Gee, I cant believe there is an argument happening in here! I dont know what to do in this case so Im going to give my opinion, then let Elf make the final decision.
I love Christmas! I love the gifts, of course, and the food too, but mostly I love the way my family and friends gather together and all the laughter and love we share is remarkable, but on that one special day of the year, it seems even more special! We light candles to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we go carolling sometimes, we exchange gifts to show the love we feel for others, we donate to various organizations to help needy families, all in the name of love! Christmas is special to me for all the reasons above, plus many, many more! As others have said, Christmas is mysterious (wondering what is in each gift with your name on it!), exciting (shopping! Yay!) and probably the most wonderful holiday of the year! I agree with my mom, those of you who do not celebrate Christmas dont have to participate!
"Christmas avi contest" is just a title, it doenst mean you have to celebrate Christmas just because you dress your avi up... its just something to do for fun! And Christmas is only one day of the year, winter lasts for months! Please dont take the special-ness of of the season!
Now that thats over, I need to say... all avis have been updated to this point! Thanks for playing everyone!
EDIT: It look like Ingou posted while I was typing! Lol! Anyway, whatever happens, I have given my opinion, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens! Elf, its your call!

LOL don't stress out, Gothic, I don't think anyone is upset or anything.
Of course people are welcome to enter avis that are "winter" themed or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa themed. I don't feel like we need a separate category for them, people are pretty good at voting based on the avi quality in the anonymous tektek contests. But if we have at least 5 non-Christmas entries and they want their own category, we could do that. If not, we can just run with it like normal!

 I wasn't upset or anything like that. I just kinda' felt attacked. o_O;
I thought I brought up a valid point, but I hadn't intended on it creating a debate or anything like that, nor to put you on the spot or in the hot seat, Gothichearts. My apologizes ^^;
I'll tinker around with my inventory and have something within the next few days

I really appreciate your speaking your mind Ingou! You definitely make a good point! If someone feels left out, it's hardfor them to say that, so most of the time they will just be silent and remain an outsider and I do not want that! I don't want anyone to feel excluded or maginalized and if people submit a good avi with a description explaining how it was their own holiday or belief I think they'd do well. But we have celebrated a whole slew of other holidays that are specific to a group of people. Thanksgiving, Halloween, 4th of July, Easter, St Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day. XD Holidays are part of our culture and they also give us a channel that most of us are familiar with for us to celebrate together. Now, instead of trying to limit the use of words like "Christmas" I want to try to encourage open-ness and expression. Let's try to include potential variations on our avi contest themes and everyone, please remember that you're free to submit your own take on a theme, or even a related theme! Just please include some description if you do, so that we can vote more fairly. Edit: I found Last year's results and though Pannyx won with a Christmasy avi, Ingou and Lunar tied for second with winter ones. ^_^

Well, we could have holiday-related avatars this month and more wintery ones next month, instead of dividing them into different categories if we get enough entries. Off the top of my head, I can't recall any certain holidays in January, so that work out...?
I'm sure a majority of our clan members celebrate Christmas, though I wasn't sure if anyone celebrated something else this season, so I thought I'd point the contest title out. As I mentioned, I didn't really want anyone to feel left out or feel like they would have to sit this one out. *Shrugs.*
I'm fine with Christmas avatars, but at the same time, we're going to end up seeing a lot of the same items, that's why I tossed in the challenge round idea. For people to use the traditional Christmas colors (Red, green, white, gold/silver, etc.), but not have any items that are directly related to Christmas by description, item name, or when they given out. Again, it was just an idea and I'm not pushing anyone to do it or anything ;3

Yeah, I'm kind of sad, Californ-ia08 suggested doing avis to represent the 12 days of Christmas, which would have been cool. I still feel like we should throw that out there as an idea, like a Patridge in a Pear Tree. XD
Maybe we should have a mini-winner for the most *creative* avi so that it doesn't all go to the best mix of all the Christmas items.

Ingou, there is actually a holiday celebrated in January. It's called Three Kings Day. I think you can pretty much guess the idea behind the name. x] My mother celebrated it a few times with me and my siblings when I was younger.

My personal holiday is Yule/Winter Solstice. The only reason I celebrate Christmas is because my family does. smile
I don't mind if the title is Christmas because I understand that I'm in the minority and for something like this, I'm okay with that. biggrin

Oh, I don't believe I've ever heard of Three Kings Day. The only holidays in January I could recall are New Year's Day and Martin Luther King Day. I figured it would be a bit difficult to do contests for those. *Shrugs.*
I'd like to enter my current avatar in the contest. I was tinkering with my inventory when I came across the Spring Nymph head piece and thought that was fairly festive, so i made an avatar around the headpiece XD
I tried not to use any event items from past Christmas events, but in the end I used a couple of them to equalize the white from my hair. ^^;;

Yeah, not a lot of people have heard of three Kings Day. xD I don't even celebrate it anymore. I don't really celebrate Christmas in real life either but I enjoy participating in the events here on Gaia.
