I've dropped my clarinet downstairs once, when it was in the case. Actually, it wasn't so much down the actual stairs as off the second floor landing and straight onto the first floor. Amazingly, nothing was broken. I think I need whatever technology is in that clarinet case for my bike helmet.

My most spectacular drop was last year at an away game, when we were marching up to the stadium. I was jumping around (this is a legitimate part of our march-up, okay?) and somehow the top half of my clarinet came loose and went flying into the air and landed ten feet away on the pavement. The side keys were all bent and I had to fix them with pliers when we got up to the stadium. D:

Psycho Sabs
During a football game in jr. high someone dropped their trumpet. When we were on the bleachers.

a senior did that once with his alto sax, like nine benches up. Our band director freaked.

How do you all end up dropping your instruments? Falling on them is believable, but I don't see how the rest happened. =/

I've never dropped any of my instruments nor have I seen anybody drop theirs. One guy did fall with his trumpet, though.

The only bleachers incident that happened at my school was very small. Somebody dropped their new fancy trumpet mouthpiece down by accident - twice. XD

Other times mouthpieces have flown out of brass instruments when going to set. I imagine that's a very common problem. It actually happened to me. The section leaders were trying to make us go to set with baritones to somehow make going to set with our trumpets better. When I did it the baritone mouthpiece flew off and hit me straight in the face. sweatdrop

Cybele -Por Siempre-
Not down stairs, up them. A freshman in our clarinet section was walking up the stairs to the main level of the school and someone pushed her. The clarinet smacked on the concrete stairs and the cork on the middle part broke off. Not just the cork, but the place at the top where you attach the barrel is gone. We're making shirts that say "clarinet mafia: you break our instruments, we break you."

That is going to be one awesome shirt. smile

#1 RULE OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC: PROTECT THE INSTRUMENT AT ALL COSTS!
Instruments have feelings too. They are family. T crying T
I have played 14 instruments and only dropped my flute once.
God forbid I drop a steel drum ._.

The used flute that my mom bought me was broken past use. The wind had blown over my stand, and it wouldn't play any of the major notes. It sucked.

Once, in middle school, my two friends and I were playing the flute in band class, and then all of a sudden we heard this loud crack. My one friend and I look over and start cracking the hell up, because our friend had gone to lift up her flute and whacked it on the side of the stand. There was a huge a** dent in her head joint after that, and none of us could stop laughing long enough to play for the rest of the class. It was just so funny, we were like, "WHERE THE ******** DID THAT COME FROM?!" Good times...

I didn't drop my clarinet down stairs, but I accidentally throw it all the time. It always slips out of my hand.

Wow, I've been around for a lot of instrument injuries. There was the trumpet denting in seventh grade, the tuba denting in eighth grade. Two years ago, this guy dropped his mello on its bell and it crumpled. At band practice last year, the bottom part of my clarinet fell off. (It scared the crap out of me.) At the last competition this year, my mouth piece fell off my clarinet and broke. When I was taking the bell off it broke. Both events horrified me and all surrounding clarinetists...even the ones that weren't in my band. At a football game one of the snare drums ripped (the part you bang on? I don't know what it's called, I know nothing about drums) the day before a competition. And, oh yeah, at band camp a piccolo was run over by a fire truck.

Moi.

While standing atop the stairs, i didnt realize one of the latches on my flute case was unopened.

Well, as i stepped on the first step, my case flew open, and its contents flew down 18+ stairs.

Couldnt play the thing for 2 damn weeks cause it was in the shop.

mad

We've had a tennor sax and a piccolo fall down the bleachers.
Tears ensued.

I really haven't done much to my clarinet. My friend knocked it over and it slammed to the ground breaking my mouth piece. It had a huge hole in it -.-"

My friend our last football game dropped her clarinet through the stands. She was pissed to an extent, but when she got it she came back out of the stands and was like "MY CLARINET IS REALLY DURABLE." im like "Is there anything wrong with it?" shes like "Well the key is really bent in and the barrell is chipped but its all good"
