I'm getting the 8 spoked wheel on the small of my back, and the four noble truths in sanskirt surrounding it.
And for the longest time I was thinking about getting the heart sutra tattooed on my back. Then I changed my mind when I found out how much that would cost, almost 500 dollars. ah yeah... No...

I plan to get Avalokiteshvara's Mantra, the Dharma Wheel (Wheel of the Law), and possibly (much later) Vajrasattva's 100-syllable mantra.

I know this is pretty sad but what does "Om mane pedme hum" mean? I only recently became Buddhist.

Literally translated, "om mani pedme hum" means "the jewel is in the lotus." Sometimes it's translated as an exclamation: "Hail the jewel in the lotus!" It means that the jewel (wisdom and compassion) are already present in the lotus (the mind), so there is no need to look outside for these things. You already have the capacity for wisdom and compassion, so you do not need to gain it, it's already there for you to find and cultivate.

There is always the Wheel. Simple, beautiful, and elegant. Plus can go in numerous places on the body, depending on how big you want the tattoo.

Well I dunno I think that tattoos are a little weird, but if I got one it would be the four truths in sanskrit on the back of my left shoulder.

Hope this helps. Piece together the sanskrit syllables, to get the words "om mani padme hum", for those of you that were interested. smile

Hypomanic Poet Zoutout No idea. Maybe one of the Buddha himself? I'm wanting to get an ouroboross tattoo on my chest. I was also considering getting the four noble truths in sanskrit written somewhere on me. Can't really decide on where. Oh, good idea! Can I steal your idea? sweatdrop Since reading your post, I've been trying to find words like "awareness" and "compassion" and things like that in sanskrit but I cant find any. Any ideas? wink How about the name of the Buddha Of Compassion, Avalokitesvara? Or is that too long to fit on your body?

Hypomanic Poet haena_nights26 get "Om mane pedme hum" tatooed across your shoulders. thats what i would do. Thats what I was thinking, but I'd get it done in Sanskrit. And somewheres other than my shoulders (although that's a good idea) because I already have a tattoo of the Kanji symbol for spirit on the back of my neck. The Sanksrit and the Kanji would look ood next to each other. Maybe across my stomach. Or on my arms. I just need to find a picture somewheres of "Om mani padme hum" in Sanskrit. Which is why God invented Google. There is no God. -AM
