Twiddle Another day of dark skies and cold air. But one wolf didn't mind it. In fact, he loved it. His thick coat made it so he could resist the cold easilly, the only sign that he was effected by it at all were the white puffs of breath coming from his jaw as he breathed. He sighed heavily, making a long white plume of smoke flow from his mouth.
As he searched for shelter, the thought of his pack crept back into his mind, as it normally did when he found himself roaming alone. He tried to push them aside, but because of his weak state- no food for a few days, and no substantial shelter- he felt them creeping thier way in anyway.
He tried to find food so he could get them off his mind, but he knew no prey would be found in the open field where he now traveled. Instead, he laid down in the frost covered grass and watched the sky. He had always wished when he was a puppy that he could grow wings and fly like the birds did. But he knew then, as he does now, that it isn't possible for a wolf to do that.
But that didn't keep him from daydreaming about it.Furekatsu Anjiru The young pup sat scowling at everything around her. It was all truly vile when she thought of Audi somewhere in it. No matter how much cursing the pup did her mind wouldn't forgive her for letting the other one out of her sight.
Trotting hastily along Meskeet began a determined search for any trace of the black and white pup. No scent could be caught, and no visable tracks seen.
With distress she paused in her search to let out a low wail. That Audi was up to something, and she'd find out what. The silly thing couldn't even keep up-right on a rock, how could she elude one such as Meskeet?Twiddle Khals ear flicked around as he heard the sound. He picked up his head, looking around with his dark brown eyes. "Hmmm..." He muttered, sitting up. He put his nose to the air and let out a long, questioning howl. As it ended, he could hear it echo across the plains and into the forest beside him, and the mountains in the distance. He gazed at the mountains for a moment, and then pushed his thoughts away from them.
The brown and black wolf stood and stretched before he began a slow walk towards the source of the pups call. Furekatsu Anjiru Meskeet jumped at the sound of a howl. By it's finish she ahd collected herself but as it reverberated around her she glanced wildly about.
Surely Audi wasn't the source of it, but it didn't seem to be anyone from Phantom's group either. Who then, ahd it come from?
Squatting low in the dust the brown female listened as slow steps brought this stranger closer to her. Fur raised all along her back Meskeet was braced for a fight, even if she had little to no chance of winning one. Twiddle Khaliki followed his keen, old nose as he wandered around. He picked up the scent of a pup, he had known from the howl that it was one, and he also noted that this pup was a female. He let out a slight sigh, knowing mostly all females were crazy.
Still, he couldn't ignore the call, and he continued on his path until he spotted a brown ball of fur. She looked rather angry, and Khal raised a brow. She was in a fighting stance, although he had made no threat to her. Most pups didn't learn to be wary of strangers until much later in thier lives. He figured this one already went through some kind of hardship in her young time on the planet.
Pushing all his nosey thoughts aside, the old wolf laid down to make himself look less threatening, and gave the pup a smile. "Hello there, little one. I'm not going to harm you." His voice was soft and kind, much like his eyes. Furekatsu Anjiru Eyeing him warily Meskeet was reluctant to abandon her pose, but did so because she felt if she was farther from the ground she would look bigger.
He didn't come off as menacing. But Phantom returned to her mind and she imagined Phantom wouldn't be happy to see her treating this male like one of the group.
Attemtping to sound big, if you could when you spoke, she asked what she deemed an important question to kow the answer too. "Who are you and why are you here?" Twiddle Khaliki held back a chuckle at the pups question, and smiled a little instead. "I could ask you the same thing, my dear. But I'll answer you because if I don't you might get angry and hurt me." He made a fake scared face, pressing himself lower to the ground and folding his ears back, his eyes darting around. "My name is Buddy, and I am here in search of food." He lied about his name, as he always did. Even a pup may have heard about 'Khaliki the Cub Killer' by now. He knew the rumor had spread everywhere by his pack.
"And who might you be? And more importantly, why are you out here all alone?" He asked, one paw folded over the other in a casual stance as he eyed her curiously. Furekatsu Anjiru Had Meskeet heard of Khaliki she would have likely been more wary of strangers than she already was, but hearing him calling himself 'Buddy' she snickered. What a stupid name.
The pup wondered why anyone would be searching for food here. The more forested areas seemed far better places to look.
"I'm Meskeet, and who said I'm alone?" While doubtful he'd believe her pretending others were about seemed better than openly admitting she'd snuck off from Oogie and Oki to come catch Audi. No, the pup would simply hint that others were around, as they may well could be. Twiddle Khal knew very well that there were no other wolves nearby. Or at least, not close enough to smell them. He smiled a little at the pup. "Whatever you say, Meskeet." He said with a slight shrug. "I was just worried about you. No one should travel alone." As he spoke the words, he realized that he was a walking contradiction to them.
