just outta curiosity, what do you guys think about Huckabee's idea to disband the IRS? talking about new ideas, from the outset this actually looks like a good one, even tho I dont normally take much positive interest in anything republican candidates have to say. the other things he stands for are typical of right wing thought and I'm in disagreement with them for the most part.. but imagine it.. taking home your *full* pay check (minus health benefits and 401K of course). taxes based on what you buy as opposed to how much you make... sounds pretty interesting to me.

yes, i love that idea. No reason to be taxed just for working........

but other than that, i dont agree with republicans too much either........

and from what I understand from reading his campaign page, the tax would be on 'new' purchases as opposed to used. so if you bought a used car or computer or something, you wouldnt get taxed at all on it.

I am dubious however, about his ability to get it done tho. wouldnt it be something he'd have to get passed thru congress, or is it something he'd be able to do outright?

yeah, im pretty sure it'd have to go through congress.......

but hey, thats not the point. if it will win them votes, candidates are more than willing to make promises on all sorts of things. Republicans know plenty about that.........

yeah, that's true. I'm quite sure many candidates say things just to get votes. In general I dont trust any politician any more than I'd trust a lawyer. but I have to be fair too.. I'm sure that sometimes one who wins the presidency finds out pretty quick that what they wanted to do isnt so easy to accomplish.. whether it's an issue of funds or an issue of getting congress to work with you. if the majority in congress belong to the opposite party that the president represents (and vice versa!), that alone could be grounds to veto ideas and it happens a lot.
