Thanks.” Toulouse said after a moment. At least the girl was telling him the truth. He valued that. “I suppose there is more to humanity like you say, but I can never see it.”

Toulouse opened his eyes again just staring at the inky black sky listening to himself breath and letting the dark pulsing aura of the egg wash over him. He wondered what was inside. He always did. The very idea of the eggs fascinated him…however, where he felt a bizarre kinship with the egg of Pasayo, so he felt a distance between the other egg, B’Elanna? Pretty name though.

I’m fine.” Toulouse sat up slightly resting on his elbows, surprised to see Fumei hunched back on her heels looking at him. “And, I don’t like women.” Toulouse never wanted to accost another woman again as long as he lived. Never.

"Haha, sometimes humanity is overrated." Fumei grinned, taking a seat next to Toulouse. "It's not like they're the only ones around, you know? It's a bit arrogant to be talking about a species being an adjective."

Bzz bzz.

"I am not rambling." Fumei grumbled at the egg, before turning her attention back to the boy. "Well, I'm glad you're fine though." Worry was worry, but the boy did seem to be fine. After all, he did seem to hold that sword no problem. Well, that was his burden to throw away. As well as his welts to keep.

Still...

"Not like women?" Fumei made a face when he said so. "Man, I keep getting shot down." With a mock gesture, she put her right hand over her heart with a melodramatic sigh. But when she looked at Toulouse once more, her genuine laugh colored the air. "You don't seem the type to laugh with me, hm? Share my heartbreak, perhaps?" Another smile laced her lips as she wondered about the boy.

"Come now, what is your name?"

Why? If one could only be described as human it would be…it would wonderful.” This escaped Toulouse’s lips in a sigh. How lovely it would be to be called human. He would give everything he had for a single mediocre life of mortality.

Toulouse fell onto his back again with a melancholy air. He was becoming so sad as of late. Was it because of Julien and what Toulouse had promised him? Was it just for Julien himself? Toulouse didn’t know. Maybe if was the thought of being found out. He wasn’t sure what he would do if the Queen’s guard showed up on his doorstep asking for his life. Run, he supposed. He just didn’t know. Perhaps he just wanted to die.

I share no ones heartbreak but my own.” Toulouse replied sadly serious. He somehow just didn’t feel like laughing…or breathing at the moment. He knew the girl was kidding but just couldn’t seem to dredge up the emotion needed for it. The image of Rukh crossed his mind and made him sick with a mindless worry. The Queen would find him. Of that he had not doubt.

Through a veil of thick lashes, fluttered Toulouse’s blue eyes, as he looked at Fumei. “They call me Toulouse.”

"Ah, then what is it about humanity that makes it wonderful to you?" Hmm. Interesting boy this was. He wanted to be human. Was he human? Or was he not? Obviously the answer was no, with earlier reactions, but one must never assume.

B'Elanna hummed in agreement.

"B'Elanna, stop butting into my thoughts or whatever." Fumei said, patting the egg, before looking at Toulouse. "Hm, not your day is it? I wonder, Toulouse, when it will be the day you yearn for?"

Fumei always seemed to be in cryptic messages, but only because they were vague and had a broad range of meetings, and they applied to nearly every situation. For now, it seemed the only way she could communicate with the boy. And it would be so for a while. "You know, most people laugh at my jokes." This time, a sad smile touched her lips. "Don't worry, for someone as adoreable as yourself..."

Her memory was coming back. She missed her big brother. She missed her own heartbreak.

Toulouse was adoreable. But like all non-humans, his story was not one to be told so quickly or given away. He didn't seem at all similar to B'Elanna, except in aura. A void seemed to hang over the boy, and it didn't seem like there was anything Fumei could do to cross it.

Well, if anything...

Fumei looked at the fire, and produced a few sticks with marshmallows. (No doubt from yet her new conveniently placed bag.) "I've got some chocolate and graham crackers..." She offered one to Toulouse. "Wanna indulge with me? It's a lot easier when someone can talk back to you."

Bzz. Bzz... bzzz...z...zz...

"Oh good, she's falling asleep it seems. I thank you for that."

I am not adorable.” Toulouse replied churlishly as he sat up. He didn‘t want to talk about being human, so he continued, “I’m rude, unkind, conceited, and inflexible, but I am not adorable.” He stuck out his pink tongue a bit as he stressed that part about him being adorable. Why did everyone seem to think that? First Felicity, then Piero, now Fumei. What was wrong with people? Sometimes it seemed Toulouse could be as nasty as he wanted to and others would only nod and smile at him thinking that he was being charming again. That was so untrue!

Toulouse watched Fumei across the low glowing fire as she rummaged through her little rug sack. She pulled out some fluffy marshmallows and some long sticks. When she mentioned chocolate, Toulouse perked up a little bit. “Chocolate? I’ll indulge with you if there is chocolate involved.” The idea of his favorite snack chased back some of his sorrow and anger. Maybe just sitting still for a bit would make him more calm.