(Sorry for the delay, I'm coloring. xP) Furekatsu Anjiru Meskeet's nose wrinkled in disbelief. Phantom traveled alone, Retsu traveled alone, even Oogie. So why shouldn't she?
"I'm perfectly fine, thank you." It wasn't until now that she truly realized this land was practically Phantom's, and here this wolf was all settled on it.
"You best not stay here to long or you'll come to regret it." It was up to the imagination to dream up what would happy to 'Buddy' if anyone besides her found him. Twiddle Khaliki shook his head slightly. "I think you're the one who should be careful, pup. I have met wolves around here already. None meant harm to me. And I mean none to them. You can tell that to your pack leader."
The senior stood, his steps graceful. "And you should be more cautious. If I was someone else, you might not still be alive." He said softly, his brown eyes digging into hers. "Who is it you're looking for?" Furekatsu Anjiru "I'm not in a pack." It was more of a group..or atleast that's what the leader said, and you didn't go against the leader.
Was this a friend of her leader's? She frowned, for some reason it hadn't come to mind that her group would have many friends.
Ignorant Meskeet became wary of this wolf once more. She'd never said she was looking for someone, but it was likely obvious. "No one you'd know." The female was quite sure of it. This likely confirmed she'd gone in entirely the wrong direction to find Audi.
Twiddle ((I have to go after this post. Dx If you'd like you can make a thread in the guild, or even just post in Khalikis journal there, so we can continue. x3))
He raised a brow, knowing the small pup was indeed in a pack, even if they didn't call it one. She was too protective of ehrself to have not grown up with someone elses rules. "Well, I'll help you find them, if you'd like." He said with a slight shrug, as he sat down in front of her once more.
He was a rather large wolf as it was, so to any pup he must've seemed huge. He was normally fairly bigger than the wolves he met, and those bigger than him were quite large indeed.

Cocking her head the pup considered her options. She could think of a few after all.
'If I turn away his offer' she thought. 'then he'll still be around here. I should likely be scolded to let him wander.' Here she frowned. 'Bringing him along he'll be in my sight. Yes, best bring him.' Sighing defeatedly she glanced c**k-headedly up at him. 'He's tall, he'll be able to see farther anyway.'
Might aswell be good about it. "She's not much bigger than me, black white, and with a bit of pink. If you're willing to put up with it all I would mind your help." Some company was better than none, and if he truly was any trouble atleast she'd be around to try and contain it.
All that was left now was choosing a new direction. Narrowing down the areas she'd already explored, and those Audi would be most likely to go in, the brown femme chose what seemed to be the best path. Branching to the left from their current position she began to wander around, yet again, in search of someone who for all her luck wasn't even doing something wrong.

Khaliki watched as she contemplated what to do, and the sight brought a smile to his face. This pup needs to learn how to play and... just be a pup, He thought, shaking his head. He was glad to hear her say he could come along, and he smiled, his tail thumping the ground a few times.
He stood and followed her, sniffing the air for any trce of another pup. He didn't sense nor see anything, and he hoped the other pup wasn't in any danger.
"Is this lost pup your sibling?" He asked, as he looked around. He hated walking in silence when he was with another wolf, even one so young as Meskeet.

Padding along dodgily Meskeet grimaced. "Not even close."
Silence didn't bother the pup, in her opinion only her questions were meaningful enough to fill a gap. Keeping Khaliki talking however might prove to be useful. "Where'd you come in from?"

Khal looked to the pup, and his gaze averted to the mountains at the West for a moment. "I came from over there," He said, motioning his head in the direction of the snow capped hills. His eyes glazed over for a moment, but he shook his thick fur and pushed the memroies that constantly plagued him away.
"When did you last see her?" He asked to change the subject.

Fure: Ignore this. xD Just keep posting, luff. <3 Werewolf (( I can XDD Since, I have my message 83! ))
A noise leapt up from somewhere between the edges of a small grove of trees. It was a snap- quick, and sharp in the afternoon, and it quickly was followed more a series of loud, thumping crashes. A few small animals that had been hidden scurried from view as the crashing noises became louder with each thud. And then, from between the trees a small, and lean buck bolted from beneath the winter capped reeds.
