"Oh, okay" she said, impressed that Garnet did all of this just on instincts alone. It was so intricate. She wondered what the inside of it was like. Her curiosity was piqued when Garnet said to check the garden. "Ohh, okay, I'll check it soon"

She smiled at Garnet's acceptance of her cooking and chuckled a bit "Good! I love cooking so it should be my pleasure. I'm glad you like my cooking. I like it too" she winked.

"Was thinking to make spaghetti bolognese. Lots of yummy noodles and sauce with meatballs. I'm making something for Poff too" She then looked at Garnet "You hunted already? Does that mean you've mastered flying? Wait, don't tell me what you hunted though! I don't want to know" By this time, Garnet would have known Larissa was too squeamish about her hunting and eating animals. She didn't mind that she did it, but she wanted no part of that and tended to avoid the topic. Of course, she ate meat from the supermarket, along with seafood so that was a bit hypocritical.

She walked downstairs and to the gardens with her, her breath taken away by the beautiful trees of living crystal. "Whoa. New trees. Did Aria do this or did you plant them or what? They're incredible!" she ran up to one and felt it.It felt smooth and cool but there was a tingle of magic in it. "Gosh, they're alive. Wherever did you find these? Whoever made them must be a top rate crystal magic user. I have to say, I'm jealous of their ability! I've not learned how to make living crystal. Nor is it covered in classes so maybe it's not something you normally see" The wind blew the branches and they tinkled in the breeze. "Hehe, it makes a nice wind chime too"

Poff sniffed the tree and tilted her head at it "Can you climb these?" she experimentally reached out a paw and tried to get a grip with her claws.

User Image"Mmmm." I said at the thought of the spaghetti. "Sounds good."

She then asked about me flying, but not wanting to know what I hunted. I shrugged. "With my size I'd eat us out of house and home. And I'm still growing. I have to go hunt from the wilds in-order to not completely spend my own paychecks on nothing but fish and pork. And that's saying something considering how much my job pays me."

"I found them as saplings in a magical plant nursery in town." I said as she ran up to one to feel it. I sashayed over, my tail sweeping back and froth as I walked in the bigger space of the garden. "Aria simply accelerated their growth to full trees. That's when I got the idea to use them for the nest, since I've been itching to make one for a while."

I glanced around, looking at the trees casting a colorful light all over the garden. "Want me to pick up some more, tomorrow perhaps? I saw Peridot, Tanzanite, Amethyst and even an Opal tree."

Yeah, spaghetti bolognese was always good. It was so easy to make, yet so tasty. Especially with the mozzarella cheese Larissa always added on top. She had a funny thought and looked at Garnet "I wonder how big a bowl of spaghetti we'd have to make to feed a full size dragon. I might try it some day, with a growth spell!" she grinned at the thought. "It'd probably be the size of a swimming pool!"

"Oh yeah, I know" she said understandingly to Garnet about the hunting "I don't hate you for it. I just don't like seeing you eat what you catch. I know it's hypocritical since I like to eat meat too, but I just can't stand the sight of Bambi or Thumper that way!" she chuckled a bit "Fish isn't too bad so long as I don't have to see it being scaled and cleaned. I guess I'm just squeamish around gory stuff. If I was a dragon, I'd probably hunt my own food too"

She was definitely interested in hearing where Garnet found these amazing plants. "Cool! I suppose this town is just full of surprises. I really should expect this kind of stuff seeing as we're surrounded by magic and magical folk of all kinds. But even for a magic community, living crystal trees are still pretty out there. You had a wonderful idea to use them for a nest. At least you don't have to go on a quest to find treasure or sparkly things for it now, since you've got them right here. Your nest looks so cool. I'm sure it would make other dragons envious. Your baby is going to love it!"

