"Wise already," Cirithil smiled. "I've seen many an Aes Sedai killed because they couldn't react fast enough, or were blocked. It is good to have sturdy steel just in case." He then took a bit of stew. Tearing a peace of bread he turned to her again, "Yet you do not carry the knife...unless you are Saldean of course, but you already said you were from Altara."

"I carry my knife everywhere, except for tonight, and that is beyond my power. It was taken from me by an Aes Sedai, which is why I am out tonight. I have trouble sleeping without my knife under my pillow."

"Ah," Cirithil sighed. He was one with his swords, so knew how she must have felt. He took his knife off his belt. It was short, and usually worn as a back-draw. Its black sheath was of red-oak that had been laquered, and with gold working on the bottom and mouth. The handle was wire-wrapped in steel, and had a small, almost negligible pommel. Its blade was of fine steel, slightly curved at the end, and single bladed. Along the blade was graceful lines. He handed it to her, "A loan, you can call it. Make sure to find me to return it when you get yours back." He gestured to his own swords, "I have enough steel to defend myself quite well anyway." He then broke off a peice of bread, and dipped it in the stew broth. He smiled after eating a bite of this bread.

Aradoa smiled and took the blade gingerly out of Cirithil's hands. She gently turned it over in her hands, unsheathing it and fondly running her fingers along the curved edge. She looked up at him, her eyes shining from the moisture she was trying to hold back. "Thank you," she began, "you don't know what this means to me. I haven't slept without a knife by me since. . ." she cut off looking down into her stew bowling. She put the knife on the table and began stirring her spoon in her stew, not so hungry anymore.

Cirithil laughed, "My brothers always thought me to chivalrous. They said it would get me in trouble one day. But listen, if I know the Tower like I think I do, then you'll want to eat up. They may not use blades, but hunger can hurt as much as an Aiel spear." As if to emphasize his point, his own stomach growled. He laughed, and ate a big spoonful of stew.

Aradoa smiled, and took a bite of her stew. She chewed and swallowed then said "You know this stew is pretty good when it doesn't burn your mouth." She smiled again and took another bite.

"I'm sure its much better than what the novices get," Cirithil smiled, "am I right?"

"I wouldn't know. This is my first day in the Tower and I didn't get a chance to eat until right now." She dipped her bread into her bowl, letting it soak up some of the broth before shoving it in her mouth.

"To be honest, I have not even set foot in the Tower yet," Cirithil laughed, "not the Tower itself anyway. It is amazing to see though. I've not seen the likes since Rhiu--" He cut off suddenly, hiding it by taking a mouthful of stew.

Aradoa stopped mid-bite and looked questionably at Cirithil. He couldn't mean. . .no it's impossible. . .he did mention something about an Aiel spear but. . .nah he can't mean. . . Her pause only lasted a second and she hoped he didn't notice it. She pretended like she didn't hear his slip and continued about the Tower. "It is quite magnificent inside. Maybe I can show you around sometime. I think you'd like it. It's unlike anything else in the world."

"The world is very large, even I've not been to every place," He laughed. He took a sip of water. "Perhaps I will come, but I think that would have to wait until you are an Accepted. As far as I know, novices have little time for guests."

Aradoa smiled. "Well I plan on becoming an Accepted faster than anyone else ever has! Nothing is going to stop me from becoming a full sister and bonding fifteen warders!"

"Then you've already messed up," Cirithil laughed, "I hear the lady Nynave of old was never even a novice! You have the will to advance faster than the rest though." He still had a broad grin. It was not one of mocking, but one of genuine enjoyment.

"She doesn't count! I want to be the fastest to move from Novice to Accepted and since she was never a Novice, she can't be included into that. I wonder how many warders one Aes Sedai has ever had at one time. . ." she trailed off, her eyes getting this dreamy, far-off look.

"I cannot help you with that question," Cirithil laughed, coughing on his stew. He had been in mid-bite when she had replied.
