Torrentstar nodded at Sandpaw. "Very nice." he mewed. "Now, You might want to stop now, or we won't be able to carry this all back to camp." Torrentstar said with an amused purr. Torrentstar looked over at Beesting and nodded at him. "Come on, I want to go check out the WindClan border real quick before we head back." he explained.

"WindClan?" Beesting asked with what would have been curiosity. "Are we marking the borders, or is something wrong?" He met the leaders eyes, but found he was too drowsy to read them, and gave up the attempt. He took his perch in his jaws, and lifted it up with some difficulty. It drooped on either side of his mouth, and weighed almost three thirds of what he did.
Beyond grumbling, as Beesting always was, he adjusted the fish's position in his mouth so it would be more comfortable to carry. He resisted the overwhelming urge to clamp his jaws over the creature and padded up the shore to stand beside Torrentstar, waiting patiently for his apprentice.

"I want to see if they have tried to catch any prey, like a vole or something on our border because the rabbits get very scarce this time of year, they may have gotten desperate." he explained. "Come on." he said, beckoning with his tail.
The silver cat darted forward, running along side the river to the border they shared with WindClan. "Well... everything seems okay..." he mewed softly.

Silentpaw slowly came to the water's edge, his mind remembering it all like a film. Nodding to himself, the ashen apprentice lowered himself slightly, his one good eye staring intently into the water, looking past its glimmering surface to the depths below.
He could hear nothing, see nothing but the water for the next few moments, his concentration deep. Then suddenly, his paw lashed out, batting something out of the water with a splash and landed with a soft thud on the land it never could live on with its slick, legless figure. He couldn't help but watch it flail about, trying to find its liquidy haven in the river.
Only when it got too close to the water did he pounce and kill it. It was a small fish, not too plump and not too thin, so it would be easy to carry off. He picked it up with his jaws, gave his mentor a glance, but otherwise said not a word.

Beesting watched his leader inspect the border, waiting patiently a few foxlengths away. He had layed his perch on the ground, not planning to take on the burden until they set off again. He cocked his head as his leader returned, narrowing his golden eyes.
"Why the sudden hostility towards WindClan?" he pried, eyes still narrowed. "Have they done anything to make you suspicious?" He raised his muzzle to the air, breathing deeply. Faintly, and far away, he detected a highly strange scent. He couldn't identify it; it was a cat's scent, mingled with twoleg and a few other scents he couldn't identify.

"Actually yes." I haven't told the Clan yet because I wasn't sure if we needed to worry about it, but last night, during the evening patrol, I strayed away and right near the border, I found a dead water vole, it had the scent of a cat on it, it smelled faintly of WindClan, but I can't be too sure.

Beesting nodded, wondering if he should mention the strange scent he had picked up. Surely Torrentstar had detected it, also? Finding that this was a fine chance to test his apprentice, he motioned with his tail for Silentpaw to join him near the border.
He fixed his golden eyes on him, guessing that Silentpaw would detect the scent also. His nose was twice as strong with his impaired vision. "What can you smell?" he asked the apprentice.

Silentpaw blinked, then slowly slinked towards the border, coming to sit down by his mentor. He set his fish gently down, then rose his head and shut his eyes. He took an intake of breath, many scents coming to his nose. He filtered those of his Clanmates, then wrinkled his nose slightly at a sharp smell. "A cat's scent...but it's really...strange..." He murmured after a moment, wrinkling his nose and opening his eyes.

Beesting nodded approvingly at his apprentice, and turned to his leader. "What do you make of it, Torrentstar?" For, surely, if an apprentice and a warrior had picked up the scent, their leader would be able to detct it?
Beesting crouched low in the undergrowth, wary of any WindClan patrols. He curled his tail around his paws patiently, waiting for orders from Torrentstar.

((What is it?))
Sandpaw had also detected the smell. It wasn't extremely fresh. He turned his head to look at Torrentstar. What will he do? It doesn't seem to be be a threat, he thought. Sandpaw then turned to look at Beesting. She seemed quite desturbed about it.

OOC.// sorry everyone, I'm here. I've just been so busy.
Torrentstar sniffed the air curiously. "Not quite WindClan... Definitely not one of the other clans... Oh StarClan! Loners!" Torrentstar hissed. "A group of Loners has trespassed on our territory!" Torrentstar hissed. "If I catch any one of those crowfood eating pieces of foxdung I'll tear their pelt off and use it to line my den!" Torrentstar hated loners. His brother had been killed by one. "Come, we must warn the camp." Torrentstar said, beckoning with his tail.

"The sent is stale," Sandpaw pointed out, so quietly that the sound barely reached the other cats ears. "Maybe we should just warn other patrols to keep a watch out." Sandpaw didn't look at his mentor, worried that he might get aggitated over the suggestion.

Torrentstar stopped in his tracks, his bristled fur laying back down. He sighed and looked back at Sandpaw. "You're right. I shouldn't get so worked up. I've had bad experiences with loners..." he mewed.

Sandpaw's breath released after Torrentstar's reply. He nodded and walked beside him, heading back to camp. The loner scent probably wasn't a huge deal. But maybe it was... He didn't know. As they approached their camp, he continued to worry about it. At least Torrentstar was sensible. The loner was probably WindClan's problem.

Dampfoot carefully unfurled her body, cracking an eye open and shivering as pale light spilt in. Stepping out of the warriors den, she slowly extended each of her limbs in turn, the theatrical gesture looking almost like the female had the intent of showing off her grace rather than waking herself up. Sitting silently outside the den, Dampfoot frowned upon the clearing, inclining her head and pressing her ears forward in an almost disapproving manner. Seemed she had missed most of the morning commotion, but that was currently of little interest to Dampfoot. If the silver she-cat strained her ears, she could almost hear the morning patrol traipsing back to camp. An awkward fidget wracked her form, and discomfort blossomed in her ribs. Dampfoot liked camp better when it was empty and quiet. She contemplated slipping out of camp before the rest of the cats returned, but quickly dismissed the idea. She was probably in enough trouble as it was for sleeping through the entire patrol and being 'lazy', hiding would only get her in deeper water. Dampfoot yawned, her jaws gaping as she settled down to sit stiffly and wait for the patrol return, wondering briefly whether they would bring news with them.