It wheezed with a snort of warm mist, and quickly changed his direction, leaping a sharp right. He soared- but the hastiness of his decision had allowed for a miscalculation. The deer fumbled and connected sharply with the side of one of the trees, and the creature made a sharp 'wheep' as the wood clawed at him. The feeling of the wood clawing at him shocked his movements and he stumbled, frantically flailing the end of his hooves into the air in hopes of catching that which was perusing him. But the shadow which had fleetly moved across the brush in lieu of the deer had already crossed to his left, and no longer lay within the path of the deer's sharp hooves. The buck stumbled, but righted himself in time to turn and face the creature after him- and for a moment they seemed to look at one another before the buck wheezed, jerked, and managed to propel himself up a narrow ridge and on top of a flat limestone rock. It scrambled and hoisted itself up, while the dark shape below licked its lips and decided to give it a rest.
It had not been that Phib was particularly hungry at the moment- the opportunity had simply presented itself and he had not been able to resist the chase. Winded, he panted and sat, watching the spot on the rock where the deer had vanished. He could have followed chase, but it was unlikely that he would catch back up now. He did nothing to disclaim the fact that he was in fact an arrogant creature- but he also saw little logic in expending his strength after a clumsy chase. He held his logic in a much higher regard then his pride.
Faintly, the black beast swallowed and shook his head. It had all been good fun though, the adrenaline from the run left him somewhat jittery and exhilarated. His fur was still half bristled and fluffed, and he had to stretch to contain the energy which was still pounding through him. He swallowed again, and with this inhalation, in swallowed a thick smell from the woods before him. His head rose steadily and he shifted, the corner of his ear docking somewhat. Another figure in the shadow- but it was faint now and he felt only the presence. Tingling, he flicked his tail upwards and padded towards the direction of the scent, his pale eyes somewhat wild with what remained from the hunt. Beat Fu ((Hmmmm I'll go with Hati I think...)) The soft sound of scratching echoed a bit in the trees as the silvery wolf relaxed for a moment to relieve an itch that had hidden itself behind her ear. It was a pleasant enough day, Hati supposed, and she was feeling rather lazy. Not particularly uncommon for her, but not an everyday occurance. She certainly looked the part at the moment though, a back leg half-heartedly scratching and eyes partialy closed. She realy had nothing to entertain herself. She had eaten recently, her bird was off doing who knew what, and she hadn't met anyone new. Or anyone really.
She was growing bored of it really.
With a whumph of a sigh and an easy movement her largish form stood, and she turned her head around to study her surroundings. Nothing too interesting. The same surroundings as the last time she had looked. With a shrug of defeat she walked off to the west, not sure where she was headed.Twiddle His ear flicked slightly, as the sound of footsteps reached him. The male's large tan head turned, and to his surprise, he saw a familiar form. Not something he was used to since leaving his pack. He noticed that it was the wolf Phib, and without thinking his tail thumped the ground a few times.
Khal stood and padded over to Phib, the only wolf he had met here that he could call a friend. Sort of. He smiled to the other wolf, and bowed his head in greeting. "Well met, Phib." He said with a nod. "I'm pleased to see you again." He obviously told the truth, his uncontrolable tail thumping the ground once more, making clouds of dust rise around it.
Khals nose went to the air suddenly as a scent came to him. A female. Odd, that was exactly what had happened the last time they met. Khal, Phib, and a femme. Khal pushed the deja vu aside, and concentrated once more on his current companion. Werewolf The brute shifted, the corners of his ears carefully swiveling as he considered slowly the status of the forest at this particular moment. There were scents on the winds now- more clearly then there were before, and his heart was still thudding from the chase. It left him wired, and feeling rather... giddy? Perhaps that wasn't the appropriate word, but he certainly was jazzed. And amused enough to quickly skirt through the woods on the heels of the smell on the wind- but he had been following Hati's when a voice struck him out from the surrounding terrain. At once, he flanked and turned, his sharp green eyes flinting in the pale light. A familiar looking older male stepped forward, his tail somewhat swaying. The old king furrowed his brow for a moment, considering, before he arched it in a curl and trotted forward, generally looking rather pleased despite the typical flatness of his expression. "Good afternoon, Khal." He remarked, rather secretively smug that he had remembered the name. He had a habit for remembering obscure things, and he would have hated for that to fall through just then.
"And what might you be doing in this area today?" He remarked rather amiably, although Phib became somewhat distracted for a moment as the smells of a creature heading westward caught his attention- particularly because they were female, and he was near hard wired to picking up the scent of that. This smell however was about as familiar as Khal's, and he chuckled somewhat as he sat himself down. No reason to move- and, his left leg had started to hurt him from the run, and he had no intention of giving that away.
"You seem to attract female company." He remarked, somewhat placidly as he turned his head back, although despite his stern expression he did look pleased for the company. Beat Fu Hati tilted her head as, despite the unhelpful wind, she caught the scent of other wolves. She sniffed for a second, a bit annoyed that the breeze was not more useful to her at the moment, before discerning at least on of the smells. It was Phib.
