opposing sides soldiers, or maybe even an officer. He could use an army for what he had in mind for the future. As he drifted off to sleep he dreamed about all of the many plans he had for the future, not only for himself but for everyone in this land.

Half way through the night he was awoken to the sound of a commotion in the hall outside his cell. He poked his head up curiously to the sound of snarls and yelling. It seemed a small group of the enemies men had managed to sneak around the battle and get into these caves. He wondered if it had been a clever ploy or simply a few lost soldiers looking for shelter and finding the enemy stronghold. Either way from the sounds of it the guard who had been sent to watch Darcer was taking on the soldiers, and winning. He slipped his head out of the bars curiously to watch and saw his guard, fully transformed, squaring off against a lone soldier. About three other soldier were lain strewn about the cave in various states of dismemberment and the last one standing looked to have taken at least one mortal wound. The transformed guard though looked to be in an even worse state than the soldier, as there was a polished blade stuck right through his chest, just shy of his heart. He was amazed either one could still stand, much less fight. He made sure to take note as to the tenacity of both man and beast to keep fighting if given a good enough reason. They charged each other, both half limping due to their wounds.

The beast man's wound obviously was weighing him down, he lumbered slowly and when he finally reached his enemy he could barely rake out with his claws to try to grab him. The soldier, in one quick motion, forced his blade under the guards chin and sliced, sending a wave of blood cascading out. Another cut tore as the guards neck and another and another. Like a lumberjack the soldier chopped at the beast while it tried desperately to keep itself standing upright and clawed at the man, tearing gashes into the his flesh. The soldier never stopped though, even despite the terrifying gashes that tore apart muscles and cut him all the way to the bone. Finally with one last stroke the guards head severed and his body crumpled to the ground, twitching slightly with nerves, but otherwise motionless. The soldier dropped down to his knees, breathing heavily as his enemies head bounced down the hall and came to rest right in front of Son's cell. He looked at it and smirked, wondering if it had been a relief for the poor creature to finally die. The soldiers wounds would ultimately kill him, Son could tell that, it was only a matter of time before he bled out. He lamented at the fact that there were no worthwhile bodies available, but decided it ultimately was just as if no one had come at all.

The man looked up and saw Darcer watching from the cell and grimaced.
"I will destroy as many of you as I can before this wound takes me." He said, then pulled himself to his feet. Son backed up in his cell and waited as the man took the keys and unlocked the cell door, then came in with his sword in his hand, half stumbling. "Why don't you transform beast?" He asked, but he had no time to garner a response. Son entered the mans body and seized control, it was a quick and easy process given the mans state. He took the blade in his new hand and pressed it to his stomach, then pulled in swiftly, forcing the man to use the last of his strength in the motion. As he began to fall back he looked into the eyes of his old body, the body of Darcer, and went to it, leaving the dieing man to his fate.

Once he was safely back in Darcer's body he sighed, then returned to his bed. He slept comfortably, despite the choking moans of the man a few feet away drowning in his own blood. The beast had at least had the dignity to not judge him as an enemy at a glance. He was glad that that creature had been given death quickly, the flash of a blade and suddenly all the pain was gone. He had decided the soldier had not earned such a fate, given he decided with no life left to him to try to kill a stranger.

Alistriona lay there motionless. Her injuries were great from her battle with Aarvard or the beast that wore his body. She gave a small whimper and tried moving but the pain was too great. She conserved her energy and as she judged the nature of the injuries, she sank blissfully into unconsciousness.

---------------------

When Son woke in the early morning he found the scent of blood in his nostrils. He sat up and looked around, then quickly remembered the carnage from the night before. He wondered why no one else had come, he imagined if those who had taken him from the wilderness had won they would have returned, and if their enemy had won they would have stormed these caves. It was quite the conundrum, and Son could only surmise that either the battle was still going on somewhere, everyone was dead, or the two sides had stayed the night in strategic positions on the battlefield instead of returning to their home bases. He didn’t hear the sound of battle anymore, so he assumed it was safe enough to go look around. He stood and stretched, working out the cramps in his current form. His wound had healed fully over the night, which made him smile when he saw. He stretched a bit around his abdomen, making sure the wound wouldn’t reopen, then set out satisfied.

