Abigail nodded. "Well, I'm glad to hear it. Been tryin' to get that effect since I met Hail here." She smiled and looked around. This was indeed Mirisua's home. Hail wouldn't have tracked the wolf incorrectly. If she did, Hail would be beating herself up about it forever. With her pride riding on it, HailWing wouldn't dare make a mistake. "Yup, I guess it is. You say your barracks was next to hers?" Abigail pointed at an obviously empty barrack to the left.

HailWing simply nodded to him in reply to his thanks. It was a step in the right direction to ask questions. It seemed like he was showing more respect to her too. She guessed it didn't take long for the hint to sink in with this one. That was good.

"If that is the one, then just take out your key and open 'er up. You guys'll want to get acquainted with your new home," Abigail said, taking a seat on the ground next to HailWing. "Hail and I'll wait here until you get your stuff situated."

Emi pulled a key from her pocket. She slipped it into the keyhole and turned. "You don't have to wait outside. Then again, the weather is pretty nice today." Emi said happily.

FlameFrost started to walk. I'm going to check out my space, alright? He told the teenager.

That's cool, she replied back as she pushed open her door to meet her stuff. Emi walked inside and started to make sure everything was there.

FlameFrost enter his part of the barrack. When he was inside he stretched a bit, getting used to the feel.

Abigail shook her head and patted her spot in the dirt. "That's all right. It's a nice day, like you said. I think me and Hail'll have have a little chat." With that said, she looked toward the wolf she'd bonded to. She was curious as to what she thought of the pair they would be teaching for a little under a year.

Abigail liked Emi already. She was nice so far that she could tell. She shuddered to think what would have happened if she got someone more like herself when she was younger. That being said, she had a little more respect for her own patron. It must have been difficult trying to train a person like how Abigail used to be. 'So, Hail, what do you think of your new apprentice?'

HailWing looked toward Abigail with an irritated expression. All I have to say is that he didn't start out well. But... He has potential. Her tone was bored and disinterested. Tracking was important, used to find riders that got lost during battle. ...or what was left of them. She knew most wolves looked forward to the fighting more than the basic skills, but it was something they had to learn.

I heard you growlin' at him earlier. What'd he say? Abigail asked, looking to advise the pup sometime later about this, if the growling hadn't been enough.

Forget it.

Emi shuffled through the barrack. Once she got a feel for the place she started to put her stuff away. How you feeling Flame? she asked.

Good, real good. There is so much space! I feel happy here. The red wolf replied.

Alright. So what you think of your new Patron? Emi asked to pass time as she unpacked.

She's a little harsh but I feel like she's a really good wolf to have as a Patron. Anyone could tell that she knows what to do right away. FlameFrost answered in reply. What about you?[/i

How did she feel about Abigail? Let's see, I think I'm going to have an interesting time with Abigail. She and HailWing are like exact opposites. Emi chuckled slightly.

Abigail cocked her head to the side and looked at HailWing. She was smart, sure, but was she really cut out for teaching another wolf. Abigail knew the wolf lacked patience and had little tolerance for stupidity in anyone but her very fortunate rider. She had no doubt that HailWing could do it. If the female wolf would do it was the problem.

When FlameFrost reached a year old, no matter how badly he was taught, he would be expected to know everything and participate in battles. It scared her to think something bad like that could happen, but that didn't change its possibility. If Flame died in his first battle, would there be concequences for HailWing? Abigail rested her head on her bent knees, arms wrapped around her legs.

Then again, Abigail never knew HailWing to fail. If that's what it took, Hail would probably drill the wolf day and night about battle formations. No, there was no reason to worry. Abigail knew her wolf would to the best she could. HailWing's best would never fail.

HailWing looked indignantly at Abigail. Your worry was illogical in the first place. Even if he doesn't learn from he, during battles, instinct will take over. The adult wolf laid down and rested her head on her paws. It is faulty leadership that causes casualties, not lack of strength or learning in the pack. It was easy enough to tell that she didn't think much of any of the current Alphas.

It took more than instinct to win a battle. It took intelligence and cunning, traits that HailWing prided herself on. What stopped her from rising in rank was her size and inherit lack of physical strength. It was true that Stardust was smaller than normal Alphas, but Stardust had had Moonstride's favor. That more than anything was the reason that Stardust rose in rank. HailWing couldn't believe that her vain sister had become the Alpha on anything other than luck and connections through their mother.

HailWing didn't remember much about Moonstride, just that she had liked Stardust more than her and she had been insanely jealous about it. Well, what's done was done. There was no use wondering about it now.

