It was getting late and stars were starting to make an appearance. They had broken apart from the kiss a little while ago and Lucas felt amazing, heart beating irregularly beside hers. He was just holding her tight to him when he heard someone shout. It was Caiden...oh god...
Lucas gently squirmed out from under Fionna and jumped to his feet. Caiden's hands were balled into fists and he looked furious.

Lucas wasn't sure what to do or say. Caiden didn't look sad, but hurt and frustrated beyond belief. Lucas tried to say something, but couldn't think of what. He glanced at Fionna who was sitting there on the grass as a bystander, but he didn't want to look at her for too long...he had no idea what she'd say and was a bit worried...oh, dangitt...
"Caiden...I uhm...we were just...well..." He let the sentence fade away. "We worked out all our differences, and I mean...since you...well..."
He felt like shouting since you cheated on her, you don't deserve her, but didn't think this was at all the best time to do it.
((He knows Caiden cheated just because Fionna had told him either on the train to Hogwarts or in the great hall just that her x had cheated on her. He knows nothing more about the situation, other that Caiden left Fionna and had cheated.))

Caiden watched Lucas awkwardly stand up, and try to defend himself, but he wasn't doing a very great job. He looked a bit desperate standing there, and had a feeling he knew why. He probably felt guilty. "You know, I had a feeling that something like this would happen. You would just whisk her off of her feet, and I wouldn't have the opportunity to explain things to her. I deserve at least that." He wondered how much Lucas had known about all that had happened between he and Sparrow. It made him curious to know if Sparrow had blabbed about them, and had shared their relationship with Lucas. That wouldn't surprise him, since she surprised him by not being the type to give out second chances.

Caiden took a deep breath. He needed to control himself. "You know, Sparrow, I'm beginning to think that I meant absolutely nothing to you. I haven't even moved on from my little sisters death yet, but you have moved on from our breakup as if it didn't even happen!" He knew very well that Lucas would probably jump in and say something, which would be better, since he wasn't sure that he wanted to hear Sparrow speak at the moment. His blood was more than boiling over this time. He could feel his cheeks get red, and his body almost internally burst into flames. He wasn't sure if he could control all of this anymore.

Lucas was angry and his own hands were balled up in fists now.
"Don't try and give her a guilt trip!" He said, pointing at Caiden's face. He didn't draw his wand but he was tempted to. Still, Caiden was only a year younger, he may have a good shot in a duel and Lucas felt like he just couldn't let Fionna go now. Not even if he tried, he couldn't lose someone he was so close to when he'd never been this close to anyone for years.

"Just because your little sister died doesn't give you an excuse to do what you did! You were the one who ended it when you cheated!" He almost regretted his words, but didn't. He wasn't shouting, just talking a little bit loud. He had every right to defend himself, he loved her. Heck, he'd seen all his friends torn to pieces before his eyes, but he would never, NEVER, use that as an excuse to cling on to someone. It bothered him that Caiden did and he would've loved to shout the truth about his own loss at Caiden's twisted, angry face. Lucas kept his face as calm as possible, but there was no denying this was one angry battle. He didn't look down at Fionna...he knew he shouldn't have just blurted out what he did but he had to.

Caiden was taken aback. So it was true: Lucas knew. He tightened his jaw and let him finish before he let the air be filled with his own loud speech. He would defend his little sister until the day he died, and anyone who knew him would know that about him as well."I didn't use her as an excuse. I have never used her as an excuse, and I would never use her as an excuse. You do not know me, Lucas, so do not pretend that you do!" When he said that, he took a step closer to Lucas, only a few feet away from him now. He was controlling the urge to punch him at the moment, and he would have to keep the anger down if he wanted to succeed at that. He knew very well that Sparrow would never forgive him if he touched her precious new boy friend.

When he had taken a breath, he began to speak again. "I never cheated on Sparrow. She may not believe that, and you may not believe that, but I know exactly what happened. I made a mistake, but I most certainly never cheated on her. This just goes to show how little you really know, Lucas." He took yet another step closer to Lucas, and he felt his fist clench up.

