As Dinnye looked at the painting Dorian watched his expression carefully. As the other boy smiled so happily Dorian found himself smiling joyfully too. He really enjoyed when other people liked his art.
"Do you really think I'm good at painting? Thank you. My father has had me take some lessons and I practice a lot. So you like it?" Dorian looked at the other eagerly as he waited for a reply.

Of course I like it.. It's absolutely brilliant... One of the most brililant things I've ever seen... And.. Do you know why it's so brilliant? Because you didn't do with for money in your wallet, but because what's here. Dinnye reached up to place a small hand on Dorian's chest, right about where his heart was, before quickly withdrawing it, a blush on his cheeks again.
I'm sorry.. I just.. I'm very much thrilled with your artwork... It's something to be treasured, that's for certain... I was wondering.. Um.. When you're finished with it, would you allow me to keep it?

Dorian blinked in surprise as Dinnye wrote his kind words. He didn't often hear those kind of things from other people and on top of that he was feeling very honored that Dinnye seemed to treasure his artwork so much. A warm feeling spread through his chest and he began to smile even wider.
"You are very sweet, has anyone ever told you that? I think that because you're so sweet and because I know you'll love it properly you can keep it. That way you can remember our first meeting. I hope it's just the first of many." With that he turned back to the canvas and added the last few touches to the painting.
"There it is all done." Dorian all but beamed at his new friend with a little bit of pride.

The blush that Dinnye wore grew darker as he was called sweet, and he quickly jolted more words onto his board, after he had finished listening to what Dorian had to say.
S-surprisingly, yes... People say it quite often, though... I don't try to be sweet. I just say what I mean... I was raised to never lie, and to never hold back your feelings, because honesty is one of the most treasured things in the world... But now, I have another treasure, and I know That I'll keep it safe for all time!
Dinnye was curious as to what his father would think of the painting when he showed it to him, and before he picked it up to take it away, he let is stand there, drying for a few moments time.
I was wondering.. Maybe sometime, you can come over to my home.. It's large, and has many fund places to play and such... I'm sure you'll have a good time!

Dorian actually was wondering if his face would start to hurt from smiling so much. He almost couldn't believe how adorable and kind Dinnye was. He began to clean his brushes and put away his paints while the painting dried.
"I think that's a good way to be." Dorian hadn't been raised that way, but he usually tried to be honest anyway. "You must have many friends that treasure your friendship. As for the invitation... I'd love to come over and visit sometime. That would be great. I'd invite you to my house as well but... my father doesn't really like other children in the house." He rolled his eyes a bit as he spoke the last bit.
Dorian tested the paint to see how dry it was using the lightest of touches so not to smear it if it still was. "It should be ok to take now if you hold it along the sides."

His rather small fingertips reached out to take the painting, admiring it much closer up than before. It was a wonderful painting, it truly was, and he couldn't help but start grinning again.
Dinnye gingerly place the photo ontop of the blanket he had, and dug through his bag, pulling out a business card. It was one of his fathers, but it did have his address on it. With a green pen, he scribbled on the back, writing out a little message, and signing it with a little drawing of a melon. In his neat script, he wrote This is my address~ I'm almost always home, so come visit me sometime, kay? .
After handing it to him, and picking up his newly beloved painting, holding it delicately, so as not to smudge any paint that might still be wet.
"Dinnye!! Dinnye, It's time to go!!" A young man called from the road, smiling down at the children who were closer to the river's shore. It was Dinnye's father, Elliot, having come to retrieve his young ward.
He hadn't expected him to come so soon! Perhaps he was asleep far longer than he had first anticipated... But.. Now it was time to leave his new friend...