She admired the light that played over the garden and lit up Poff's white fur in pretty patterns "Yeah. Collect them all! Heck, I don't know when you'll find something like these again and they sound expensive too. They could be rare" She took Garnet's hand and stood on tip toe before pressing a kiss to her cheek. "You did good. And thanks for sharing these with me. I'm going to cook up some food now, and I'll tell you about my day if you're interested"

She headed back inside and to the kitchen, gathering ingredients and tying on an apron. She started to chop vegetables (onion, tomatoes) and chat while she worked, telling Garnet all about her day at the mall. She left out the part about gift shopping though. "So Charlotte and I saw the outdoor ice skating rink is opening again soon and we wondered whether they make skates for dragons. I think you could probably just use your paws though. Well, maybe. I'm not good at ice skating but it is fun, so if you wanted to, I think we could get a group together and go. Charlotte, Mia, and Eilene, and maybe that nice guy whose been helping me in classes"

User ImageCollect them all. If that wasn't a direct sign of approval nothing was. That nursery is going to find themselves out of gemstone trees in the morning. She gave me a peck on the cheek and we headed back inside so she could start cooking.

Ice skating, hmm?" I said, sitting on the floor next to the table, leaning against it. "I might be able to skate with my paws, yeah. But if I do, everyone better get off the ice cause I'll be shredding it." I said with a grin. "That does sound fun, ice skating. Make a little event out of it."

I watched her cook with a smile as I sat there next to the table.

She watched the noodles start to simmer and soften and began frying the onions, stirring them occasionally so they didn't burn. Poff had jumped down off her shoulder and was sitting on the table. She was spoiled and so she was allowed to sit there. She quietly washed her face and fur, content to listen to the conversation.

"Yeah, ice skating" she confirmed. She giggled softly at Garnet's remarks. "Sounds like you're up for it. Yay!" She clapped in celebration "You won't even need one of those sparkly leotards since your scales are already so sparkly" she said, browning the meatballs before simmering them in the sauce. "I can't wait to skate together. Or just watch you do your magic carving up the ice. You'll probably draw a crowd. I think we'll have fun this winter. The colder temperatures will be nice for you, too"

She kept chatting, before coming over with the food and serving it onto plates. She gave Poff a small bowl of cooked meatballs with gravy instead of sauce, since the sauce had garlic and onion which cats couldn't eat.

She also served some noodles for Gossamer and Sapphire, placing the little dishes on the table next to her girlfriend. "So," Larissa said as she got a forkful of noodles and twirled them around her fork. "I'm thinking of taking up knitting or crochet through the colder months. Make myself a scarf. Mittens. And, something for the baby. I figured it would be a good time while the stasis spell is in effect. How long has it been now?" she looked at her hand, trying to count the days and weeks on her fingers. "We've been perma-pregnant since...um....late August?" She kept eating.

Poff daintily lapped up her gravy and nibbled off pieces of meatball, scissoring them up in her teeth. She licked her lips and smiled before continuing to eat. She also had a cat water fountain next to her in case she got thirsty. If Larissa spoiled her future child as much as her familiar, there was going to be trouble.

User Image"I'll have to do some pracicing then, knowing that you'll be watching." I said with a smile. "There's a frozen over lake up in the mountains that I found, which would be perfect to practice. Besides, I need to relearn my balance with this transformation I'm going through." I said, thinking. I lifted my head and scratched my neck gently with a claw, thinking.

Soon enough she brought the food over. Gossamer and Sapphire eagerly nommed on the food, and I just outright lifted the plate presented me and ate slowly, completely ignoring silverware.

I finished chewing a bite of spaghetti and I looked thoughtful. "I don't think my hatchling will need floofy clothes. I get hot enough when wearing a pair of shorts and a halter top." Which was essentially what I was wearing right now. Mainly for modesty. "We'll be coming up on 3 months tomorrow." I said, before taking a couple more bites from the pile of noodles.

Once I was done eating, I set the plate down and it floated away to the sink. Gossamer and Sapphire flew off the table, Sapphire dangling from the ceiling while Gossamer perched on a railing near the ceiling which was added recently.

"Speaking of the babies." I said, giving a sidelong glance at Poff, before turning my attention back to Larissa. "I really hate to suggest this, and if it wasn't for the children I wouldn't at all. But could you get into the habit of spoiling Poff less?" I asked her. "The cat is bad enough. I don't need to try to raise two spoiled kids ontop of that!"

"Oh, cool. So you've explored the mountains already. Wow. You sure get around well with those wings" She was impressed at how much exploring Garnet had done already. She ate some more, getting a bit of sauce around her mouth. She didn't notice and kept eating.

