The boy had written the note shortly after he had arrived at Malvren. It didn't say much, but he had still been unwilling to send it, knowing that he didn't deserve to be forgiven. That his was a betrayal that he deserved to be hated for.
Especially since he knew that he would make the same decision again. Well, not quite the same way, but in any case, he still believed that he had made the right decision. If only it didn't feel so bad.
Do not doubt your choices, his dragon said, in his own attempt to be reassuring.
"Thanks, love." There wasn't ever going to be better time, and he whistled for his silver firelizard. He landed on E'lov's shoulder, nuzzling his human. "Think you could deliver a message for me?" He received a chirp back, and the boy picked up the piece of hide with his words written on it.
'I'm sorry. E'lov.' He paused before rolling it up, turning it over. He didn't expect a response back, but just in case, he scribbled a few words on the back. 'If you're willing to talk to me, feel free to send a note back with Devi.' He snagged a blank piece of writing hide from his pile, and rolled it into his note. He had plenty, being the only one in the barracks, and he tied it onto the firelizard's leg.
"Take it to her, boy." He sent an image of the weyrling barracks, and an image of Hekate to the lizard, the images echoed by his dragon. "And then wait to see if she wants to send a return message. If she doesn't, just come back. I'll have treats for you."
Devi responded with a feeling of assent, and then flew up, vanishing between.
