They wont for the PS2. They may for the PS3 since it is the next gen consol and they are phasing out all games for the PS2. So you better make sure that you get to the next gen consoles shortly.

PS3 is getting yelled at by pretty much everyone to drop the price. Their making stupid plans to over take Xbox 360 sales by like 2013, when most likely there will be a new Xbox. Anyway so yeah the price will probably be dropped in the near future which doesn't change the fact that 360 is still better in most ways.

Brief overview of the three systems.
There is a proven trend out in the public for each system and there are facts that show which system is the best.
While overall the PS3 is a better system by all for the price (Blu-ray player is around 299.99 for a good player) the Xbox is close in terms of its abilities. The Wii is the most affordable and more innovative. Just lacks a lot of the kick the other systems have.
PS3- 1080i/p resolution. Highest processing power of the three. Blu-ray player incorporated into system. Up to 8 controllers able to connected at any time. All controllers are wireless with six-axis motion. Free online play.
Xbox 360- 1080i/p resolution. Slightly slower processing power of the three. Basic DVD drive incorporated into system. Up to 4 controllers able to connect at any one time. Pay for online play.
Wii- No high def resolution. Slowest processing power due to using same processor from the gamecube. Up to 4 controllers able to connect. No dvd ability. Completely wireless internet connection. Ability to download hundreds of older games. All controllers are wireless and fully motion sensitive.
Out of all of those it would seem the PS3 reigns supreme. You are paying for a far better Blu-ray player than most that are out there and therefore you are really only paying one to two hundred dollars for the PS3 system itself. But the consumer has really decided how those systems do.
The consumer has really dictated that...
Xbox 360 is the online multiplayer game system. It is also the system you would want for multiplayer games in general.
PS3 is the system you want for sports games, and online one-on-one games. Also for fighting games, racing games and movies.
Wii is the system you want for families along with the workout games and teaching games. It is the most affordable for any family with a low income.

They are using Cell technology and the game companies actually are just now really starting to get into production on a mass scale. The technology was so new that only a handfull of gaming companies really had anyone trained to write software for that technology. Sony does not need to go and do what you said, they are just a little ahead of the times. 360 has gotten the majority of that problem fixed, but their consol is so limited for what it can do that it is actually starting to hurt itself. Wii is the weakest of the three and they have even admitted that. They also had no intention of making it any higher in terms of technology. They wanted to get away from the technology wars and go with the something for everyone mentality and make it fun and inovative in the process. You may bash the system, but that system is worth its cost more than the other systems.

360 has a lot more games though and is a lot funner, in my opion, than the Wii and PS3.

The Wii may only have some games for it specifically that you can buy for it on disc, but it is able to download all the classics and then some. PS3 is limited just because the technology is now catching up to it. Most likely by the middle of the spring next year, it will be the far front runner. Xbox 360 was the first out of the next gen consols so it is only natural that it has more games out. It is more fun because it is better multiplayer, but the PS3 is starting to catch up.

Well I like the Wii better than the 360(Note I have both),I did play the PS3:to me it comes down to tastes sad
But in reality all consoles have weaknesses.
The Wii with it's Shovelware.
The 360 hasn't fixed the RROD yet.
The PS3 not enough Party Development Games(this is what the 360 and the Wii have that's why I can only name about 5 or 6 games)
