Naito Well the original manga was made in the 60s or 70s, how advanced did you want the artwork to be? sweatdrop I'm a big fan of Cyborg 009 so it does it for me. The cyborgs are slightly different then in the anime since it was based in an earlier era. Like how G.B.(006 or 7, I forget) wasn't a highly skilled actor when he was kidnapped, he was a wandering out of work drunk. The chinese chef was an unsuccessful peasant farmer & he was kidnapped just when he was about to hang himself. 003's abduction was just funny when her brother was trying to chase after her kidnappers. I realize it's old.
So, people were kidnapped and turned into cyborgs? Hmm... I kinda like that. Tell me more!

Well the organization of known as Black Ghost create new weapons of destruction & with the help of politicians in their back pocket they keep tensions & hostilities high between nations so that they would by their weaponry. This is why Black Ghost is called the "death merchant". The cyborgs were supposed to be the their latest weapon. With weapons such as nukes, war was starting to become too destructive to contain on Earth so cyborg warriors would be created to continue the eternal war in the dephs of space.
The anime though, has so far ignored the space scenario. I guess since the manga was made during the era of the space race & the a-bomb the anime's creators thought that part wouldn't hold as much weight as it did back then
