POW! (gun firing)
THE GRUB DIG HAS BEGUN AND THE TRASTS ARE OFF! Good luck you guys! Please note that the grubs will not be hidden in the threads until after the minimum amount of posts are made. Go ahead and start roleplaying. We will post another notice after the grubs have been hidden!
Have fun! Sorry for the delay.

(And they're off! Don't mind me if I get this started.)
Quartz stood on a small grassy ridge looking over the land of grubs. The recent rain and in climate weather had kept her away from Amicus Agri. But now that the storm had passed, she felt refreshed and energized. The rains had washed the air, and everything felt clean, smelled fresh. She wiggled her toes in the still damp mud and was about to make her way to the grub lands when her ears snapped up.
"QUARTZ!" she heard her name as Mar came running up. "Don't see you very often." She was panting, having been running freely across the lands. Mar looked out to the flat lands where Quartz was heading. Her amber red eyes scanned the open plane before she looked at the pink female again. "Going grub hunting?"
"No, I'm going on a picnic." Came the sarcastic reply. "Yes, I'm going to look for a grub, Mar. You're welcome to come along." With that, Quartz began to trot over the soft, wet earth. Mar followed close behind.
"I don't really have a need for a grub, I don't think. I mean, I have friends." This brought a sharp look from Quartz before she stopped and reached a paw up to the back of Mar's head and pushed the white trast's face into the mud. Mar sputtered as Quartz walked on. "Aw, don't be like that. I was only teasing."
"I'll have you know I have friends." Quartz offered calmly. Well, at least one... maybe more of an acquaintance... she thought to herself, thinking on just how few others she had gotten to know. She had only really met Dach, and Ferrous briefly. Both rather collected trasts, and she could respect that. Her thoughts were interrupted as Mar dashed ahead and stuck her nose in a hole in the ground.
"AH! I smell something! It smells like a one of those little fuzzy things!" she started pawing at the earth a little. "Here little squirrely squirrel." Mar was onto the trail of a ground squirrel, or perhaps gopher. Quartz wasn't sure the difference. They were both burrowing rodents that made some areas of land a danger to run in as a paw could easily slip into a burrow and twist badly.
But she wasn't about to stop Mar from having her fun, and simply slipped on ahead to the grub lands. She didn't smell anyone else yet, so she decided to let anyone who may be here know that she was here, and let out a low howl, her large ears twitching in every direction, wondering if there would be a reply.

She was ready. Ready than she would ever be. Even much before the gun went off she could feel her heart rate rising higher and higher. The Trast was very much on edge right now, she feared that if a sound much like the sound gun going off would send her running ahead, leaving others in the dust. Though she was very much sure that the others were feeling the exact same way she was. She waited impatiently and it was showing, she would sit down, then get up, walk around then sit back down. It probably was not only annoying her, but others. She just wanted to run. Sumire put her hoof down rather hard, stirring the ground below.
Again she sat, trying to keep herself calm. From sitting she laid down, dirt mixing with her white fur. Hurry up! Sniffing the dirt with her pink nose, she thought that maybe she could get the upper hand before the dig, sniffing out a grub. She was really looking forward to finding her own friend that would follow her around, sniffing it out from here was all but pointless. There was also the chance that the others in the dig would get to them before she did. Disappointment would probably surround her for a slight bit, but heck, what could she do? You had to stick your nose in the right spot and well, dig and hope to some higher power that you would be lucky.
With dirt covering her wet nose, she took the hoof to scrap it off. Then most unexpectedly there was the gun, going off. It had caught her off guard, giving the white Siberian tiger coloured Trast a jump. She quickly scampered to her feet, taking off in a direction, looking for a grub to find. The race was on!

It had been a suggestion from the Boss that he come down here, really. One given several days ago, in fact. But it had been stewing and boiling in the back of his mind until finally he'd decided, what the heck? Not many Trast had grubs, and it would be work to find one, but that was what made it worth the trouble wasn't it? It wasn't easy. Dachion had been called lazy (among other far less pleasant things) but it wasn't true. He just had different ideas of what was worth a struggle. Whatever those outside Lacertosus might think, living in that canyon wasn't exactly a picnic most of the time.
There was a low howl in the distance out on the plain, someone who sounded familiar though he couldn't put his hoof exactly on who it was right away. He returned the call none the less, only to be startled a moment later by a loud sound from somewhere in the distance and the sound of other Trast causing some sort of hullabaloo. Well Ferrous had mentioned something about some of the packs making a big annual event of the grub search during the prime season.
This meant two things of course. He had both the best, and worst, timing in the world to come down here for this. "FFFFF." Most of the other packs were leery at best of the Lacertosus, so that could make this a lot more difficult than it needed to be. Just... great. At least it sounded like there was one friendly face out there somewhere, anyway. He supposed he'd best get his nose to the ground and get started...

Quartz's ears swiveled like radar dishes towards the return howl. So there are others here besides me. She mused, deciding perhaps she should check out the competition. Besides, seeking out this other trast would be a good way to keep away from Mar, who was more likely going to scare off the grubs. The more distance she put between her and the natura female, the better.
Quartz lifted her nose and let the smells of the other trasts come to her on the breeze before her lip twitched slightly. Mmm, that's a familiar scent. she mused before trotting off towards the respondent. She stopped a moment when her toes sunk into the dirt more then normal. She eyed the extra squishy dirt a moment, sticking her nose into the indentation. It sure did smell... grubby. But the scent was old. Probably a grub that hid just after the rains. She sighed. Having found one so fast would have made this whole adventure... well, easier. She sneezed, sending partials of dirt flying as she pulled her nose from the earth and thought about why she was here.
Why AM I here? To find a grub... but why? She pondered this just before she saw a massive green trast some distance away. Her golden eyes narrowed mischievously and she padded as quietly as she could around behind him, doing her best to stay down wind of him. When she felt she was close enough, she turned her back, and began digging furiously, hoping to shower the brute with dirt.