Lucas couldn't stand hearing Caiden mocking him, saying he didn't cheat on Fionna. Oh really? So Fionna was lying? He knew Fionna would never lie and never cheat.
"Oh really? So you think you know everything about me then?" He didn't laugh, like Caiden had done at the common room, but he kinda wanted to just to piss Caiden off. Did he seriously think he knew everything? Heck, he didn't know Lucas's past, or present at ALL. He knew nothing of Lucas's encounter with werewolves, about his friend's death, or that he even WAS one. He stood his ground and didn't move towards Caiden. He didn't advance like Caiden was, he didn't want to fight. He just wanted Caiden to get the heck out of here and leave them in peace.

"So are you calling Fionna a liar, then? Face it Caiden, you lost her. If I know so little, then how come I know enough to end up with the best girl in the school? In both our eyes, she's the nicest and prettiest girl at Hogwarts. So if I know so little, then how come I know how to treat her right!"

His jaw had been locked in pain at this point. Lucas had been mocking him, and was also making a fool of himself. "I never said I knew anything about you, Lucas, and I honestly do not care to find out. All I said was that you knew nothing about me You want to know something about me though? I never give up." He stood still where he was, feeling that he was gaining enough ground in his conversation with Lucas that he didn't have a need to move any closer to the boy.

What Lucas said next actually bothered him though, to the point that he had to take a step back to think. "I am not calling the girl I know a lot about and have feelings for a liar. I didn't call her a liar. What I am calling her is misunderstanding. Like I said: You know nothing. You only know how to keep her around because you haven't screwed up yet you idiot! She didn't even give me a chance to explain everything that happened! I have proof and I have reasons!" He said all this, pointing back and forth at Lucas and Sparrow the whole time. He heard everything that he said, and he felt like Lucas had a point, but it was such a stretched. He had lost her, but he wouldn't let her go just yet.

"Well you don't know anything either! You don't even know..." Lucas took a deep breath and just shook his head.
"Fine." He said. "If you don't ever give up, fine. Then at least I'm fair. Go ahead and explain this...misunderstanding then so It'll save me the trouble of needing to argue with you further."

Lucas kept his fists by his side and stopped yelling to listen. He was fed up. If caiden wanted to talk, fine, he was sick of arguing and wanted Caiden to just hurry up and leave. He'd let him have his say, then it was get out so me and Fionna can lay back down in the grass and pretend this never happened. Still, the girl I know alot about and have feelings for part pissed him off. He was dating her now, honestly he was ready to just punch him. Still, he didn't think Fionna would be too pleased with this. Heck, she hadn't even spoken this whole time, or he just hadn't heard it. His quarrel, his fight was with Caiden and that was the only person he had attention for right now.

"I never said I knew anything. I don't know you, and I'll admit that. You are accusing me for nothing," he said, feeling the need to defend himself rather than make jabs at Lucas. That's all Lucas had been doing, and yet Caiden had the decency not to do that. When Lucas had trailed off, though, it had made him wonder what else Caiden hadn't known. But, that was Lucas' private business, and it would never be any good to Caiden. He never used information against someone. He felt as if that was just unfair, just like talking about someone behind their back. He may have been cocky and full of himself most of the time, or when he wasn't sad or distressed, but he knew what was right from wrong. "You don't have to tell me anything about yourself, I know enough as it is." Caiden looked away for just a moment, trying to fight the tears.

When he looked back, he actually had a smirk on his face. "I wouldn't want to give you that satisfying feeling, Lucas. The misunderstanding is between Sparrow and myself only, although she will probably tell you once I explain it to her, if I ever get that chance again." He had thought about it, and now it seemed like he may never have that chance ever again, since she wouldn't care enough as it was. Caiden wanted to walk away, but something told him he had to say something else. "You know, maybe she's not the one for me. She's changed since I've met her. If I would have ever pulled what you pulled, I would have never been forgiven. You may not have been either if I didn't specifically speak to her and tell her to forgive you and move on. You didn't deserve to be disliked or hated by her, and you got your second chance. I guess that there are double standards here." Caiden folded his arms over his chest, wondering how Lucas would respond. He had just told himself how he would never use information against someone, but he had to. Lucas was just getting too cocky for him, and he wanted to shut him up just a bit. Lucas couldn't control Caiden either, and he wanted to make that clear.