Happy, at least, that she now had something to do, she headed in the general direction of the scent. Phib was the first wolf (not counting that silly thing that masquraded as one) that she had met here, and she had run into him almost as regularly as Ran. It was a pleasant thing to not have to re-introduce yourself. However, it was becoming evident she would have to do the whole introduction thing anyway, despite her lazy attitude today, as Phib was entertaining company. As she came within sight she caught the some of Phib's conversation. Figured. She almost always heard such things from him. She was might have to start thinking him a bit of a lech, although the very thought of it made her chuckle inwardly.
"Hello again Phib," she called to the large male, her voice level, carying easily in the quiet. She was close enough now that she didn't need to raise her voice, "and greetings stranger," she added, directing her attention to the other, older wolf. She hadn't met him before. She would have remembered because he was such natural colors, which was as odd in these parts as neon wolves. She was actualy begining to really apreciate the different coats that she had seen. It made her feel so worldly. Twiddle Khaliki chuckled at Phibs comment. "I'm afraid my luck with the females has been rather... nonexistant of late." He said shaking his head in amusement. "Seems they all flock to the youngin's like yourself." He grinned again, watching as the female approached.
Never before had Khal seen so many different coat colors. His old pack was made of all earthly colored wolves, none harboring any colors as bright as dark red.
Khal pushed the thoughts aside as the femme greeted Phib, and then himself. He bowed his head low in greeting. "Greetings miss." He said with a smile. He turned back to Phib, "I've just been wandering around here. Mostly trying to get something to eat. I haven't eaten in about two days, I think." He said with a slight shrug.
He turned once again to the female, his smile never leaving and his kind eyes taking her in, "I am called Khaliki." He said, his body tense. Had this one heard the rumors? He desperately hoped that the others wolves were like Phib, and had not yet heard about Khaliki the Cub Killer, the wrongful nickname he had aquired. Werewolf Phib chuckled somewhat as Hati arrived, for a moment considering the slight flicker of amusement she seemed to reach from his prior comment. It was true, he did enjoy female company. He liked it a great deal more then male company- not to say that he was displeased by male company either. Perhaps it was a fault of the blood- certainly, women had been Hrothmund's downfalling. But he did not view women with the intent of husbanding certain thoughts in his mind- for he truly was most devoted to his mate. But, this disregarded, he still enjoyed female company.
"Young?" Phib sputtered for a moment, although he certainly did not mind the compliment. It seemed in a woods full of younger wolves, he spent the majority of his time being the elder wolf. He did not deny the fact that he was now well into being middle aged- but it did fluff his ego to consider himself still rather youthful. He gave a slight deep chuckle over the idea, and nodded his head towards Hati. "Hello there, Hati." He spoke. He was perhaps about to say something more to her, when his face somewhat slackened and he glanced over to Khal, his ears slanted forwards in a slope. "You haven't eaten for two days?" He spoke sternly, his voice now a bit more flat and diplomatic. He had always had a rough voice- but flattened it sounded almost sharp. It had not occurred to him that perhaps the elder wolf had not been with others- but now as he came to think of it, he scented no others on the wolf's pelt. "Surely you are not living on your own?" Phib remarked. Beat Fu ((was drawing XD;;; )) Hati nodded in a courtly fashion to the older wolf. His name did not ring a bell. She didn't really feel the need to introduce herself further, however, as Phib had already called her by name. She stood near the two other wolves and allowed them to finish their conversation. After Phibs sharp comment, however, she found herself confused.
It did not seem to her all that uncommon for a wolf to be alone, but then again, and elder wolf without a pack was a little strange. Usualy by the time a wolf had reached middle age they had either found a pack or died. Which was a sharp reminder to her.
'Note to self: Eat rabbit Clean paws find packmates'
She thought to herself sarcasticaly. The thing was, she didn't actualy feel close to all that many of the wolves she had met. She figured it had to do with her way-too-high ideals and previous pack problems.
Snapping out of her self-induced reverie she noted that the other wolf hadn't answered yet. Good, she hadn't been spacing out for too long.Twiddle ((*rolls back in* Sorry, had to go for a bit. xD;; *laughs* I wrote 'hit' at first. xDDD *headdesk* Yer not a druggy Twidz! XDDD))
Khal raised a brow at Phibs comments. Surely lone wolves were not strange here. In fact, he had already met a few himself. He Nodded a little to Phib. "I am. Though it isn't that strange, is it?" One thing Khaliki didn't want was to bring attention to himself.
