As Ember burst forth with a sense of newfound speed, or maybe competitiveness, Stardust continued at her easy pace as she deliberated how much of a headstart to give the youngster. She knew she boasted an aerodynamic found that could easily overtake his own considering her longer strides, but also understood that he looked to be growing into a lean build as well.

Riya furrowed her eyebrows as the younger pair pulled ahead. She was competitive and understood that Stardust could win this race, but not if the wolf was acting so arrogant - she knew Stardust was fast, but this was just ridiculous. Any day now...

No need to sound so annoyed, I know what I'm doing, the Alpha female responded with confidence, counting down the seconds. Sure that she had given the male a 5-second headstart, Stardust tightened her own muscles as she bundled the energy onto her hind end. With a powerful spring, she leapt forward as her steps quickened behind Ember.

The progress was slow, but Stardust was inching ever closer to the young male. Her slender form easily slipped through the wind, receiving as little resistance from her surroundings as she bounded forward. Adrenaline rushed through her veins as she allowed the rush of the run to pump her excitement, the cold air biting at her thickly insulated fur. And she could also feel her human's clutching tightly onto her neck.

As soon as she felt the muscles tense beneath her thighs and under her hands, Riya had lowered herself even closer to the wolf's body, adjusting her seat and grip as Stardust bolted forward. The young Lieutenant could feel her own blood pumping quickly, her face flushing red and warm against the cold wind hitting her face, long black hair still billowing wildly behind her. The excitement of the run had her heart racing, just like it did in battle when the pack ran through the woods together - but without the anxiety of potential death looming ahead.

Within a few moments, Stardust had puled up alongside Ember and ran close to his side, her rider's leg nearly bumping into Kael's. But she carefully kept a few inches between the riders, and she sent the male a coy glance as her tail flicked to the side to brush his. Then she burst forward again in another change of speed pulling just slightly in ahead of him and keeping half a body length's lead.

They were now nearing the open fields of the training, a welcome sight ahead of them. Stardust wondered if that would be considered the finish line or if they would keep going and she could steer Ember into a zig-zag run. Not one to admit that she liked the power she wielded over the pack, but the female Alpha loved watching as the wolves behind her ran as she guided them. An ear flickered back towards Ember, waiting to see if he changed his pace.

Ember laughed heartily as she pulled ahead, snapping his jaws in an imitation of how a human would laugh....though his rich voice was hardly audible. Since he knew she would win - the battle, not the war - the competitiveness in him gave way to that kind, fun personality that he fit so well into. His body was slowly growing more and more fatigued as he pushed himself to the limits of his endurance due to the speed at which he was moving, but adrenaline kept him steady in body and mind. Feeling Kael's mental-eye-roll at his next thoughts, the male slowed juuust so slightly, so that Stardust could pull a body-length ahead. With a decidedly smooth tone in his voice, the newly-ordained Alpha spoke.

My my, now THIS is a better view! he rumbled, glancing at both the open fields....and Stardust's swishing tail. Normally, his discretion would keep him from speaking to an Alpha so, but...well, now HE was an Alpha. And there was the whole she-thought-he-was-sexy thing. Because he was sexy. It was simply fact.

Shut up and run, Casanova. Kael responded, her blue-and-purple eyes squinted against the onslaught of winter wind. She wondered vaguely where the finish line would be drawn, or where the two would be forced to stop running. Really, it mattered not. The race was already won, and it was just nice to....run, for a little while. It would be nicer if Ember would stop hitting on Stardust, but that was a little much to ask

Stardust knew she had won the race, but she enjoyed running in the cold wind as the hot blood warmed her frostbitten fur. Slowing her pace to a slow lope, her tongue rolled out in soft pants as she cooled herself down. The rush of the run had her yearning to hunt, but not now - she was a nocturnal creature and liked to hunt in the night. Only common decency kept her from stalking through the fort in the middle of the night, and the fact that there would be very little else awake to entertain her.

You enjoy staring at my tail? she responded with mock surprise at Ember's bold comment, swishing said appendage with a flirtatious implication, pulling her ears back in his direction. A playful growl escaped her throat as she suddenly stopped and whipped her head around to face the young Alpha male with a snarling grin. How about now?

Riya nearly lurched forward as the wolf came to a sudden halt, and she had to squeeze her thighs rather tightly to keep herself balanced. Her hands had tightened even more around the thick winter coat to keep herself from slipping off the side, and she was grateful that it wasn't the middle of the summer. Stardust despise the heat and shed all her long fur then, which gave the Lieutenant very little grip.

Running a gloved hand over the crow's nest on her head, Riya frowned slightly at she found her fingers caught in tangles and knots. How she hated to ride without tying her hair, and yet she couldn't bring herself to remove the lengthy locks - she loved the feminine look. Which brought her to Kael, and she glanced over at the Apprentice briefly. That short hair must be easy to maintain.

I do-wooooah! Easy now! Ember exclaimed in feigned surprise, very nearly chuckling as he skidded to a halt. Come now, I certainly hope you are not angry at me. It's not my fault - I am but a poor, slave-to-the-senses male. Oh, will I ever be free! he exclaimed theatrically, lowering himself to his belly and covering his face with his paws. Hey, if his career as an Alpha failed, he could totally become an actor.

Kael was perhaps never more thankful for her Seer ability than she was at that moment, able to know what Ember was about to do before he did it and avoid being thrown over his head and into the snow - narrowly, but still. Sitting up straight once Elrok's on-the-belly position allowed her to relax without fear of being thrown off, she looked at Riya and caught the mildly distressed look on the fellow-Alpha-rider's face. "Long hair can be a chore," was all she commented, though - were she in a more talkative mood - she also would have commented that perhaps, next time, putting it in a bun would be a wiser decision. Short hair was easier to deal with, but the only reason she kept her hair short, really, was because it was the only thing that looked right with her face. Long hair would make her look foolish, much like Ember.

Heeeyyy...that didn't even make any SENSE, and I'm insulted.

No, you're hyper. And I was just kiddding.

Observing Ember's rather strange behavior, Riya wondered what kind of conversation must be going between the two Alphas. But she had become quite accustomed to hearing only one side of the conversation, as was the case with almost all wolfriders, so she simply ignored the wolves antics. Deciding that the race had ended, she slipped off her wolf and landed softly on the snow.

As her rider dismounted, Stardust relaxed her features and glanced at Ember with an amused look. The young male was so entertaining with his dramatic behavior, and she couldn't help but reach forward and n** at his ears affectionately. Never, she answered with a lustrous growl, standing over him in playful dominance. You shall forever be ruled by the charm that is me.

Rolling her eyes at the wolf's comment, Riya glanced over at Kael's comment. "I know," she answered with a slight groan, pulling at her long hair once again. Riya tried to smooth down her hair but to no avail, and simply sighed as she gave up any semblance of trying to look appropriate. Looking down, she noticed that fur was not stuck onto the insides of her pants - another common occurence, but being the perfectionist that she was, it never ceased to annoy her.

"But short hair doesn't look very good on me. Realized that during an accident involving Damien, my hair, and a pair of scissors," she commented without looking up, too engrossed in trying to brush off as much fur as she could. But the memory of the instant did bring a rather annoyed huff out of her mouth - that had been a terrible month after.