Larissa looked a bit disappointed that Garnet's dragon kits wouldn't need fluffy garments. "Aw. Oh well. Maybe I can make them something to play with instead; soft toys!" she looked at Garnet's outfit and shook her head "How could I forget that you love the cold? Dressed like that. Everyone else is bundled up in layers and scarves. I'm pretty sure you're the only one I've seen getting around like that so far this winter" She decided not to comment on Garnet's shocking table manners with the plate of spaghetti.

"Hmm, three months, gosh that's gone fast. But I'm kind of impatient to get past this early stage of perma-pregnancy. All the mood swings, morning sickness, ugh, so gross..the cravings are pretty fun though. I normally want sweet, fluffy stuff. I'm probably going to gain more weight unless I start exercising more. Guess I could start walking in the afternoons after classes"

Poff finished everything on her plate, and licked it clean of gravy. She then started washing her face with her paw, which looked really cute. Her ears swiveled to catch their conversation.

Larissa finished the rest of her dinner and the plate floated off to the sink that was filled with bubbly water already. Garnet instantly had her focused attention when she said the word 'babies' "Yes?" Larissa leaned forwards a little, curious to hear what she had to say. She started to look less happy though as she listened. "What? Spoil her? But - but Poff's my...she's so special to me. I love her! That's just the way I show my love. I want her to have all the best things and be happy in life. She's only got us. We're her family" she grabbed the cat and put her into her lap, cuddling and petting her much to Poff's surprise and annoyance.

"Hey...Larissa..I was trying to wash! I'm not finished my cleansing regime" Poff protested, trying to duck the pats to her head and wriggle out of her partner's lap. She managed to get free and trotted away out of reach, sitting down and starting to wash herself again quickly.

Larissa was frowning, "How do you mean spoil her less? And how does the way I treat Poff affect our babies? I'll just treat everyone with the same level of love and attention, then there won't be any problems" she said confidently. "Besides, Poff is a darling. I don't know what you mean saying she's bad enough...she has a lovely personality. She's so funny" she said warmly, glancing at her familiar with a chuckle. Clearly the two had different ideas about what spoiled was.

User ImageAt her comment about my wings I shook them a little, letting them half furl before tucking them once more against my back. I smiled at her as she looked over my outfit, commenting that I was the only one to wear such clothing during the winter. Indeed, I think even the ice mages are wearing more then I am-- If I'm remembering the other students and their garb correctly.

"We could probably lift the spell soon-ish." I said after a moment. "Isabella said it was safe, never said it was pleasant." I mused.

It was then she got confused and slightly upset when I asked her to stop spoiling Poff so much. I sighed.

"Let me put it this way. It's wonderful to want your children to be happy and have everything they ever want. There's nothing wrong with that. But some things have to be earned and cannot simply be handed to them on a silver platter." I said, my tone gentle as my tail flicked slowly back and forth on the tile. "If you give our kids all they want, they won't see the need or have the desire to earn things. They'll expect you or me, or anyone else to just give things to them. They'll think they can act any way they please and it'll be ok, they won't get in trouble. They'll get demanding. Next thing you know we're all stressed out because our kids won't listen to us."

I sighed, long low and heavy. "Take Poff for example. She doesn't walk anywhere. She sits on your shoulder or on the table, and is too worried about her fur to do anything for herself-- or for you. Or have you forgotten that you nearly got suffocated by slimes and she did nothing about it? Yes, she's cute and she's funny, but she's also very selfish. If she continues on this path she won't even bother helping you with spells."

"Or... What if we spoil my hatchling? My child will get as big as I am one day. Probably bigger. You know how much I need to eat, and how much of the day I spend hunting. If my child expects everything to be given to them, they will not learn how to hunt, which means they may resort to stealing... Which is bad for a dragon to do, if you catch my drift." I looked to Larissa with a stern expression.

"Ooh, we can? That would be great" she said with anticipation. "Yeah, I just don't want to throw up every day. And have to pee five times at night. Maybe that doesn't go away. But yeah, it has to be safe to remove the spell soon, since no one's been harassing us. I want the baby to grow, too. It would be really weird if they stayed in me forever".

