I have the basic plans drawn up now. I would like everyone to look over these, see if anything needs changed, make suggestions for alterations and additions and all that. Tell me what you think:
Command and ControlThe BridgeThe
bridge is the command centre of the entire station. Most of the senior staff can be found working here. From here the officers can manage and control all of the station's daily operations. The bridge large and circular with a variety of command stations. The captain's chair is at the heart of it. A doorway on one side leads to his ready room. A doorway on the other side leads to the turbolift.
OfficesThere are a variety of
offices found here. Every senior officer has their own office, personally arranged and decorated. Lower level and civilian personnel can apply for a personal office, or can borrow one temporarily. Management and command staff often have offices here.
ObservationThere is a large
observation lounge with wide windows, allowing station personnel to view local stellar phenomenon and events. There is a long table surrounded by comfortable chairs here and the lounge is often used as a conference room.
Tactical and WeaponryPhaser arrays and photon torpedo tubes ring the station at this level. There are small arrays dotted over the station. These are strictly for defence in case of an unexpected attack. Torpedo bays can also be used for firing probes.
Habitation and RecreationQuartersThere are a wide variety of quarters available. The largest of course belongs to the captain and the other officers. All of the upper level quarters have windows. Crew quarters for lower ranks are still very comfortable, however they are often in the inner rings and frequently lack windows. Guest and civilian quarters are spacious and luxurious. Guests and civilians may choose an outer windowed quarter or an inner windowless quarter for preference.
All crew and guests can select from three main varieties of lodging; single habitation, double habitation or family habitation.
Single habitation is designed to suit people who live alone. There is a living/dining space with replicator, either a dining table, desk and comfortable seating. There is plenty of space to accommodate various hobbies. A doorway leads off from this room to the sleeping area, all of which have a bed wide enough for two. There is a small hygiene facility in an alcove.
Double habitation is the same as single habitation, but larger to suit a couple.
Family habitation is the same again, but larger still. Families can apple for a double bedroom, triple bedroom or on rare occasion quadruple bedroom variety, with each small bedroom being outfitted to suit a child or other dependent.
Every crew member or long term resident is welcome to decorate and modify their personal quarters to suit their needs.
Small pets are allowed, if well controlled.
The CircleThe circle is a unique facility often used as a central meeting point for the entire station's population. It is a massive area, set on two levels. The upper level overlooks the lower, forming a pleasant balcony and promenade for walking.
Circle BarAt the heart of the circle is the Circle Bar. As its name suggests the bar itself is circular, in order to serve the entire area. Multi-coloured neon under-the-bar lighting sets a festive mood. Staff clad in green tunics are always happy to serve a wide variety of mixed drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic as well as hand or replicator prepared food. Many of the chefs are well versed in the native foods of various species, so just ask and they shall try to meet your requirements. Bar stools surround the Circle Bar all the way around and the immediate area is populated with numerous circular tables and chairs. It's a very cheerful and easy going place, good for meeting others and relaxing. Families are welcome.
MerchantsBoth levels of the circle are host to civilian merchants selling a wide selection of items. Small shop fronts line the circular walls with small market style stalls dotted around. Civilians may set up their own stalls, provided services and products sold do not contradict Federation laws.
HolodecksThe station is equipped with a dozen holodecks that can be booked for personal use. Due to their arrangement around the circle they are often referred to by clock positions. The Twelve O'Clock and Six O'Clock holodecks are large enough to accommodate several hundred people at a time, with the other holodecks being suited to smaller groups. As such the Twelve and Six O'Clock holodecks are often used for official functions.
SchoolingChildren are catered for, from nurseries and daycares up to Academy applicants. Children of all ages will be well cared for and educated, taking a lot of stress away from their parents.
AtriumThe atrium is a peaceful garden, set away from the hustle and bustle of the circle itself. Many different kinds of flora and fauna can be viewed and interacted with here, making it a popular place to relax, study or even take a quick nap. There is even a decorative fountain set into the trees.
SpaThe spa is located near the atrium and has several service available, from professional massages to beauty and hair treatments. Crew and guests can come here to be pampered and relax. Try the mud baths.
Sports FacilitiesAlmost every kind of sport can be played somewhere in the recreation decks. Everything from fencing to martial arts, gymnastics to dancing. Some, such as equestrian sports, are still unfortunately confined to the holodecks.
TemplesSeveral races, species and denominations have set up temples near the atrium.
Science and ResearchScience, Research and Dedicated LaboratoriesThere are many different types of
research and
scientific laboratories located in this section of the station. There are many permanent and dedicated laboratories, such as the
astrophysics lab and the stellar cartography, as well as hundreds of smaller labs that can be outfitted for various sciences. Crew may book laboratories for their own research and experimental needs, as can guests and civilians. Permanent lab creation needs to be cleared by the chief of sciences, or the captain.
Library ServicesThe station's computer and library systems can be accessed in the science section at all times. There is also a dedicated library for hard copies such a notable books and optical media. Libraries are open to all station inhabitants and visitors.
Cadet TrainingThe station has a large training facility for Starfleet Cadets. Young cadets in training can learn many disciplines here as part of position placement, away from the main Academy on earth. Skydock One is infamous for producing many of the highest skilled young scientists and pilots in Starfleet.
MedicalThere are small
sickbays here, suitable for minor injuries and illnesses. There is also a large hospital that is big and well equipped for major disasters. There is a medical library here, separate from the main station libraries.
Specialist medical facilities include paediatrics, geriatrics, physiotherapy, maternity, surgical, cardio-vascular and psychiatry, among others. The medical and health needs of everyone, of almost any species, is catered for in some fashion.
SecuritySecurity OfficesSecurity staff can be found here. When on duty and not patrolling this is where the security staff come for training, assignments and to wait.
ArmouryThe station has a large armoury of hand-held phasers and phaser rifles. There are also some bladed weapons here and confiscated weaponry. No one may access the armoury without suitable security clearance or an escort.
BrigsThe
brigs are high security holding cells for criminals and those under suspicion. Every inmate's needs are taken care of suitably, but the spaces are small, large enough only for an averagely comfortable bed to sleep and sit on. Each is protected by a high level forcefield and when occupied a guard is usually stationed to watch the prisoners.
Docks, Hangars and CargoThere are eight docking arms arranged in a ring around the docking area. Each can connect to a large vessel to accept guests or supplies. Beneath and between the docking arms are shuttlecraft bays and hangars for smaller vessels to berth in. The station has a fleet of ten small two-man shuttlecrafts, one eight-man craft and the captain's yacht. Small shuttlecrafts can be borrowed by crew and civilians.
The cargo bays store cargo. There are many of them, all very large.
Transporter systems are managed from here as well, with several small transporter rooms dotted at the base of the docking arms. Large amounts of people and supplies can be transported at once, in case of emergency.
EngineeringAll of the station's
vital systems can be managed, repaired, enhanced and powered from the engineering section. A massive
power core sits at the lowest level and stretches almost to the highest, providing steady and reliable energy to the entire station. It needs constant maintenance, so the chief of engineering and their crew can usually be found here. It's all very complicated.
The entire station is accessible with the various turbolifts, well laid out and brightly lit corridors and network of Jefferies tubes. There is a vast warren of vital station systems that most people never see.