Sorry that I’m not in such a good mood. Today is definitely not my day. Chasing a guy through some dark woods will do that to a fellow.” Toulouse looked down at his red, angry hand. At least it was healing quickly. The blisters seemed to have ruptured in the last few minutes, and already they were forming over into scabs. He was glad some things were going properly.

"Haha, say that all you will, but even your outwardly appearance screams it so." Fumei replied with a grin. "I don't mind if you're rude, unkind, conceited and inflexible. It makes you all the more interesting~" the girl finished with a singsong voice, her mood seemingly unable to be fazed. The boy seemed to be aching for someone to dislike him, but when someone falls into a lake and asks help to drive away an egg, it was kind of hard to dislike him.

Besides, B'Elanna seemed ecstatic about him. Speaking of which, the egg seemed ever so still now, with clouds going about in a slow, rhythmic motion. B'Elanna was such an unpredictable charge, but weren't all magical things that way?

Toulouse was just a boy. More than that, he looked about her age, and she knew what kind of age that was. Oy vey. With a nod, she happily handed him a stick of marshmallow and a chocolate bar. Then continued making her s'mores.

"We all have those days. Though I haven't chased a guy in dark woods for a while. Hm, I wonder if B'Elanna will be like that when she grows up...?" With random guesses and wild fantasies, magical creatures or non-humans tended to stay out of the norm. Whether they were on target or totally off the mark, it didn't matter. It was beyond the norm anyway, as Fumei preferred.

The egg on the other hand, simply continued to sit back and watch. Much more progress seemed to happen when it kept quiet.

Oh tush.” Was all Toulouse remarked on the subject of being cute. He was never going to win the argument so he might as well just drop it. Everyone always seemed to at least tolerate him and Toulouse could never understand why. Come to think of it, his father was the only who had outright hated him. Of course Absolon had told Toulouse this to his face. The boy didn’t know what the others had thought of him.

Thinking about his father, Toulouse took the speared marshmallows and the chocolate. He promptly took a delicate bite out the chocolate. It was delicious and for the first time that night, Toulouse was glad he had run into Fumei and her crazy egg.

What? Do you imagine her a valiant knight chasing some evil doer through a dark wood?” Toulouse asked gently sarcastic as he gestured to the sleepy egg. How could an egg get sleepy anyways? He had never understood it, but B’Elanna seemed to have worn herself out. At least she wasn’t flying at his head anymore.

Toulouse nibbled on the chocolate some more, the marshmallows sitting forgotten in his other hand. His blue eyes glinted eerily in the firelight as he regard Fumei and B’Elanna steadily in thought.

"Aw, but you're so fun, Toulouse." pouted the girl in mock-hurt, before guiding her stick with a marshmallow tip near the fire. "If you were rude an' all that, you wouldn't be talking so nicely now." And if Fumei really did get angry, she'd have a bad evening. It was all such a waste of time, having to argue with people. But she had found out, long ago, that if one acted less normal and perhaps a little silly, people would either leave you thinking you were below them, or they would stay to pursue a silly subject to prove themselves right. Such was the world of non-humans.

B'Elanna vibrated not so much as angrily, as she was in protest to Toulouse's comment in a sort of slow beat. The egg didn't seem to like the image. Or maybe B'Elanna did, and she was excited to say so. Either way, there was only so many ways for B'Elanna to react. However, this only seem to drain the egg more, before it settled back to stillness.

Fumei made sure to set her marshmallow on fire before blowing it out. "I don't know. It'd be a cool image though! Ohmygosh I wonder if B'Elanna could be that cool~!" Fumei nodded, thinking back on her manga and books of fantasy. *___* Oh books filled with enchanted forests, and magical creatures...

Ahem. Wait a minute.

"Wow, was that a joke?" For once, Fumei didn't laugh as she stared at Toulouse with due incredulity.

Centuries of faulty breeding my dear.” Toulouse said around a mouthful of chocolate and a raw marshmallow that he had just haphazardly stuck in his mouth. He reveled in the manner-less art of it. He had forgotten that he didn’t have to eat with a false dainty reserve. Fumei had just reminded him of that. Good.

Toulouse blinked, not quiet realizing he had said anything particularly funny. “Um, haha?” He asked seriously watching as B’Elanna did a sort of vibrating flip-flop at his comment then settle back down. “At any rate, I’m sure B’Elanna will be beautiful or smart or good or ‘cool’ as you say.”

Poor little egg.” Toulouse remarked at B‘Elanna‘s restful state. “Is she okay?” Maybe Unseelie eggs got more tired than Seelie ones? He wasn’t sure and thought about this as he plucked sticky pieces of melted marshmallow from his cooking stick. The stuff nearly glued his fingers together so Toulouse began to lick each finger in turn, trying to get them clean.

Plop.

And that was the sound of Fumei's brain using it's clockwork as it came back to reality in sync with the now melty marshmallow on the ground.