Lucas couldn't resist. That cocky grin threw him over the edge. Caiden had nothing to be proud of, treating Fionna like how he had. Maybe Caiden thought Lucas was being prideful, being a jerk. But he didn't know both sides. He didn't know Lucas was a werewolf, couldn't possibly know that was the reason why Fionna had understood and let go. Lucas knew he shouldn't be acting so quick to talk, but really he just wanted Caiden gone before he said something he would seriously regret. Why could nothing go right?
He walked straight up to Caiden and pointed his finger in his face. He was about 4 feet away from him, a fair distance. He didn't swear, he didn't throw a punch, and he didn't scream. But his face was a bit red, he was enraged that was for sure.
"Don't think you had anything to do with her forgiving me." He said in a low voice full of malice.
"She can forgive someone on her own. If she forgave me, and not you, then maybe I deserved it more than you did. She has changed since she was with you, that much is true. She's changed her tastes, and if you ask me, she improved it some. If I had an ex-girlfriend and saw them with another guy, I'd leave them in peace. Not interrupt and whine about misunderstandings. Heck, you won't even say what the misunderstanding was. She's with me right now, so just let it go. If she wants to be with you, she can be. There's nothing holding her back. And if she chooses you, I will step down and let it go. I've lost people before and I would do my best to handle it, heavy blow or not."

Here, he glanced at Fionna, wondering for a second if she would choose Caiden. He doubted it, because Caiden had been so rude and nasty, but Lucas wasn't being as calm as maybe he should be. To try and cool it, he took a step backwards and crossed his own arms. But he didn't sneer like he was better than Caiden, he hated that look on Caiden's face and didn't want to see it on his own. He did narrow his eyes a bit though.

"There, we've both had the chance to talk. Now why don't you just act mature and let us be."

Fionna heard a voice. A very familiar voice. She closed her eyes for a second hoping it wasn't him, but she heard it again, opened her eyes, and saw him. Caiden. Why, why, why? She asked herself. She didn't want this encounter to happen, but it was inevitable. It was bound to happen eventually. When Lucas got up, she wished he hadn't. She herself only sat up on Lucas' jacket and sat criss-cross.

Fionna was honestly bewildered by the two boys arguing. She didn't know what to say and couldn't form words really. Fionna still had some feelings for Caiden, but they were not quite as high as Caiden. Plus, it was more of a really good friend. They had only gotten over the awkwardness a little while ago. When the mention of Caiden's sister was brought up and Lucas started to use that against him, Fionna wouldn't have that and she whispered, "Don't bring her up." Nobody really heard her. They were too busy arguing. Fionna was sensitive to Caiden's sister because she had spent a long time with Caiden. Being around him made her feel like that about his sister even if he didn't talk about her that much, but the stories and moment he did were touching.

Caiden was still sticking to his story that he hadn't cheated on her. She couldn't believe it. There was the proof she had found. Caiden had kissed Riley and they had been writing letters to each other. She had pulled her knees up to her chest and was hugging them now. She hated to see the two fighting like this, and over her as well. Why? She really wasn't all that special. He has proof? She asked herself again before finding her voice and whispering, "You have proof?" She couldn't help but ask that. All this time she thought he had actually done it. What if she truly had been wrong? She would hate herself for that.

