Melody's eyes light up, but then suddenly her face seems to fall.
Oh...
Well.
She's happy for them! Really, she is! But... but if she knew there was a wedding, she could've sent a gift or at least a card...

Feelings of awkwardness begin to swarm about him.
Ah...no, there was no wedding, he admits. He and Baikou had come to the decision that they were a bit beyond such things at this late date. And that it was best to simply let things quietly be as they were.
....and besides, HAD there been a wedding, Melody certainly would have been invited.

At this, she brightens considerably.
She KNEW she was right when she told Baikou it was okay to be optimistic! She just KNEW it!

Hitsuga blinks at her, finally allowing himself to come fully to the top of the stairs.
....he was....erm.....unaware that she and Baikou had discussed this eek

Oh, um ...
Melody once again takes her seat at the table.
Maybe a little bit...

He hesitates, as if trying to decide how this ought to be reacted to, and...
....at length he joins her at the table, offering a smile.
Well, it all worked out for the best in the longrun, he believes. ....for the mostpart, at least.
But... he makes a dismissive gesture at the air. Enough about him. How is Melody doing? Better, he hopes? 3nodding

Much, she confirms. Except now little Eiji and Tsubaki's teeth are coming in, so they're uncomfortable a lot of the time, but at least Melody can HELP them with that, right? So really, she thinks, everything is going to be okay.
Though she's had a couple of other things on her mind, lately...
Like maybe going out more or... well. Melody doesn't know. But even with kids, she doesn't really feel like a GROWN UP, you know? Hitsuga's married now and he has his own shop and even though he's so far away from his homeworld, he's still making his way in Gaia, right? And Melody, well...
Melody still kind of... feels like a kid, you know? Her Grandma June still gives her an allowance, Boyue's guardian supports them, and...
Well, maybe Melody should try to take some of that burden herself.
...What does Hitsuga think...?

At this, Hitsuga cocks his head a bit, folding his hands over one another on the tablecloth as he seems to consider what she's asked.
He certainly does not think its unreasonable, he ventures. Especially if Melody feels it would help her to grow and become stronger.
And he does not blame her, finding living off of others to be uncomfortable. When he had first come to Gaia, and was still living on Madame Phaerna's good graces, he had felt inconsolably guilty about it all. Though....he imagines his situation differs from Melody's a bit as he'd lived on his own prior... sweatdrop
Is there anything he can do to help...?

Melody doesn't quite know yet, to be honest... She's still not entirely certain what she wants to do.
She'd asked Grandma June about maybe helping out at the café (Or rather, her projections seem to suggest she'd asked about actually WORKING in the café), but she was told that she would need to be able to read and write first.
Which, she admits, was something else she'd decided needs to be done.
But she doesn't really need help finding materials for that. There's always the tee-vee, which she hardly watches, but maybe the children's educational programs could help Melody learn. Not to mention the bright colors and silly characters could entertain the children at the same time. And maybe they'd learn too, and...
She "hmm"s.
She kind of wonders if this is too ambitious. Finding work, learning to read, all at the same time? While she raises two children? Melody almost wishes Grandma June made Daddy learn to read so he could make her learn to read. Then she'd already know how. sweatdrop

A pinkness rises in his cheeks as he redirects his gaze to the tabletop. Well....if it makes Melody feel any better, Hitsuga has not yet learned to read Gaian either. It is something he keeps MEANING to do, yes, but whenever he's reminded of such intentions, he's already become involved in something that requires his full attention and the idea of having to find a good place to begin becomes all the more intimidating... sweatdrop
If Melody has better luck finding a starting point, perhaps.....
......perhaps they could learn from one another?

Melody can't stop the grin from spreading across her face and the sense of profound RELIEF spilling out of her at Hitsuga's admission.
Could they? Could they really? It would make Melody feel SO MUCH BETTER to learn with another grown-up! Hitsuga could... Hitsuga could come over to watch the tee-vee with Melody and the chibis! Maybe they can even make a morning of it, where they watch Walnut Street and eat sugary cereals and drink juice, and Baikou can come too, and they can all learn how to read, and Hitsuga (and Baikou?) could learn about Gaian culture (from a kid's point of view) and...!
She's interrupted by sound of footsteps and the return of June with two picture-menus.
"Is there anything I can get you while you decide? I know Melo has her heart set on shaved ice, but we do serve other things here. Tea, coffee, soda, juice, pastries, ice cream?"

Even as he gives her a nod and an assurance of agreement, Hitsu, behind the slight smile, listens to Melody prattle on about tee-vees and cereal, and involving both their houses in the matter and wonders what it is he's just committed himself to... sweatdrop
June's arrival is a welcome temporary distraction as he looks to her politely and then furrows his brow a bit.
Ahh...well, during their talk on the tele-phone, Melody had said they were meeting, at last, for snow-cones.
And so, he supposes this one will have what she is having. 3nodding

Hitsuga is fine for the moment, but thanks Madame June for her generous offer.
It ended up not being nearly as long a walk here as he feared it might have been...
