Under all that hair and goggles, a nerve was pulsing once Melvin came to and saw the downed tower of Jenga blocks. He was almost there, but yet he STILL hadn't managed such a simple task. He was college educated (well, he went to college), could understand complicated math and chemistry equations, and had been exceptionally good in school. How was he THIS bad at such a game that even small children could play?!

It WAS frustrating to say the least, and he was close to throwing the blocks to the fishes, but that wasn't him.

Instead, he adjusted his glasses and clenched his teeth. "Right. Tomorrow." He rose up stiffly from his seat, resisting any urge to at least take ONE block and throw it, but again, that wasn't him. It's just a game. It's just a game. A game with no real purpose created from people who are probably more insane than backwards-walking boy here. Maybe he wasn't insane enough to succeed and take that as a sign of being normal, but part of him couldn't walk away with that reasoning. This course was not the curriculum of this place, and he wanted a damn gold star!

Glaring at the blocks, he cleared his throat and then looked up at Wilson with a softer expression. "Thank you, for showing me this course and letting me have one more go."

Jenga was misleading, very misleading.

Especially when in a white room that had piranha-infested water.

Wilson smiled when Melvin agreed. He reached out to pat him on the shoulder a couple of times. “Don’t worry, my first try at this particular course didn’t turn out that great either.” Perhaps he omitted the fact that he hadn’t wiped out so quickly and so often as Melvin did on purpose. He kept smiling anyways. “You haven’t tried the other courses right? I guess the sun or moon courses would be better choices to try next. They’re relatively straightforward and fairly easy.” How nice of Wilson to not say he had wonderfully failed both courses, the sun course multiple times even.

He shook his head. “No problem! You’re new, so it’s always good to try these things a few times to understand them better, right? You’ll get it in no time, I’m sure.” Wilson began to head for the stairs. “Well, once we head out the portal I guess we can part ways. It was nice to meet you, Melvin.”

"I'll have to try those

When I'm not about to stab someone in the eye with this pen.

Smiling, he followed Wilson up the steps and through the portal, ducking only once when another explosion went off overhead. "Maybe we can do this again sometime in the future?" When Melvin was sure he owned this area and was a master at it. Then he could show that he had easily accomplished learning this weird, little game of theirs.

The portal gaped wide ahead, and Melvin was a tad less apprehensive to enter it. On the other side, he felt relieved to be out in the open away from such a noisy, confining room.

"You've helped me a lot. If you ever need help with anything, I'd be happy to help." With that, he waved his goodbye and walked back to the dorms to go disinfect his dart wounds.