"I don't have anyone to travel with, since I'm fairly new to these lands. I have met only a few wolves, and I've been lucky enough to not run into a vicious pack leader or member. But, I can fend for myself quite well, although I appreciate your concern." He bowed his head a little to the dark male, to confirm his words further.
Glancing back to the female, and wanting to get the attnetion off himself as fast as possible, Khal said, "It's pleasure to meet you, Miss Hati." It was obvious to anyone that Khal was a polite old wolf, and he respected females as much, if not more, the same as males.

The mountains? Well, how surprising could that really be? It wasn't unlike wolves to travel great distances in search of food.
"Early this morning. Not so early, but early copmared to now." The day seemed to drag on.
It was remebering this that Meskeet recalled something that might help. "And she fell..on a rock, scrapped her leg." Perhaps if they could catch scent of her blood.

Khal nodded a little. "Keep a nose out for blood as well then." He said, his voice had changed slghtly. There was a faint trace of sorrow and regret in it now.
"Where are your parents?" He asked, once more changing the subject.

Meskeet looked advertedly at the brush beside her, pretending to have no interest. "It doesn't matter."
She'd have asked the same thing had it not been childish. But it was, which would only slow her down. Adults didn't seem to ask other adults where their families were, so the pup wouldn't either.

Khals head turned to the pup, and he raised a brow. It was odd for a youngling like her to not know, nor care, where her parents were. Unless of course they passed away. He thought maybe this was the case, and his ears sank in sympathy, though he said nothing on the subject.
It seemed like changing subjects was his best quality as he spoke again, "I think I can smell something. This way." He said, tilting his head to the right, and trotting off that way. He did indeed smell something, though he wasn't sure if this old nose of his was just making him smell something he wanted to smell.

Indeed he was rather good at changing the subject and the pup perked a bit. Had he really found her? And so quickly? Perhaps he was a good one to bring along for these types of things.
Following him Meskeet searched the air for the scent he'd found.

Khal trotted along, his nose held high to catch the scents on the breeze. He caught a faint trace of blood on the air. He perked up little, and started forward once more.
But the duo was dissapointed to find the source of the blood. It was a wounded deer, who took off as fast as he could manage on his hurt leg. Khal turned to Meskeet and sighed. "Sorry. Let's keep looking."

The pup sighed inwardly. This wasn't helping much, but there was a chance it still could. So silly to think she'd been spotted that quickly.
Still, musing around here was better than doing nothing. It all might have gone so much quicker if she was alone. It was curious to Meskeet that someone could have so little to do that they'd be able to search around for a puppy that should make no difference to them.

Twiddle ((Moi? Sure! XD))
As the sun began to set, dusk enveloped the land and cast that familiar, eery darkness over it. Khaliki wandered through the thick, old trees of the forest, his coat blending in well.
The old wolf let out a sigh, his breath becoming a white plume of smoke as it left his mouth. He hadn't realized the loner life would be so.. well, lonely. He missed the company of other wolves, and even though he had met a few through his wanderings, he missed the love and loyalty of a pack.
Trying to cast the thoughts from his mind, he sniffed around the forest for something to eat. Baneful Sigrid liked to be alone. In that state she didn't have to care about anyone bar herself, which suited her state of mind just fine. If she went hungry, it was through nothing but her own incompetance, and she had no one to reprimand for it. The dusk was a pleasant point of the day for her, where daytime surrendered it's brightness to the tendrils of night.
She paused for a moment in a clearing to watch the sky turn that faint beautiful red hue, as if blood had poured across the clouds.
A smirk wound it's way across her face, and, tilting her head back, she let out a long sobbing howl. She rarely howled for any other purpose except for the hell of it, after all she had no territory of her own, nor a care to challenge another wolf except from to it's face.Twiddle Ears twitched and flung forward as the howl eased it's way to the old wolf. He cocked his head to the side slightly. With a swift, graceful movement, his nose was in the air and he was answering the call with his own.
As his howl faded, echoing across the land, Khal wondered if he would ever find a pack again. He knew his trust had been almost completely diminished from his past ordeal, and he knew that even if he did get a pack once more, he wouldn't trust them completely.
The old wolf let out a heavy sigh, as he awaited the answer to the call he gave, welcomg and not wanting to hear it at the same time.
((So sorry for the delay, coloring. xP)) Baneful (( No problem ^_^)) Sigrid hadn't expected an answer to her howl but that wasn't to say that when the sound reached her that she wasn't pleased, no, far from it, the spiteful female positively loved to encounter other wolves out here, it made her day.
