Seda couldn't help a small chuckle at Sasha's reaction to Varius' movements, "He is quite alright. He was just looking around. Since he's young he sleeps much but maybe after some food he'll be awake enough to play with us." She tilted her head curiously, "Are you not use to having younglings around?" Seda never pondered such things before and Sasha gave her quite a new perspective on what life could be. She was excited by the prospects as well as terribly intrigued.

Seda did give a quiet giggle at the comment of the Hunt with so much stress on the word, she wasn't trying to be impolite and her giggle was quite pleasant, but she never did much hunting in her life. "I'm sorry, my friend. Hunting is definitely an instinct I have as well but more for fun. You seem quite drawn to it more than I. I was raised amongst humans in this village, so I don't know much about how our wild cousins behave." She flushed a bit at that, thinking it more an embarrassed lacking in her own nature, but truth be told she fit quite well amongst humans and did not long for anything else.

Seda listened attentively to her new friends' youthful endeavors and a smile broke over her face, remembering her own excursions, pretending to be a fierce Palui warrior, though she only knew the game from watching other Paluis playing at it as well.

Varius had slowly opened his eyes, unable to rest much more, he simply watched Seda and Sasha as they spoke. His body rested quite comfortably so he took the opportunity to take in his surroundings thinking no one else knew he was watching and happily feigned sleep despite his eyes being wide open and bright by now.

"Is that so? I know next to nothing about young palui. I mean, I was one, myself, but I hardly remember it, except that Aurelie-human was there for everything. There are no wild palui around my home." This last was said with a level of pride. She credited herself with the palui-free environment around her home.

Sasha slanted a look at Varius, and then returned her attention to their conversation.

"As for hunting, I enjoy it, but as I am no meat eater - is any palui? - it is chiefly for the thrill that I participate in that activity. Aurelie-human trained me to hunt and stalk using feather-dancers and then I graduated to feet-under-covers. It amuses Aurelie-human to play hunt-games with me, and I try to stay in practice for her."

Seda nodded, understanding how not being around young ones in a while would make someone wary, "Younglings are not dangerous at all, just unpredictable and mischievous I suppose? The humans here get a few on occasion and they're about Varius' size before they're allowed to come play." She smiled at Sasha's obvious pride at having no wild palui near her home, "That is quite good especially with less humans around to keep them away and cautious."

Seda nuzzled on Varius realizing he was watching them and told Sasha, as if in secrecy though no real effort was made to keep it from others, "He's learning. I think he's trying to learn our words." She sounded quite pleased at the prospect.

"I've only ever eaten the fruits and vegetables my mother gives, so I'm not partial to meat myself and none here eat it either. I wonder if Wild Palui eat meat??" She was musing over that last thought when her mother returned with a plate of various fruits, vegetables and nuts, much to Seda's delight.

Varius sniffed the air after the food was left to their care and his stomach gave an almighty grumble. He laughed and sniffed at his own stomach wondering why it made that noise.

Sasha listened with interest as Seda detailed the behavior of young palui. They really were a mystery to her. She couldn't foresee herself ever spawning any, even if she knew any male palui, which she didn't. She did know it was required that there be a palui of each sex to create young. She closed her eyes and pushed those thoughts from her mind. She did not want children. Even if they did turn out to be as pleasant as Varius seemed.

And Varius did seem intelligent, like he was listening and trying to learn from what he heard and remember it, but Sasha knew that all palui were that clever. Nonetheless, it did no harm to be complimentary.

"He does seem to be quite clever," she remarked.

"I don't know much about wild palui. I've never met any. The only palui I've met have had humans, like you and I do. What's your human like? What does she do?"

Seda smiled appreciatively at Sasha, then turned to Varius and nuzzled him gently. She winked at Sasha, then turned to Varius. "Seda" she said as she pointed to herself, then pointed to Sasha, "Sasha." She giggled as his eyes opened wider and she repeated the motions one more time.