There. That scent was semi-familiar, sort of like the Boss's grub. This soon after the rain it had to be fairly fresh, or he wouldn't be able to pick it up this well. Maybe?...
Dach set to digging, though somewhat carefully. Grubs could be resilient, but they were still kind of... squishy, after all. Wouldn't do much good to find one if he accidentally squished it to death.
He'd dug quite the little hole by the time Quartz spotted him, but to no avail. Seems like the grub had just passed through here, and while that meant he might be able to track it if he was tenacious enough about it, it simply wasn't here now...
Head shoved down in the hole as it was to try and figure out which way the grub went, of course Dach didn't notice Quartz. Well, until she started flinging dirt at him. Suddenly having his backside pelted made him jump and try to jerk his head up, only to smack it into the side of the hole quite soundly. He winced and extracted himself with a bit more care, uttering a rather loud expletive as he did so.
The culprit was a very familiar pink female. "Quartz. So it's you, huh?" All at once he shifted back down to send large wads of earth flying back in her direction, purposefully making a mess in as wide an arch behind him as he could manage. Friend or no, Dach wasn't one to back down from a challenge! Unless it was a stupid challenge, maybe. One of those ones that made everyone involved look stupid no matter how it turned out. Yeah, he hated those.

Ahicandra lazed about on the soft grass, stretching his large limbs out as far as they could go before giving a content sigh. What had brought him to this vast expansion of grass again? 'Oh right. Grubs.' He closed his brilliant orange eyes and let out a large yawn, a smile just barely revealing his pearly white teeth. There was such nice weather today...it could easily make one forget what they were doing. Laying on his back in a semi-awkward pose, Ahicandra contemplated various things, such as the cloudless sky, the texture of the grass, the hum of the distant insects, before again reminding himself he had a small, squishy friend to be seeking. Rolling on his side he noticed the various holes that currently scarred the landscape.
Pity, really. Humming some random tune he made up himself he stood, but not before properly stretching out. Nimbleness, it seemed, was an important aspect in this race for the small familiars after all. Watching the familiar mist (invisible to all but him and other Animus members) swirl around his front legs for a moment as he went he decided the best place to start looking...was right in front of him. Sitting he idly bent down to examine a rock that had been overturned. 'Hmmm what could this mean...' He pondered, playing detective for a moment. Had a grub overturned this rock? Or just a fellow Trast, who seemed to be somewhat sparse where he was located? He stared intently, almost comically so, at it before promptly loosing interest.
With a dramatic sigh he put his nose to the ground and began to walk forwards, wondering what exactly a grub smelled like. So engrossed with this thought and the smell of grass beneath him, he nearly bumped into a fidgety white and black Trast who seemed to be on something. Or just ridiculously eager to find a grub. Studying the stranger curiously, he contemplated the time that would be wasted talking to her and not looking for a grub. Ah well, it seemed unavoidable. And perhaps an alliance would be quite valuable. "Excuse me." He said politely, as he HAD almost bumped right into her.
He put on a charming smile and skirted around her in one graceful, nearly whimsical motion. Flicking his ears backwards in concentration he tested the hardness of the ground by gouging it a few times with on hoof. It wasn't soft but it also wasn't necessarily hard either. "Hmm. I have absolutely no idea where I'm going or what kinds of signs I'm looking for. But if you don't know where you're going you can't get lost, can you? But if you don't know your signs...well...I guess you're in trouble." He said resolutely, more to himself than the female nearby. Talking to himself wasn't in the least bit out of place to Ahicandra, as he was prone to such...odd behavior and more.

"Why yes, it IS me." She retorted. "Who else would it be? I thought you could use a little help. You smell to much. You needed an earth shower!" She barked out a laugh before slightly yelping. "Hey, no rocks!" Ahw stopped showering him with dirt and leaped to the side, taking a few bounds to get out of Dach's wide dirt spray.
She shook herself of some of the loose debris before licking the spot the rock struck her rump a couple times. Her tail was wagging slightly, and she was actually kind of glad to see a familiar trast. One that wasn't a pup.
Or Mar.
"Didn't expect to see you here, Brute." She half laughed, lowering her head slightly. "Didn't take you for the squishy friend sort of trast." She raised her head again and trotted around more in front of him, pausing, her ears twitching and she tilted her head to the side, looking away from Dach. "Oh, that's just another Trast pawing at the earth. Darn." She sighed before looking back to Dach. "Of course, I can't blame you for being here. Who wouldn't want a little minion... er... companion... Grub. Just have to find a hot trail." She sauntered past him a couple steps and rooted her snout in the dirt a moment before looking up. "Near as I can tell, something migrated by here. The trail was old back towards the east." She paused, wondering why she should share that information with him, then shrugged. "That is, if you want to believe some friendly findings. Maybe you're already hot on the trail of a grub."

Dach snorted and straightened up when he caught Quartz moving out of range from the corner of his eye. "You think I can tell where all the rocks are when I'm doing that?" He plopped down on his rump facing her and lifted his nose into the air in a mock-snooty fashion. "And just because I like squishing hyoomons doesn't mean I can't have a grub. Grubs aren't evil bastards that steal our pups and try to turn them into beasts of burden and who the hell knows what else. Grubs are just fine by me. 'Sides, Boss has one." He shrugged.
Dach sniffed from his hole over to where Quartz was. "Well the trail I have seems to be the same one. Guess we get to see who finds this one first, eh?" With a grin and a playful shove he darted off with his nose to the ground to see where the trail led.
