Prompt: It finally happened...from all the aspiring trainers with the same dream, you have been chosen as a gym leader. Today for the first time, you and your Pokemon will step into the stadium that will be your workplace for a long while. What do you think of first? Redecorating? Who you will hire to work under you? You're supposed to represent the toughest Pokemon trainer in the city, are you nervous?
You're not even finished looking around when someone calls your name...and you're given a letter. Your first ever challenger will arrive later that day! What goes on in your mind while you wait? The grass of the Pilkira plains crunched under the weight of Kailana’s heavy iron boots. She was making her way once more towards lands in the North, she still couldn’t believe her luck that she of all people had been chosen to become the gym leader for the town of Motterossa. Thinking back to earlier that morning, she remembered the strange visit she had recieved.------------------------------------------------ -Knock knock- Isamu was already at the door, growling lowly.Kai quickly shot up in bed, “Who is it?!” she hurriedly blurted out, her eye still not even fully opened. She didn’t get many visitors and the only thing her sleep deprived mind could think of was that it was the Katarina police force, trying yet again to bring her in somehow for questioning with some bogus excuse.
Her red eye rolled to look at the clock as she flopped back onto her pillow. Six fecking thirty. Who in their right mind would even be up at this ungodly hour?!Abyss wanted part of the action too now, standing right beside Isamu, putting on as best of a scowl as she could, her fluff sparking slightly.-Knock knock- ”I’m coming, I’m coming. Hold your horses!” She took her time getting out of her bed, finding a pair of shorts to quickly throw on to cover herself better than her panties did. At least she was wearing a shirt, though she always wore those to bed.
“Move it you two,” she muttered, using her foot to part the two of them from the door. The deadbolt clicked open as she turned it, opening the door just enough to fit her head between the frame as she peered out. “Yes, may I help you?” She stared at the slightly shorter male for a few seconds, watching as he was tempted to step back, knowing all too well that he had disturbed a sleeping dragon.“Err, here, this is for you!” He quickly thrust a long envelope forward, small gold accents adorning the paper. She took the envelope with an eyebrow raised, “Eh, what’s this?” She opened the door a bit wider as she looked at it with two hands, tilting it this way and that as if it would do her any good.He was still slightly nervous, hoping the letter was up to par with the woman’s standards as he straightened up, “It’s a notification letter for you being accepted as Motterossa’s one and only gym leader!” She couldn’t help but hold back a laugh, taking another look at the man, “You’re pulling my leg, right?” She didn’t believe that she could have gotten the spot, and with that she proceeded to slam the door in his face.“B-But wait, y—“ -SLAM- ”Stupid pranks,” she mumbled, skidding her feet across the floor as she flopped back onto her bed, dropping the envelope on her nightstand. She didn’t much care that her face was now buried in the pillow and she could have suffocated, she just wanted to get back to sleep, such a rude awakening was totally unnecessary.“Ma!” Abyss snorted, tilting her nose into the air as she triumphantly walked away from the door as if she had scared off the poor soul. However, Isamu tilted his head at the letter as he sat next to Kai’s bed, sniffing it cautiously. Taking it carefully in his jaw, he nudged it gently against his owner; he had a strange feeling about the pretty decorated paper.Ugh, what now? she thought, turning to face her absol. “What, you want me to open this?” She looked back into his convincing face, urging her strongly to take a peek in the letter regardless. “Oh, alright then.”
She took the paper and sat up in her bed as she tore open the letter and read:Letter Congratulations Kailana! You have been selected as Motterossa’s newest Gym Leader! We believe you have what it takes to make a namesake in the world and we’d love to have your unique battling skills added to our town to give it a delightful new edge. Please come to the Motterossa Gym as soon as possible to get started. Sincerely, The Mayor of Motterossa ”Huh,” she said plainly, looking back up and over to Isamu and then to her Abyss, “Guess we’d better start packing.”

Abyss trotted happily beside her owner, full to the brim with sweet chesto-berry-goodness from their trek across the plains. She had stopped at every single bush to pick a few fruit, and she even stopped to chat with some wild mareep. Though Kailana tried her best to thwart her attempts by dragging her away, they couldn’t dawdle if they had to get to the new town as soon as possible.
The old absol wasn’t much help either; he took the opportunity to pay a visit to the local skitty and pichu. He was more of a hassle than Abyss was, chasing around the smaller pokémon and escaping from Kai’s clutches. It was a wonder she even caught him to pull him on their way, Abyss in tow as well.
Kailana gave a small sigh as she walked, hands folded, grasping the back of her head. She carried a rather large pouch around her side; everything she had wanted to bring from her apartment in Katarina was in it, which wasn’t all too much. The one thing she did make sure to bring was food, though she took Abyss’s advice and ate on their way over the Plains.