She listened to Garnet speak without interrupting. What she said wasn't exactly the easiest thing to hear but she had made some good points and Larissa didn't realise before how her treatment of Poff or their kids could be bad for them. She was quiet for a while, thinking over what Garnet had said. "I see. I didn't realise that could even be a problem. I mean, Poff's so well behaved and her manners are impeccable. But I don't want people to think badly of her, or me as her partner. I guess I could cut back a little. It's just that, she's a cat. I didn't think you could spoil a familiar. I can understand her thinking about wanting to keep her fur clean and pretty. Cats naturally have that as an instinct to avoid being detected by their prey or predators. And I guess, she picked up habits and thought patterns from me...about image, appearance, and such" she sounded guilty. Maybe she hadn't done the best by her familiar by pampering her and giving her a life of luxury.

"Yeah, but I love having her sit on my shoulder. It feels comfortable, and friendly. I don't like her being on the ground in case someone steps on or kicks her. But I guess cats usually walk around on the ground. But my mum's cat always sat on her shoulders. Then again she's not a familiar like Poff is. As for sitting on the table. Well, I'm a cat lover. I like her being up near me while we're eating together. And, well, yeah, I guess that was my fault, she's learned from me about the cleanliness and appearance things. We're both girly girls and I might have rubbed off on her too much in that area. I don't really see it as a problem but I guess she could have maybe helped me out back then"

She looked at Poff. "Do you have anything to say about that? I mean, I know it was a while ago but I guess Garnet makes a good point"

Poff sat and turned to them, sitting with her paws primly in front of her. "Well I was still recovering from the horrible frights we had in that haunted house. And those slimes were so gross. I could tell you didn't want me to get covered in slime and have to wash me. And I also didn't want to get icky slime all over my fur. Especially not when you likened it to snail mucus. I've never really had to use magic before, so I didn't even think of using any. I mean, I did, but, Garnet was there, and she could help and if I didn't have to get slimy or make an effort, I wasn't going to. If Garnet wasn't there and there was no one else to help, I would have stepped in. I just didn't want to go to extremes when there was a reliable source of help nearby"

Larissa listened to her and made a soft thoughtful grumble that was half sigh. "Hmmm... you're right, we were both really shaken up. And panicking as well. I probably caused you to panic more than necessary. Oh, wow. Hehe. You really hate getting dirty too, huh? Just like me. Mud, bugs, slime, it's all so...gross! I totally get why you wouldn't want that in your fur and I recall we were worried about it being toxic. Mind you, I was covered in it but I don't have to lick myself to wash clean. Anyway, getting off track! It sounds like I really have spoiled you, and haven't done the best thing for you...Now that I think about it, what kind of magic can you even do? I've never once seen you use any, or encouraged you to try, even though we've been studying since you were a kitten"

Poff blinked slowly, thinking as she tilted her head and put a paw to her chin "Mmm....I don't know. I think I can amplify your own magic and spells. It's just a sense I get, like something intuitive. I don't know what would happen if I tried to use it but it could be interesting to test it out. I'm kind of embarrassed though. That's nothing impressive" she looked down.

Larissa shook her head "No, no, it's very helpful! It's very impressive. Poff, if you helped me back then, I could have crystallized maybe...uh, one or two slimes. And maybe even got away and then Garnet wouldn't have got hurt helping us get away. That is pretty selfish, I guess. But I take that as my fault for spoiling you so. I feel bad about it now".

She turned back to Garnet and continued the conversation "Oh, yeah. I didn't think about that. It never even crossed my mind. Geez. That wouldn't be a good thing at all. No need to give people a reason to attack them. I'm sorry. I'll try not to spoil Poff any more, and I'll try not to spoil our kids either. I don't want them to get into trouble due to my bad parenting". She frowned unhappily "I thought I was doing the right thing" she mumbled, upset to find out how her good intentions were putting her familiar and possibly kids at risk. "I'm a bad parent" she started crying. Another mood swing. She was soon blubbering like a baby.

User ImageShe took my words... harder then I hoped she would. She took Poff's behavior as entirely her own fault, which... Poff is old enough by now to make her own decisions. I soon enough watched her break down crying.

I got up and headed around the table, picking Larissa up in my arms. I gently nuzzled Larissa as she cried, hugging her to comfort her.

"No damage done, dear." I said, gently rocking my sobbing girlfriend back and forth. "It's okay. It's going to be okay." I held Larissa close-- to be there for her. It may be genuine sadness or a mood swing... I can't really tell-- but I still should be there.

