Mr. Malaise Wie viel sprechst du? Ich spreche Deutsche so-so. Es ist mein erst Jahr. Ach, ich spreche Deutsch nicht gut. Es ist mein erst Jahr auch. Meine Hochschullehrerin sagt ich lernen schnell. I think I got that right... anyway, my teacher's awesome; she's this five feet tall lady from Morocco (so, I am in fact speaking German with a French accent - not that I mind, apparently they like the French more than they like us these days, and that's saying something). She swears like a sailor, and she's teaching me when I go to tutoring biggrin I'm thinking about joining the German guild here... anyway...

spamhat Ah, coming from Australia I get it all the time. Kangaroos are not awesome national animals. We usually have annual culls to reduce numbers (there are literally millions), and although they can sometimes escape into backyards and onto roads where I live, backing onto a hill, no one keeps them as pets, and they aren't that commonly eaten. People seem to ask about it as soon as they find out where I'm from. Aw, c'mon, next thing I know you're gonna be telling me that you don't wrestle with alligators, commune with the great spirits using Aboriginal shamanic techniques, and seduce American journalists with your Outback smarts and survival craft. That's not true, right? ... right? xd

Some genius quotes from my school:
"You mean they have cities in Africa?"
"They're American? Then why are they, like, poor and stuff?"
"When I moved here, I thought everyone would eat with chopsticks and live in thatched huts..." [note: I live in the Philippines. The native method of eating is with the hands (not chopsticks), and city people eat with silverware. As for the thatched huts...I was 16 before I ever met someone who actually lived in one.]

We have lots of sterotypes here, especially of anyone who looks remotely "mexican" or Polish. Mexicans are used in any conversation regarding manual labor. Polish people are an odd duck here: They are made fun of for being thick, but then they are made fun for being smart... it's dizzying. I'm Polish, but i have red hair. No one believes me when i tell them.
oh, and Ocarina of Time is AWESOME. I played that last year... and i may just play it again becuase it was so great.

well... im mexican... and i just hate how everyone thinks im a hand- worker...
we also are thought to dress as mariachis always, and to hit our wifes and be drunk always...
and... i admit it... sometimes we think of americans as fat, lazy people who only set the prices of the goods other countries produce, and gain more than those countries...

Well, being American, I say most of the sterotypes are true. Lots of us are stupid, hypocritical people who think we're better than everyone else. Most of us are also fat and greedy, yet lie about it. I should stop saying "we" it makes me feel bad...I try and be as un sterotypically american as possible.

Try fitting the sterotype for the teens who grew up at Sci-fi-fantay conventions. I am expected to be fat, nearly illiterate, escapist and believe in kirk. lets see. reality: slightly overwheight (mostly muscle), been reading better than most professors since 5 or 6, agressive/depressive (fits of extreme anger and dispair), cynical to a fault. zero points of congruelence. sterotypes suck.

Lobster.Pants Germany has some pretty cool castles. Tee hee.
But yeah, the most common stereotype about Americans I've heard is that we're all stupid. And a lot of us are. But not ALL. Sigh.
Actually it's not stupid it's fat.
