"Yup, I do. I have a book at home that Dad bought me and it's really interesting..." He finally turned his interest back to the teacher. "I wanted a chemistry set to play with but he said Heiko might eat the chemicals and that would make her sick, and microscopes were too expensive." Laial visibly sulked, rocking a bit on his round, smooth shell. "So I'm babysitting for some of the other kids for extra money... even though I'm not good at it."

"Well, you're always welcome to study in my library," Kay offered, "Or, if you'd like, I could tutor you out of your own home?" It was an innocent enough offer. Before he'd actually landed the job at DCorp, he had been a rich-kids' at-home tutor.

"Really?!" Excitedly, Laial positively lit up, his strange eyes widening and an actual, real smile curving his lips. "Would dad have to pay you anything?"

Kay shook his hand and gave Laial a kind of dismissive wave.
"No, not at all. It would be my pleasure." And, again, Kay probably seemed like a creepy rapist. Really, he was just being gentile!

Delightedly, the nautilus child seemed for a moment about to -pop- with glee, before he finally took a deep, calming breath. Overexcitement wasn't good for you...
"Thank you so much, sir," he said, proudly. "I'll make it worth your time!" Lifting his head, Laial grinned gleefully. He'd be ahead of everyone else, too!

Kay nodded and smiled.
"Well, when you grow, I expect to see you in my classes, hm?"

"I don't know if I get to choose... if I do, though," Laial said, wiggling his toes and smiling contentedly, "I'll choose your classes."

"Yes, you can," Kay smiled, "When you gets your class request sheet, there's a place that says 'I will wait for such-and-such a teacher'. Just write Kaydon Daniels down there, and you'll have me. I will try to learn what you're interested in before then."
He offered Laial a ham and cheese sandwich.
"Hungry?"

The boy accepted the sandwich with a smile, putting down his cup to take it in both grey hands and gleefully bite into it. "Mrmmrmm." Laial swallowed his first bite, licking crumbs off his lips with a pleased sound. "I like fish... and things in the water. Like Heiko and me."

"Of course," Kay smiled, taking out a sandwich for himself. What was that? Watercress, peanut butter, and cheese? Erm...
"I'll be sure to study up on some more fish...probably nautili too. I find them very interesting."

Catching sight of the watercress, Laial licked his lips a bit but buried himself in his own sandwich anyway. "Really? You think we're interesting?" He curled a couple of tentacles around himself, a fidgety habit he had.

"I was afraid to say 'you', but yes. The anatomy of the nautilus is incredibly interesting," Kay said, "Granted, all of the DCorp children are incredible." He had yet to show any signs of the experimentation himself.

Pridefully, Laial puffed with a smile, but when the other said something about all the other kids, he deflated a little, sulkily. "I'm the coolest," he confided.

Kay laughed. Ah, ego.
"I am inclined to agree. Nautili are extremely complex creatures."

"Yup! Did you know I can even hide in my shell, completely?" He patted the front of his shell, smiling. "And I can breathe underwater, too." Laial bit into his sandwich, smiling again.