Her smirk took a more earnestly nasty twist and she sent out an answer howl while at the same time setting out at a steady jog towards the location of the other wolf. As she drew nearer, she followed his scent, noting now that it was a male she sought.
She made no attempt to hide as she approached, well aware that even in this low light the blues of her pelt tended to shimmer slightly against the sandy hues of her undercoat, instead she maintained her sort of lolloping gait, not effeminate in the slightest, her head held low, tail held high, arrogance emenating from every pore.
Still an adolecent, she acted as though the world was her birthright.
"Hello there." she grinned. Twiddle Kahliki was a bit surprised as the young femme trotted up towards him. He bowed his head respectfully in greeting, as he did with any wolf he enountered, young or old, male or female. "Greetings."
His old eyes had lost no luster in his time on the planet, they still held a youthfull expression in them. Now, they took in the arrogant youth with a bit of amusement in them. He resisted shaking his head, as he remembered how he was in youth. Exactly the way this one was.
"I heard your call." He said, as if it weren't obvious, "It's nice to see another." Baneful The adolecent took in the appearance and age of the other wolf with a sort of delighted glee, elder wolves were useful, oftentimes they had something to teach, something to pass on that would strengthen her in mind or skill. Of course there was only one wolf who she honestly gave a damn about the opinion of, but it didn't do her wrong to listen to what she chose from others.
Sigrid was of venomous demeanour but she wasn't stupid.
"Indeed, you forget what your own voice sounds like out here on your own." she spoke, her own tone cold. "I'm Sigrid." She was often very grudging about giving her own name, but she decided that it was the only way to get respect from other wolves, how could they respect someone without name.
"What do others call you?" Twiddle Every time Khaliki heard that question, a small shiver of fear passed through him. He prayed that this youth hadn't heard of the horrible, untrue rumor of Khaliki the Pup Killer. He hadn't met anyone yet who had, although he had only given his true name to two wolves. He prayed as he spoke.
"Khaliki. It's nice to meet you, Sigrid." He bowed his head respectfully once more, though his eyes scanned her face for any trace of surprise or fear at hearing his name.
((Ugh, small post. xD; Sorry.)) Baneful In Sigrid's world there was one name that mattered and that was her own, not even her siblings held as much value to her. She hadn't heard of Khaliki before but would have disregarded the rumours even if she had.
Sitting herself down she grinned like a snake and purred "So where were you heading? Out for a hunt?" she wasn't adverse to employing help in bringing down larger prey, while at the same time possibly learnign how to refine her manic hunting style. Twiddle Khaliki was relieved when she remained the same, not making any motion that she had heard of him. "Oh, well not really. I was just wandering about. I pick on smaller prey, these old legs of mine aren't what they used to be." He said with a slight chuckle. In reality, he couldn't have been further from the truth. He was as agile and quick as he had ever been, and he could take down a small deer alone with ease. He was large, larger than most, making him a fairly good hunter. But, his wisdom outweighed his strength, and he knew that taking on a deer by himself, even while he was fit and strong, was a dangerous task.
"What about you? Surely you're not out here alone." He asked, sitting down and watching her with his wise old eyes. Baneful Sigrid eyed him critically, not sure wether to believe his words, his pelt looked healthy, his build looked lean and well muscled, she had seen old wolves who scavenged on the dregs of the forest and none had appeared as this male did. She didn't buy it. "Age has it's toll." she replied cryptically "But I doubt one makes it to any age without learning something of the world." What she had learned in her relatively short time in this world, was that any wolf was game to be manipulated, used as a stepping stone and left by the wayside, she would do anything for strength. "You look well for a bottom feeder." she added with a knowing grin.
"Me? Oh I am very much alone out here, that's the way I like it." She didn't mention the fact that she still often returned to the den, not fully detached from her mother and siblings, why give up such a good thing for nothing? "I am more capable than most my age and other wolves just slow me down. I come out here to hone what skills I have." Twiddle ((*waves to UB*))
Khal nodded a little. "You're rather wise for your age. But be wary, don't let yourself be caught up in the greed of power." He could see it in her already, and he knew his words would be pushed aside, but it was better to speak them than to be silent.
"Ah, yes. Solitude is good. To a point." He smiled a little, his head tilting to the right slightly, "And what skills might those be?" He asked, wondering if hunting was what she was referring to. "Maybe this old brute could help you a bit." He said, really only offering his help so he could spend more time with her. He didn't want to be alone again for a while. Baneful Sigrid's grin widened ever so slightly, revealing a little more of her fangs, this wolf was perceptive indeed to be able to see into the depth of desire within her, where every single nerve cried out for the thrill of strength, of power where a simple word would make others turn and pay attention to her, fear in their hearts. Oh it was much too sweet to give up simply for a warning, she could die in her quest for recognition and would regret nothing. No, she was much too far gone to hear the wisdom of Khal's words, all she heard was flattery and a jealousy that she might one day be stronger than he. "I'm in control of that at least, my actions are more metholodical than hasty." A lie. She acted on instinct and nothing but, playing her life by ear.