Fionna didn't think she had changed all that much. She was more in the loop and understood things now. Caiden didn't know about Lucas being a werewolf and didn't know the reasoning behind him sneaking out. This probably would have never happened had she not found out because Lucas would have been making further mistakes due to his furry little problem and she would have taken it as unnecessary and wrong. She shook her head wishing they would stop. She wanted to say that Caiden didn't know enough, but then he would ask what he didn't know and she just couldn't mention anything about it. It's true she had spoken to Caiden and urged her to forgive him, but that was his choice right? Fionna had already been leaning towards that option and would probably have reached it eventually, but she had gotten that extra push she needed early instead. Right? Her head was spinning now with doubts and wonders in her head. She wanted them to stop fighting so bad but just couldn't find her voice. Her eyes were a little watery from watching the two argue. "Stop. Please." She managed to say in a quiet weak voice.

"So you have a listening problem too? I said that it was between her and I. It has nothing to do with you, so I will not share it with you. What she does with the information is completely up to her, but I will explain that to her on a later date." He actually forced himself to speak calmly at that point. He didn't like Lucas's finger being in his face, and he really took all his nerve not to grab his hand and bend it back, or to punch the boy in the nose. He kept calm. When he spoke about Sparrow having forgiven Lucas on her own accord, he had actually felt bad for thinking that way. Of course Sparrow could have done it on her own, and maybe their private conversation did absolutely nothing, but he had a feeling that part of his conversation did at least something to push her towards that direction. "Okay, so maybe she could have forgiven you on her own, proving once again how much she has changed."

At the moment Lucas mentioned that her tastes in men had changed, all he could do was laugh. "I've got to say. You've got that all wrong. Look in the mirror - We are practically the same person. At least we are personality-wise at the moment. At least I can see the similarities, some of which I do not like. But let me say this. If she were unfairly taken from you, and you found that the reasons it happened could change everything, wouldn't you do anything you could to fix that?" He asked the question sincerely. He took a step towards Lucas once again, ready to speak when he heard a voice filled with despair, so quiet that he hardly heard it. He looked down, his expression changing immediately. "You have proof?"

Caiden was caught immediately off guard by the question, and had almost stumbled backwards. He had been prepared for the moment she asked, or for the moment he got to tell her, but in all of the situations, he had been alone with her, or in a place where he could tell her without the ears of Lucas near by. "I-... Yes. I... I have proof. It's the last letter that... Riley sent to me before she came over. Bu-... But I don't have it with me. It's in the common room. And I can explain everything that happened. But I was going to wait until I had a better moment, and right now just... It just doesn't seem like the right time." He had crouched down a bit, getting onto her level and avoiding Lucas's. He stood back up, unsure of what to say next. His eyes swooped over Lucas, trying to find the words to say. "I will fight for her. I still love her." When he said that, he had also looked at Sparrow, acknowledging her presence this time around. He turned to walk away, and he didn't look back as he did. He needed to think, and the only place for him to do that was in the commonroom; He wanted to look over that letter he had brought with him.

Lucas just scowled.
"Yes, I would try to get her back. But I wouldn't go so far as to ruin a moment between her and her new boyfriend. I wouldn't interrupt the moment. And if you have proof, fine. Go ahead. If she chooses you, as I said, I'll step down. But just like you said you'll fight for her, don't think for a second that I won't."

It had pissed him off when Caiden said they were alike, because part of it was true. The one huge difference Lucas could see was that he wasn't as cocky, he didn't have that arrogance that Caiden did. And of course, he would never barge in on his ex girlfriend, if he had one, with her new boyfriend. Just accept it Caiden, you lost. Yeesh, he hated people that just couldn't let things go and had to whine about it. Well, not hated, but it annoyed him. He never told anyone he was a werewolf for their pity, so when people talking about their situation for sympathy, it angered him. He wanted to say something to Caiden as he left, but thought better of it and just stood there, arms crossed.

Caiden had stopped in his tracks of leaving, and turned his head around to look at Lucas one last time. "Kind of contradictory, don't you think?" He said. Caiden didn't elaborate, and decided to let Lucas figure that one out on his own. He turned back to where he was going, and headed up to the common room once again.

"I'll step down if she chooses you. As long as she doesn't know, as long as she's still deciding, then I'll join in the competition."
Lucas hated trying to fight with Caiden. He'd never had a girlfriend before so he wasn't quite sure how to argue about it. He just hated Caiden's smirk. He had tired to defend himself and attack and just get Caiden to leave but knew he'd failed miserably. He just wasn't too good at this, he preffered being with just Fionna, loved sitting here with her.

