Kaden is browsing about Nuan when he wanders into the local alchemist's shop. The only customer, Kaden is offered a chance to see something eccentric and is led downstairs to Amerald's basement. There, the old man tells Kaden to pick a gem. Once the fisherman picks up the onyx crystal, Amerald leads him back upstairs to talk and have a drink.
Laced with something, the drink soon causes Kaden to pass out and start snoring away on the couch while Amerald plucks some hair and retreats to his lab, leaving the fisherman in the hands of Annabelle.