"My skills? There are quite a few of them but hunting is the one which needs most work, I'm not afraid to admit. The fine art of death dealing is one which needs honed well to be truly effective." as things were she hunted like a lunatic, pushing herself too far, attacking her prey like a rabid lunatic, it was effective in that it oft resulted in a success, but inneffective in that she sustained many more injuries that way.
"And help would be welcome, age has wisdom and despite your "old legs"" she grinned "I wouldn't doubt you have something to teach." Twiddle ((I have to go, sadly. xP I'd love to continue another time though! <3))
Khal returned her grin as she spoke, and he chuckled. "I would be happy to help you with that." He said, knowing that if he helped her hunt then he would get some food out of it as well. "Tell me, how do you go about hunting now?"
He needed to know if her skill was in ambush, strength, or the chase. He preffered ambush. Baneful Sigrid shrugged "I just wait until I'm near enough to charge and then...well, I do. I usually just aim to tear out the throat or break the neck."
Sigrid chasing you down was never a fun experience, the female didn't simply charge her prey, she put in an insane amount of effort, claws tearing up the ground, tongue lolling, every muscle pushed too far. She almost looked rabid when she was involved in a hunt, wildly scrabbling for a gain in distance.
The result of this hunting style was that she often hurt herself as much as she did the prey, slamming into it with such vigour. But still, often the terror she incited was enough to give her leverage.
"I'm not good over long distances." When you expended that much effort, it was impossible to be. Twiddle Khal eyed her a little. "I'm going to have to teach you the fine points of ambush." He said, standing up. "Have you seen any herds around?" He asked, his nose in the air and sniffing.
He had known she was too forceful with hunting already, but wanted to be sure of his assumption. The older wolf knew that if she learned how to be an agrresive and a cautious hunter, she could do some real damage to anyone. Baneful Sigrid nodded, for the moment taking the other's advice willingly, he actually seemed genuine in his intent to give her a paw up. Useful. "Well, I'm pretty sure I scented a deer or two back that way a little. No idea how far away they'd be by now."
She loved being able to fend for herself, hunt for herself, it was a joy tinged with potential, she knew that hunting was a blade honed to eat with but one which could be turned on others when it was sharp enough. Twiddle Khal nodded back to her, and without another word he trotted off in that direction. He kept his head high, making sure his nose was up so he could catch any scents that might have been carried across the cool breeze that played with his coat.
As they went farther into the night filled forest, Khal wondered if teaching the younger wolf about hunting was a wise idea. He knew she was strong, and wouldn't give up on anything, so he figured it was better to be on the good side of her, instead of the bad.
Not long after, Khals keen senses picked up a faint trace of a deer. "This way." He said, motioning his head to the left as he walked that way, his pace quickening only ever so slightly. Baneful Sigrid smiled quietly to herself as she moved in the pawprints of the older wolf, her usual odd gait apparent in her movements, she walked strangely, somewhere between alpha posture and omega, her head low to the ground, her tail held high. She wasn't too good at being quiet however, her footfalls too confident to be cautious or muted.
She nodded silently in response to Khal's directions, saying nothing of her gratefulness to his experienced nose. She could pick up scents, sure, but she was only gradually learning the finer arts of tracking. Twiddle As the two wolves walked, the scent of the deer became much more clear. Khal turned, making sure they were downwind of the herd, as to not frighten them away. He lowered himself to the ground, his expertise in the subject of hunting showing as he made no noise against the grass.
Turning his head close to hers, he spoke in nothing more than a low whisper. "Now, you see that one? With the limp?" He asked, motioning towards a doe that had a bad limp, an old one that made the perfect target.
"She's who you're going to go after." He said, watching the younger wolf with his old, kind eyes. "But don't rush out at her. What you do, is get as close as you can to her, without making a sound." Khal had heard the younger wolfs steps as they neared the deer. That was one thing she needed to change. "If you give up the element of surprise, you're done for. Then, go for her neck, as you would normally, so you won't use as much energy trying to tackle her down." With that, he backed up a little, and motioned for Sigrid to try it. Baneful "Okay." was her whispered reply.
It was odd how self-concious having another wolf watch you hunt made you, Sigrid noted, as she switched to stealth mode. Normally, she would have run almost right away, too tense and eager to wait out the hunt. But since the point of this hunt was to learn new methods, she heeded his words. Slinking down close to the ground herself, she began to edge nearer and nearer the doe, her breathing shallow and quieted, her footsteps as painfully careful as she could make them.