He only had a few moments to reflect and be angry though, before Caiden was returning from the common room.

Caiden came back, holding an envelope with a letter on the inside. It had been opened carefully, showing that he wasn't that interested in the letter itself by tearing it open too quickly to get to the contents. The letter on the inside was actually crumpled quite a bit. He had been so angry with this letter after Sparrow left when he reread it that he actually wanted to tare it up. But he didn't to show some respect to Riley, although he had little of that for her at the time. The boy put it back in the envelope, and decided that this was the one he needed to show Sparrow, regardless of the rude and disgusting things she had been saying in them. When he walked over, he refused to look at Lucas, and he only looked at Sparrow. He didn't have a look of happiness in his eyes or on his face. It was actually a look of nervousness mixed with extreme seriousness, which had been something he had never been terribly good at. "The letter is inside. Sorry it's crumpled the way it is.. I was kind of angry when I read it for the second time..."

Caiden had this letter sealed away in his desk drawer when Sparrow had been to the house, so he knew that she hadn't seen this one. When he handed it to her, he knew that it was only one step to fixing things. He would have to explain everything to her, such as the kiss, and the rest of the letters and the letters he had sent back to Riley, and why she came over (although that was covered in the letter itself.)

He could remember the letter almost perfectly, because he had reread it, hoping that there was enough evidence to prove his innocence. He knew that there was the possibility that she wouldn't even believe him, regardless of this letter. He had to try though, he knew that:

"Dear Caid,

So what you're telling me is that you are still in love with this girl. I don't understand that. You haven't known her long enough to be in love with her, have you? And besides, what has she ever done for you? Just because she's pretty means nothing. I'm pretty and I mean nothing to you? That's what it seems like.

Anyway, I still love you, Caid. You kept saying I was too clingy, but I never really understood that term. How am I clingy? It makes no sense. I make you things and we used to hang out all the time! I'm perfect for you. I don't care what this other girl thinks. She's not as clingy you said, and I'm having a really hard time believing that.

My mom told me I could come visit! Did I tell you that in my last letter? I don't think I did. I sent a letter to your mom and she said I could come, and she told me she would keep it a secret from you. She loves surprising you, and I know that, especially after your little sister died. Anyway, I'll be there probably a day after you get this, maybe the same day! It depends on how fast your owl is. I know that she's fast, but not that fast. I want to meet this girl. I think you'll change your mind when I get there. You seem like you're fifty fifty about it to me.

To be honest, I'm really kind of jealous of tihs girl. I mean, you talk about her like she's everything to you, and I feel so small compared to that. I hope that changes when I come back. Oh! By the way, did I tell you that I was shrunk the other day? Yeah! It was so cool. Your father did it in class two weeks ago to another teacher, and it was so cool. Then he did it to me during the final and it was awesome! I don't think your dad likes me though. He says that you've moved on from the old school, and I don't want to believe that. I know that you've been writing Ashley and everything, making sure that Caleb is treating her right, and you've been writing Derik to make sure he's taking care of your quidditch team, but I felt so left out that I asked about you, and he said that you've just moved on for the most part and made new friends. I want to meet them. I want to be a part of your life again. I'll be getting my way, don't worry!

Love you!

Riley Carmichael <3

P.S. I hope this 'girlfriend' of yours isn't as cool as you say. That will make me look bad.

P.p.S I really didn't want that bracelet back that I made you. I'm bringing it back when I come to visit. I hope it still fits you!"

He let Sparrow take it, and then he looked up to Lucas. He wasn't sure what to say to him though, and he had to say something. "Well, I think I'm going to get going. I'm just... I think she needs to soak this in without me being here." Caiden decided to walk to the exit way, but decided to sit against one of the walls instead, waiting to see what would happen. He hoped that Sparrow would say something about it, but he wasn't sure what she would say.