Hey Flame, do you want to become a Beta when you finish your training? Emi asked curiously.

Well obviously! Flame snorted. But, I want others to think that I really did deserve that position, not that I just want the power. The red wolf thought back to when he was in the cave. His mother would tel him stories about Beta wolves. I want to make it to a Beta position and if possible, let's shot for an Alpha position.

Emi couldn't help but to smile happily. That red wolf that she bonded with was always making her smile. Alright, let's do it together. With of course some help from our Patrons and some other Privates. Maybe we might be able to learn some things from one of the Sergeants the teenage girl said enthusiastically.

Thanks Emi! Are you done yet?

Almost, Emi replied.

Abigail looked at the sky. It had been a little while since the start of the meeting. The sun was high in the sky and beginning to head westward, which suggested early afternoon. Keeping in mind that the meeting was scheduled for late morning and that she had been late, Abigail estimated that they had been in each other's company for a couple of hours. It hadn't seemed that long at all. Having a wolf to talk to did make time pass quickly, even when the other companions are indisposed or busy.

Abigail crossed her legs and rested her elbow on her knee, leaning her head on her arm. Thinking of the time, it made her wonder at what time Emi was supposed to meet with.. Gosh, what was that cowgirl's name?

HailWind didn't help Abigail remember. She would let the poor lady wonder for a while. That was sure to keep her busy. She laughed inwardly. It would be interesting to see if Abigail actually would figure it out. Hail had some serious doubts. She looked toward the barracks. It had been a little while since they arrived. Emi should be finished soon. Considering the time, there might actually be time left to do the training exercise she had in mind earlier.

"Done!" Emi shouted from inside her barrack. The teenager stretched a bit then walked outside.

FlameFrost jumped a bit from Emi's shout. He shook his head once he calmed down. Will you try not to do that out of nowhere next time? He grumbled.

Hey, I'm not the one being bothered so I ain't gonna promise anything. Emi went over to the blue wolf and her bonded. "I'm done!" she said happily.

Grr.FlameFrost walked outside to join the others. He sat down next to Emi and Abigail. Quietly, Flame waited.

HailWing watched as the two apprentices walked out from the barracks and sat next to Abigail. Emi had made it inescapably clear that she was finished with her task. It was certainly quick, which led HailWing to believe that they either didn't have a lot of stuff or that they were saving some of the work for later. It was considerate, either way. They must have thought about Abby and Hail having to wait.

When Emi and FlameFrost arrived, HailWing made it a point to sit up and make sure her head was higher than FlameFrost's. She wouldn't be able to accomplish that for long. Because Hail was small for a Gamma, it wouldn't be long before Flame was bigger than her. It would likely happen before he reached the one year mark. In the meantime, she would have to make sure the adolescent knew who was boss.

This brought the training exercise back into her mind. She edited it a bit this time, however. They would hide Emi and FlameFrost would try to track her. It would also be an exercise for Emi to get to know the fort more. Emi would probably be hidden in a tree somewhere and she would use her knowlede of the fort and things she could see from where she was to help FlameFrost find her. HailWing nodded to herself, but she would have Abigail explain it.

Abigail stood up and addressed both Emi and Flame. "Seein' as how you guys are done, Hail figured it best t' get started right away. She has a little trainin' exercise in mind that you two are sure t' get a kick out of," she started, smiling good naturedly toward her companions. "Basically, we're gonna blindfold Emi and hide her somewhere -when you get there you can take it off. And we're gonna have our dear ol' FlameFrost look for her by both trackin' and clues that Emi will give him from where she is," Abigail continued, waving her hands this way and that to illustrate her point.

She rubbed the back of her head. "So, uh, I guess we'll get started right away."

Are you really done with everything, Emi? FlameFrost asked the girl.

Not really. If HailWing and Abigail hadn't been in front of the two of them, Emi would have gotten a face. But hey, I thought you wanted to hurry and became a Beta. Besides, it's not polite to make others wait.

The red wolf would have shook his head but he knew he would be asked about it. FlameFrost noticed that HailWing had straightened herself so that she was taller then him. He didn't mind to much. After all, she was in charge of him and besides, he would be taller then her in the future.

Emi got a big grin on her face when she heard what the exercise. "Alright, we're both ready to do this ain't we Flame?" Emi turned her head towards the red wolf.

FlameFrost nodded his head. He stood up to show that he was more then happy to start training. The wolf liked the idea.