It was a nice feeling to be able to get nearer and nearer her prey for a change, the scent beginning to fill her world with it's strength. The world seemed to slow to a lazy crawl as the blue female slunk closer and closer, her chilly yellow eyes fixed on the doe.
Once, she could have sworn she had messed up, the doe's ears perking and her nose testing the night, but no, she was fine for now, if a little shaken by the start.
Then, finally, she was sure that she would get no nearer and she entered a familar territory, the mental springs wound, her muscles tensed, and, with a massive expenditure of energy, she cracked into motion like a thing possessed. All that mattered was the hunt, the chase, to feel the blood ebb away in her fangs. Her pace and expression was manic as she lunged towards the deer's throat. The doe panicked, ran, scattered the others, but Sigrid was determined, she let out a frustrated snarl as time after time her prey ran aside. She even almost stumbled and fell with her wild charge, only just catching her balance.
Then, a mistake was made, the doe made a wrong swerve, Sigrid punished her soundly for her mistake, her gaze only finally averting from her prey as her eyes closed against the force of her bite. Then, with a thump, wolf and deer tumbled to the ground, Sigrid refusing to let go of the struggling animal, kicked now and again by the flailing hooves. No deer told her what to do though, and, with a growl, she shook her head, severing the artery. It was done.
With a tired pant, she sat back from the doe and looked over at the male who had accompanied her. Trying to catch her breath she asked
"That....any....better?"
Indeed, this time she seemed more intact after the hunt than ever, and for once, she caught something!
Twiddle Khaliki watched intently as Sigrid crawled towards the doe. He could tell she was being extra careful, and he smiled to himself. She was a good student.
As the deer hit the ground and let out it's final breath, Khal wandered over to Sigrid and gave her an approving smile. "That was good. Still needs improvement, but it was good." He saw great potential in the femme, and knew she was bound for great things. Whether they be evil or good.
"Enjoy your kill, you earned it." He said with a soft smile. Although his words held no enthusiasm, they overflowed with pride for the younger wolf. She had done well, much better than most would have done. The old wolf felt something stirring inside him, although he couldn't place a paw on it. Baneful It meant more than she could articulate to actually receive some sort of approval or praise. It was one of the things she had hounded after since her birth. To hear other people acknowledge her efforts, it made it worth it. Still out of breath, she flashed the other a genuine grin and stated. "I'll get better, just give me time and a field in which to hunt." and that much, at least in her own mind was true, the blue female would practice until she dropped to get better at the things that mattered. Even as a cub she had been driven sometimes to the point of frustrated tears at her own flesh's inability to match the enthusiasm she felt in her mind.
Her smile changed to a victorious smirk as she realised that she had somehow managed to fell lunch as well as learn that stealth was equally important as force in the hunt. She took a bite or two of the still-warm deer before pausing and looking over at Khal, a sort of grudging expression on her face. She was loathe to show manners to anyone she considered her inferior but to those who taught her new tricks, she was grateful as her attitude would allow.
"Interesting. Thanks for making me think about technique, it's something I wouldn't have considered. Before today if you'd told me being quiet was important, I'd have told you to follow your own advice and go away."
She smirked "Good thing I actually made a point of ignoring my initial instincts." Twiddle Khal laid down about five feet from her and her meal, his mouth watering at the sight of the deer. He resisted his hunger though, hoping beyond hope that she would let him have a taste when she had her fill.
A light chuckle escaped him, "You're very welcome. You have a lot of potential, kid, and you can put it to good use if you learn how." He reurned her smile and aimlessly licked at one of his paws. "Don't hesitate to ask me anything about hunting, or anything else for that matter." He said, his eyes not on her as she ate. He knew it would make his stomach gurgle louder for food. Baneful Sigrid was selfish but not one to drag a half eaten carcass around with her like a security blanket, as soon as she had eaten all she could, she stepped away from the deer and stretched decadently, curving her back and curling her tail. "I intend to put every ounce of energy I have to use, I wouldn't have it any other way."
She casually padded a short distance away and sat herself down, licking the blood off her blue and sandy coat, it had a tendency to stain otherwise. Only when she was content with the state of her left paw did she look up and c**k her head slightly towards the abandoned corpse "Feel free to help yourself, your knowledge helped bring it down."
As she watched for his reaction, she smirked again and said simply, "You seem a veritable well of knowledge, much more useful than, say, my siblings."
The idea of asking any of them, particularly Rhesus for info, was amusing in itself.