"So you aren't as terrible as you want to be, bravo darling." Fumei replied, shaking her head a bit to register the shock. It was funny though, and Toulouse seemed to have a suave air about him with his sarcasm. With that, she prepared another marshmallow to roast, and hopefully it would end up in a graham cracker with some chocolate...

B'Elanna seemed to nod at Toulouse, leaning over in Fumei's arms.

"Well, it seems like she just wanted some attention. She'll be fine." Fumei remarked, shaking her head. "I'm sure I'll like whoever she will be. At least, I hope so." And with that, she blew another marshmallow-on-fire out, and immediately plastered it into her waiting graham crackers and chocolate.

With another look at Toulouse, she chewed happily and swallowed before talking again. "So you seem to know what this ashy egg is..."

Toulouse laughed quietly, is good humor slowly returning, as he watched as Fumei let her baked marshmallow hit the ground. “Just wait and see. I can be really, really terrible if I put my mind to it.” He replied through a chuckle and another mouthful of chocolate. His supply of the sweet goodness was quickly being depleted.

Yes I supposed I do.” Toulouse said looking pointedly at B’Elanna as if expecting her to speak out. He did say anymore on the subject, instead waiting for Fumei to continue. He wasn’t sure how much she wanted to know. Piero didn’t want Toulouse to tell him anything about Pasayo and wanted to hear it from her himself. Toulouse smiled inwardly at the thought and wondered how much Pasayo would be able to tell him about the Fae community.

The fire snapped in a merry way and Toulouse watched the flames dance and flick about into the night. A thought of Rukh slipped in and then out of his minds eyes and Toulouse promptly ignored it. He couldn’t doing anything about it he told himself firmly. He’d just have to wait and see what would happen. There was no using worrying about it now at this time of night.

"Oh dear, " Fumei grinned, taking a bite of her s'mores, trying to contemplate her next move. It was too bad B'Elanna was still an egg, but it was far too early to tell anything about B'Elanna. She eyed Toulouse with a child's curiousity, "Hm, maybe I shouldn't encourage you anymore..." Fumei laughed once more, enjoying the messy concoction in her mouth. Chewing and whipping her tongue, she finally got the s'more down her throat.

When Toulouse looked at B'Elanna, now more than ever, Fumei wanted to know the connection between them. It may not have been a bond, but it was a connection yet.

"Hmm, I suppose we'll trade." She gave Toulouse another look, before looking at B'Elanna. The egg seemed content in its silence. Strange egg.

"What would you know of this egg? Who this egg is is something only B'Elanna can tell me."

Trade? Trade what? Information?” Toulouse cocked his head in a mild confusion as he watched Fumei eat her s’more in delight. With his marshmallows and chocolate finished, Toulouse had nothing to do with his hands, so he fussed with his wet shirt that he had forgotten about and tried to tease some more water out of the fabric. It wasn’t going to dry even with the fire going. What a useless thing. He folded it up nonetheless and set it neatly back on the ground as tried to think what to say to Fumei.

In all honesty, I don’t know anything about that egg other than that it’s a spawn of the darkling throng. I know nothing of B‘Elanna herself.” Toulouse tried to keep the derisiveness from his words and almost succeeded. He didn’t hate the Unseelie, but being taught from a young age that the Unseelie were no better than dirt was a hard lesson to break. He was Seelie after all.

"Yeah. I mean, it wouldn't be very fair to you with me asking all these questions. Plus, I'd like to get to know you as well and not just for B'Elanna's sake." She said, watching Toulouse try to get dry. She liked Toulouse. It was always fun being somewhere with people your own age. And he wasn't much at all human.... he had his burdens to bear.

Concentrating on someone else's burdens helped. It helped distract her from her worries and training.

"Hmm, that's fine." She said, taking in all the information and running it in her head for all the possible meanings in the world and beyond. While Fumei ran the calculations in her mind, she did find the 'bark' in Toulouse's mocking tone a bit strange, but B'Elanna didn't seem to mind it. Curiouser and curiouser it seemed, but she didn't want to hit any sore spots. Maybe it was something that concerned B'Elanna... and maybe it didn't.

The egg seemed content (or sleeping) so she'd let sleeping dogs lie.

"Darkling throng, huh? That's pretty interesting..." Fumei absentmindedly pet her egg. "Well, is there anything you'd like to ask me, or B'Elanna?"

Toulouse thought curiously about what Fumei had asked him. He really didn’t know what kind of questions he had for her, if any. Truthfully, he wasn’t all that interested as he mind stubbornly drifted back to Rukh. He was itching to get up and look for the foul creature, but he reminded himself yet again that it would be no use.

With a shrug, Toulouse rubbed the back of his neck slowly, ruffling his damp golden hair. “I really can’t think of anything to ask you. Maybe I’ll think of something later, but for the moment I’m content with just knowing your name. I hope that isn’t strange.” Toulouse didn’t want Fumei to think that he was totally uninterested in her history, it was just that he felt himself gaining less and less empathy as the night worn on. He was tired and wasn’t used to being out so very late. Toulouse sighed feeling like a child still.