Abigail took a handkerchief from her pocket and held it out, motioning for Emi to move so that she could be blindfolded. 'You sure you wanna do this, Hail? I mean, you're gonna have to do that to hide her.' It had never happened before to Abigail's knowledge and as antisocial as HailWing was, she was surprised that the female wolf was going to do it now.

HailWing nodded. 'It is inconcequential. In fact, I think it would be benificial to the young wolfrider, perhaps give her something to look forward to when FlameFrost is old enough. HailWing eyed the young wolf. Once he reached the year mark he would be out of her care. She was already feeling anticipation for that time. Having this kind of company was uncomfortable. She supposed, though, that it would become more comfortable as the months passed. What she was going to do in spite of said discomfort said enough about her determination in this matter. HailWing wanted this pair to succeed if it was going to have any of their successes and failures on her record as well as theirs.

Emi moved so that she would be blindfolded. She felt her emotions clash. Thoughts were swirling in her mind. Even though she said she was willing to do the exercise she still felt a bit of discomfort. Even so she didn't show it.

FlameFrost noticed Emi's discomfort. You sure you're okay with this? he asked. Even though the two of them had only been together for a short period of time he already knew that the girl didn't like to be looked down on. Because of this she would always hid her feelings.

Emi looked gratefully at the wolf. Ya, I'm okay with this. Thanks anyway for worrying about me.

FlameFrost watched the teenager carefully. He knew that the past had really hurt Emi. He would never allow anything like her past to hurt her again.

Abigail carefully tied the handkerchief around Emi's eyes, making it tight enough that it wouldn't fall off while she traveled. It was going to be a bit of a bumpy ride. "Not too tight, is it Emi? Don't wantcha t' go blind or nothin'." She laughed a bit and led Emi to HailWing.

Hail laid down so that Emi wouldn't have any trouble getting on.

"Don't be nervous. What you need to do is hold on to Hail's fur real tight or put your arms around her neck. She won't bite." Abigail looked to FlameFrost now. "Don't worry. We won't let anything happen to your dear Emi," She said, winking. "You should probably go into the den so that you don't get any clues about what direction they're goin'."

She wondered if Emi would find the situation scary or exciting. After all, the girl had never ridden a wolf before. Riders weren't allowed to until the wolves reached a year old. Then again, maybe Emi was a rule breaker. In any case, it was a task derived by HailWing and Abby knew that that hard-headed wolf wouldn't take no for an answer.

FlameFrost turned to do as he was told. He paused for a bit and gave one last look at Emi then ran.

"Is he gone now?" Emi asked. She held her arms out to steady herself as she swung her legs over HailWing's back. She couldn't believe that she was really going to ride a wolf. Plus, it was on the first day of her training. It was really amazing for her.

Flame paced as he waited to be called back to start his training. He found the exercise to be both awesome and worrisome. The wolf's paceing incressed.

Emi let her leg come down on HailWing's side gently. She positioned herself on the blue wolf's back and wrapped her arms around HailWing's neck. "Alright, I'm ready."

HailWing stood up, having to steady herself when she realized how light Emi was. She was used to a much heavier weight. Abigail really had gained weight during the winter. She started slowly at first, letting Emi get used to the feel of being carried by a wolf, increasing her speed here and there when she felt that Emi could handle it.

Hail thought that half speed was slow enough for Emi not to be overwhelmed and fast enough that it wouldn't leave Abigail and FlameFrost waiting too long. HailWing slowed down before reaching the destination. An abrupt stop would have caused Emi to go flying forward. Quite obviously, they didn't want that. And here they were, at Abigail and HailWing's barracks. Picking another destination risked it being a place that either Abigail didn't know the directions to or a place that would anger other riders or wolves.

The adult wolf wanted to warn Emi to hold on tight, but trying to do so would have been futile. Hail couldn't communicate with this human. Instead, she tensed her body to get ready for the leap and stayed in that position for longer than usual. Hopefully this would be enough to warn the young rider. And then, she jumped to the roof of the barrack, a place not visible from the ground. This way, FlameFrost would have to rely solely on HailWing's scent and Emi's clues.

She laid down again so that Emi could get off and nudged her a bit to signify that they had arrived. We have arrived, she informed Abigail. Now all that was left was to wait.

After receiving word from HailWing, Abigail called to FlameFrost. "All right! You can come out now!" Abigail scratched her head. Why hadn't HailWing told her where they went? She shrugged. Guess she didn't want me helping. She would just have to follow FlameFrost for the time being.