He walked past the bodies in his cell and the hall and proceeded to look for an exit. It didn’t take him very long as light was creeping through the cave from every open entrance. He squinted in the sunlight and looked out over the forest. The site of the battle was quite obvious, and the fact that it didn’t seem to still have any fighting going on at it likely meant they had all killed each other off or the battle had moved to another location. He knew it was pretty common if one side was to retreat for the other to give chase and clean up as much of their scattered numbers as they could. Either way though Son felt no great need to worry. He walked to the remnants of the battlefield, eyeing fallen soldier of both sides as he walked.

It seemed like the beast people had definitely had the advantage, but were outnumbered. Many of them had fallen, he could tell them apart from whoever the other sides was soldiers by their clothing. The beast people’s clothes usually were tattered and torn, carrying signs of their transformed state even though they all seemed to have returned to human state upon death. Their enemies tended to all wear armor, and carry weapons. As he looked around he came to a body he recognized, and seeing her made him frown. Son knelt down beside the woman who had saved his current form from freezing in the woods and tended to his wounds. He cared not about any of the other numerous dead on the field, some of whom still seemed to be dying, but something about this woman was different. He pressed his hand to her neck and felt warmth, life. His eyes widened as memories came flashing back to him.

Son stood over a young girl, his hand pressed to her head. She was young, ten if he remembered right, and she had fallen from a tree on her head two days before. People stood all around him watching him, waiting expectantly. He had come to heal her, he had been brought here by destiny, He had been brought here by…

“Abby.” Son said in a low whisper, his eyes glazed over as he held a hand to the woman’s throat. The world around him was a void as he drifted in his own subconscious. With a blink he returned to the present and looked down at her, a mesh of emotions from thousands of years before seeping into him. He saw in her face the faces of hundreds, and one he cared about more than any other. He lifted her up off the ground and carried her away from the battlefield and back toward the caves, moving as hurriedly as he could. Once he had her inside he took her to where he had been being kept the night before, where the medicines were kept.

As he returned to the place it suddenly occurred to him that this place was not a cell meant for holding prisoners. The entrance was gated and barred rather like a prison, but he had noticed many of the cave outcropping were equipped with such doors. He wondered if these caves had been selected by these people partially for just that reason. Given their transforming nature it was probably good to have an abundance of places to lock up those that cannot control themselves. The place he was being kept seemed to be a place for the treating of sick and wounded, which is what he was the night before. He laid the woman on the same cot he had slept on the night before and began treating her obvious wounds, just as he had intently watched her do the night before. She didn’t look to have any very major wounds, just a few cuts and scratches, but he cleaned and bandaged them none the less. When he was done he wet a cloth and pressed it to the bruise on the side of her head. He remembered the healing men in the village trying to relieve the little girl’s concussion doing so. He only hoped it would help now.

Once he had done all he knew how to do Son sat beside the woman and waited. He did not know if she would wake up, he feared she might not. Without his powers he wasn’t able to simply return her to full health at a snap of his fingers. As he sat he wondered for a minute why he cared so much about this woman’s wellbeing. He had yet to accept that when he looked at her he saw somebody else. He simply concluded that she must be important to his destiny in some way, that some smattering of his power remained and gave him this precognisense. And so he waited, a strange and ominous feeling enrapturing his human form. The fluttering he chalked up to Darcer’s less than healthy past dietary habits.

Aavard woke to the sound of a long cloak rustling over the leaves and grass, mingling with the sound of the stream. He opened his eyes to the glaring sun and squinted. Daegal Barras stood over him, polishing a silver knife - perfect for inflicting the greatest agony on a werewolf. The king of the Northern Territory smiled down at Aavard. "You've come a long way from just a wolf in my woods. You've become a guardian. A king," he crouched lower, blocking out the sun so that it gave him an odd sort of halo and cast his face in shadow. Aavard wanted to strike at him, but he was still too exhausted. "Even now, our people are warring. And here lies their beloved king, at my feet. However, we were friends once, and you have saved my life; I do not forget. So, in turn I will spare yours," he stuck the knife in the ground through Aavards tunic, pinning the shoulder. He withdrew another knife and stood. "And why don't we make things a little more interesting?" He pinned Aavard's other shoulder. "You can have these as a gift. I daresay you'll need them."

He began to walk away, the sun bursting forth once more and blazing in Aavard's face. The sudden shock seemed to wake him. "And why would I need them," he said, his voice thick with challenge.

"No reason. Oh," he added over his shoulder, "I'd hurry back to your mate, if I were you. You battered her quite a bit. And there's a certain someone who's not what he seems taking quite an interest in her."

Daegal vanished into the thick of the trees, his cruel laughter still echoing in Aavard's ears.
