Well, yes, actually, that's what I was doing. I used to play the first three pages of the song two years ago, never bothering to learn the entire thing. That's something I do. Like with Maple Leaf Rag, I memorized the song as I read it the first time, but I never bothered with the left hand of the last page. So I can play the entire song by memory, minus the left hand of the second half of the last page. I am too lazy and ADD to take out the music and learn the rest. neutral
... So yeah. It was pretty much from scratch, since I hadn't played the song for two years, two piano teachers ago. Actually, I haven't had a teacher for a year, I think. School doesn't count, I do nothing in that class. They put me in a dumb class. ... Well, with my grade level, actually. xp

I can't stand leaving a song unfinished, unless I really don't like it. sweatdrop I actually never played a piano until last year, and since we only have one piano teacher, she stayed with me this year, too. But I'll be leaving soon, and I don't own a piano, so I probably won't be able to play for a long while. cry So many songs I want to learn, though!!! crying

I started taking lessons when I was seven. I stayed with my original teacher until I was ten. I didn't have teacher again until I was thirteen, I was teaching myself I guess. My new teacher didn't actually teach me anything though, but she was the teacher I had when I started learning Claire de Lune. Then I switched teachers to some Russian lady. She actually had me learning consistent songs and doing exercises. ... I've found that I do much better teaching myself, with the will to learn a song. If I am told I need to learn a song, and I am given a deadline, it's not going to go as well as if I wanted to learn the song myself, which probably just takes me thirty minutes usually, depending on the song. xP

My mom took piano lessons for many years. I never got the chance to, but she did get me started with the absolute basics, which I probably wouldn't even remember now. I do remember where the notes are located, since I had to do some marimba.

No, just basics of playing piano, like finger placement for the left and right hand. I had been in band for years by that point.

It's sounding like you really have to build your wrist up for piano.

Perhaps. I don't even know how I learned. I just remember when I would cheat off of fingering, then I got Minuet in G. Gah, I still hate that song. Now, I just sight read. I play for myself. Claire de Lune, I had to make myself learn. I play it twice tomorrow and then on Friday I think. Well, at least I figured it out. Now that I have the attention span, it's extremely easy. xP
... You know what song is completely insane? Harry's Wondrous World. It's so difficult, in the simplest way. It's crazy. It's crazy amazing. I wish I could watch someone actually play it. My goal is to gain the attention span to learn it. I tried to sight read it today, and it drove me nuts. Maybe it's just because I haven't played something at the level of effort in a long time. I just play random sheet music I usually automatically understand. Like some Kingdom Hearts or Evanescence or some random classical song. I love how Daniel Radcliff just stands on the screen while that song plays in the background. Harry has one pretty wondrous world, with wonders and such, like wonderful things I suppose. Yes.

I didn't start off doing wrist work, but I guess that was the lesson after finger positioning. sweatdrop Then I did finger exercises to stretch my fingers. (*Small hands = me. sad )