The Rinaul Mountains began to take form to the East of them, a few houndour and houndoom watching them from the high cliffs. “Isamu, you’d better be good, I’m not chasing you again, got that?” She looked at him, giving a stern look.
He lowered his head, looking rather defeated, “Absol..(Alright..)” He so wanted to chase around these pokémon as well, but he knew they had to stay on track so he obeyed his trainer’s wishes.
”Good.” She gave a small nod before looking over to Abyss. It seemed her mareep had taken an interest in some of the shinx, most likely thinking of how pretty she looked compared to them.
She chuckled, watching the shinx and luxio playing with each other. Hrm..I wouldn’t mind having one of those on my team, I wonder… Kailana only blinked once, but what she saw stunned her: behind the shinx and luxio stood a gorgeous grey and pale luxray, standing guard over the other pokémon. I…must have him, she thought, straying slowly away from her intended path.
“Hey there,” she said, being careful to stay about ten feet away from him; she didn’t want to scare him.
The red-eyed luxray eyed the trainer carefully as he stood his ground, the shinx and luxio taking shelter off in the distance behind him.
She watched as all the others gathered around him and figured him to be their leader. “I see,” she said to herself quietly. “I’d like to make you a bargain, I see you’re very protective of your clan there. What I offer is fame and power…if you join me on my quest.”
Isamu stepped towards the other male, interpreting what his owner had said to him.
”You can show everyone just how powerful your clan is, not to mention support and urge them to grow as strong as yourself.” She wanted to make sure not to offend the pokémon, she wanted to coax him into joining her; she wasn’t looking to pick any fights on her journey to Motterossa.
The luxray stared at Kailana for a few moments, sizing up the woman to see if she seemed worthy enough. “Luxray ray luxray lux luxray luxray ray lux, luxray luxray. (I will join you on your quest for power and fame, for the time being.)” And with that he lowered his head slightly, showing submission towards the trainer.
She grinned as she pulled a great ball from the belt around her waist; it grew as she pressed its button with her gauntlet-clad hand. “I’ll call you Belun for now; hopefully I can convince you to stay if you like what I offer,” she smiled, “friend.”
Abyss chimed in, “Ma mareep, reep mareep ma ma mareep. (You’ll like it, she’s not as bad as she seemes.)”
Belun said nothing, he only pressed his nose against the button and retreated into the ball in a beam of red light.
Kailana held the great ball for a few moments as she gave a triumphant smile. I’ll be sure to beat the competition with Belun on my side. She turned round to look at her other pokémon, “Come on, let’s go fight some trainers already.”

The smell of the fields of flowers off to the west in the Seatence Valley caressed Kailana’s nose as she drew closer to the town, a few houses and buildings already in view.
“Alright,” she said slowly as if to herself, “Now where’s the gym..?” Her red eye scanned the area as she kept walking, finally spotting the mentioned building, “Ah, there it is!” She walked briskly over towards the structure, noticing the obvious GYM label smack dab across its front.
She quickly knocked on the double doors, which were unlocked as she soon discovered as they opened slightly, as if inviting her in. “Hello?” she said rather boldly once inside, the bright lights on the high ceiling giving the place a bright glow. The main focus of the large room was the basic battling setup, just a large neutral brown rectangle in the middle with designated areas for the trainers to battle. Ugh, I’m gonna need to fix that, it looks way too simplistic. I wonder who I can talk to about that.. She turned around, only to be startled by a short, stout man with a large white mustache.
“Hello there! You must be Kailana, it’s such a pleasure to finally meet you!” He quickly grabbed her gauntly, shaking it firmly and briskly. “As you can see, the gym needs a bit of personalized touches, but it should do for the time being, until you get settled in. Now, there’s a few other rooms connected to this large building as well as a small house next door that you can use to your advantage. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask me, or any of the townspeople for assistance, we’d be more than happy to help! I’m sure you’ll fit right into our little town and give it the flair we could use to attract visitors.”
”Er, sure…thanks,” she took back her hand, which he was still holding and continued to look around. “So…will I be the only person in here or will—“
He cut her off, “Oh! About that, yes, we could send some people in to help you, I’m sure we could find some local trainers who would just love to get involved with the gym. But until then, it’s just you and your pokémon!”
Abyss quickly ran onto the battle field, giving a smug smirk as she pranced around, loving the limelight and adrenaline the battle field alone gave her.
Isamu sat on the sidelines, watching her with a grin, (What a weirdo,) he thought, practically laughing at her.
Kai was about to stop her queenly mareep before she was interrupted once more.
“Oh! Silly me, I forgot one more thing. Since the gym is now open, I took the liberty of letting a trainer in for an official gym battle with you. They said they’d be here today, but they’ve yet to show. I wonder if they got lo—“
-Knock knock-
The door called to Kailana who responded with a devilish grin as the door slowly opened, the faint outline of a person standing in the door, Yes, she thought, this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.