Varius was listening carefully as he absorbed what she was trying to teach him. He inched closer and snuggled up to Seda, then purred out her name "Seeeeeda." He looked over at Sasha and tilted his head, "Saaaa-sssshaa." He was still testing the words out in his mouth and mind but he knew he got it mostly right.

Seda beamed brightly at him as he called them by name. She gave him a reassuring look and returned his snuggle at hearing her own name.

"I bet he'll be able to converse soon, but it will be slow building his words." She chuckled softly, then turned attentively to Sasha at her questions. She had to sit a moment to think on how to interpret it. "My human helps Palui. We have quite a few in our home sometimes... They're always put in my charge." She chuckled, quite proud that she had such a big responsibility.

Sasha was duly impressed with Varius' quick wits, and said as much, purring in Varius' direction so that he would understand she was praising him, even if he didn't know the exact meaning of her words yet.

"That must be very interesting, having all those palui in your house all the time. Do they belong to other humans who can't help them? What do they need help with?"

Sasha had come here because she was in need of help. Perhaps that was what Seda's human did: help lost palui find their ways home again. But how did she know where the palui she helped lived? Sasha knew her Aurelie-human was very intelligent for a human being, but she never managed to understand Sasha that well. She didn't speak palui very well, though she sometimes mimicked Sasha's noises. Her accent wasn't bad, but she lacked the correct equipment, Sasha believed, to pronounce all the words as they should be, and it was obvious that she had no understanding of what she was repeating. Like those large, colorful birds. Parrots.

"It's wonderful that your human puts so much faith in you. You're obviously very mature and nurturing. The other palui are lucky you're around."

There was one more question which Sasch wanted to ask about the interesting arrangement in Seda's household, but it wasn't quite polite. She was unsure how to approach the subject. She would just be as delicate as possible.

"How do you manage facilities with so many palui? I don't smell that anyone uses your yard. Surely you don't have to share?"

Seda stopped a moment to think on the full implication of the question because each Palui who had come to their home was different. Each one needing something unique to them. She summed it up in general terms then, "We help anyone in need. My mother taught me early on that we're all very special somehow. She learned how to care for us with herbs, when we're hurt or nurture us when we're found too young and alone." She smiled down at Varius, "Most Palui we help go home or find humans of their own if they have none. But I think he's special... he came in a bundle like I did." She bent down to nuzzle him, knowing in her heart that he was here to stay.

Seda flushed and purred only lightly in her throat at the compliment, "Thank you, you're very kind." She smiled brightly at Sasha.

"What interesting things does your human do out alone?" She was sincerely curious.

At the question of facilities, Seda chuckled softly, "I do not, but the others do. At least until they're strong enough to journey further out to find something more private. I have my own special space in the back that my mother sectioned off."

Sasha's tail tip twitched a little, the only sign she found the idea of sharing facilities distasteful. She had ever been the only palui in her household, and she used a litter box, like a cat. It was what she had been trained to do since emerging from her bundle. It was a clever trick, she knew, and she rarely felt inclined to go outdoors to do her business unless, of course, she was already outside. Then she would go under the porch to hide it.

"Of course he's special," Sasha replied, glancing at Varius. He was, at least, not unpleasant. She had always suspected that young palui would be unpleasant, loud, and messy. Varius seemed not to be any of those things, though, of course, her experience of him was limited.

"My human does not go out alone very often. She almost always takes me with her. But she does not leave the house very often. Only into town once a week to purchase groceries and to meet with a small group of people who like books and talk about books and exchange books." She didn't understand the human obsession with the blocks of paper at all, but she didn't mind sitting on Aurelie's feet or stomach or thighs when she was reading.

"Sometimes she goes to this restaurant run by two men who adore me. One of them is very strange, and the other one always smells of food. I like them. Oh! And she also goes to the place where monstrous machines come from the sky carrying packages in their stomachs."
