Sati slid the ring on her finger again, the brilliant green feather laying lightly on the back of her hand. She was home now; a small apartment above a bakery that smelt like toast most of the day. Luckily she didn't mind the smell, and she burnt incense cones anyway when it got too strong, preferring the scent of sandalwood. She examined the ring, tracing a finger over the design and went into her bedroom.
The ring with attached feather was put on her dressing table, a heavy piece of furniture with a mirror. It was covered in exotic carvings, and she ran her hand over the bumpy wood before going over to her bed and sitting on the edge. She pulled out the piece of paper from her top with the shop address on it, and fell backwards, her head landing on the edge of her pillows, the paper falling discarded at her side.
She stretched, her toes wiggling as she did so, shoulders digging into the quilt. She let out a long sigh, opening the jar of salve that she'd still had hold of and sniffing at it. It reminded her of the shop..of Amerald, and of course the strange covenant she'd entered into with him. If that was the word for it..she supposed it had to be, what he was doing was considered wrong by the authorities - she could get in trouble. He could get in trouble, and she wondered what would happen to the girls he had made. Nothing good.
His secret was now her secret. Well, life wasn't interesting unless you were living a little bit dangerously..and of course there was the fact that she was going to be a mother, which was a wild thought in itself.
'I shall have to put away my books.' she mused to herself, putting the cap back on and sitting up, her falling around her shoulders in waves. She had a collection of old copies of the Kama Sutra, she collected them because they were beautifully bound and illustrated..and of course informative! But not something that a child should see. She got up and left her bedroom to do just that..

Diary Entry What's the date today? It's August anyways..can you have a blonde moment when you're dark like I am? I suppose it's possible as I can't remember the date. I know the day obviously, that's easy..I didn't buy a paper today, that was probably why. I often don't, the news is always the same, and virtually always depressing. Who needs that?
Anyway, today went mostly as usual; morning lessons, gossipy mothers, the occasional hopeful father turning up to pick up their daughter/s in the lingering hope that I might just fancy a married man. Even the divorced ones have this faintly desperate air, always a huge attraction for a women when a man just radiates hope that you'll stop them from being lonely - or at least prevent them from having to attempt dating again. I just smile politely and send them on their way.
After I closed up the studio, I decided to find that little alchemist shop that a few of the mothers had spoken of. It didn't take too long, and it was pretty much as described, along with the attractive proprietor. However, not one of the mothers who had said about it mentioned anything about him being a proper..slighty mad? scientist. Maybe they thought I wouldn't believe them, heck I still don't believe what happened there and it was happening to me!
Amerald, for that was his name came out with what has to be the strangest proposal a man has ever made of me. He wanted a strand of my hair in order to experiment with it and make me a child. As I'm writing this it still doesn't register properly that I agreed to it, I'm not sure what I was thinking at the time. Sure I can teach children, but a full-time mother? Maybe I let a handsome face and a sense of adventure run off with my good sense. I suppose I shall just have to see how this one pans out.
Oh yeah, it's the 6th..