Her mood was swept away by the joy of mood swings. Crying over little things as though they were a big deal was all part of being pregnant. Still, she was probably taking it harder than she could have. Poff could perhaps tell Garnet's line of thought because she walked over and nudged her partner's leg with her head.

"I'm sorry. You're not bad. I...I'm spoiled and selfish" Poff said, frowning. "I'll try to help you more, and next time if there are slimes, I will help"

Then Garnet picked up the young woman, taking her by surprise. She always forgot how strong Garnet was. She gasped and put her arms around Garnet's neck subconsciously. Larissa wiped her eyes, sniffling a little as she calmed down. Her makeup was running, leaving streaks down her face. "I'm sorry. I don't know why that upset me so much. I just, I let Poff down" she hicupped and wiped a few more tears away.

She sighed, calming and settling as she was held and rocked. She pecked Garnet's lips gently and laid her head on her shoulder, hugging her. She would feel soft, warm and plush against the dragon girl's tough scales. "Thank you. You're so good to me. Well...the damage has been already done with Poff, but I'm glad you pointed out the issue to me now, rather than later. And Poff" she looked at the cat "It's not your fault. I raised you that way. I'm going to adjust a few things okay? And you have to help me with spells. No more being lazy"

Poff nodded "Okay. I will. I can do that much at least. I just got so used to being pampered" she admitted. "I could use a bit more excitement in my life, I suppose. Helping with spells sounds...reasonable" the cat concluded. "Seraph has such cool abilities though, if he learned that I'm just an amplifier..."

Larissa shook her head and reached for the cat, picking her up to cuddle. "Don't say that, Poff. Just an amplifier...do you know how useful and amazing that is? You make any spell stronger and more effective, just by using your powers. Anyway, you'll be okay. Things might not be so easy from now on, but just know that if I stop spoiling and pampering you, that doesn't mean I love you less. I'll still make sure to brush you, or paint your claws, or cook you gourmet meals. You'll just have to have those things as special treats. If you work on spells with me, you get rewarded. I think that's fair"

She looked at Garnet, stroking Poff, since it calmed her down and Poff enjoyed the petting. "Garnet, we should probably talk about our different ideas of raising them, to be honest. I won't spoil them now. Or I'll try not to. But what kind of rules should we have, and discipline? How do you punish them for doing something bad? I have really no experience with little kids, let alone a baby. How smart even are new born dragons?"

User ImageI tried not to comment on the conversation that Larissa and Poff were having. I wasn't going to deny that the slimes had been gross-- but I had made it clear what I had thought about that situation. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, gross things be damned.

I also didn't make the comment that a familiar that didn't contribute to the partnership was just a leech. Hell, either partner that didn't contribute was likely just a leech. I stayed silent though, as this was something for her to sort out with Poff. I'm also glad that she wasn't taking my concerns the wrong way, or getting defensive. I remembered that first fight we had. Ugh, I don't need her throwing a fit like that again. I thrummed at her peck on my lips; she kissed me!

Then she asked me a... couple tough questions.

"Um." Was all I could manage at first. "Good question. I don't fully know how to answer that, unfortunately. I know human babies can learn sign language far sooner then they learn speech. Maybe you could teach your baby sign language to communicate with them?" I asked. "Might make it easier to communicate with your baby. As for my child... I've heard that depending on the species dragon hatchlings can be rather intelligent."

I sat back, leaning against the table as I continued to hold Larissa. "As for discipline... well... we don't want to be overly harsh, but at the same time we don't want to be lax. We want them to be free to be who they are but at the same time we don't want them thinking they rule the roost. Um." I scratched the back of my head. "Does that make any sense? As far as I know most parenting stuff is guesswork and contextual, but if you have a goal in mind it's easier?"

She was curious about what Garnet had to say. The sign language thing did sound neat but then again, it sounded like probably a lot of work too. "Eh, that's okay. It's a good idea and sure, it could make things easier but I don't know if I want to go to all the trouble of learning it myself. I'll think about it..." she decided. She needed a bit of time to choose whether it was worth doing. Most parents didn't as far as she knew, and got alone just fine.

"Yeah I thought that too. I've heard dragons are smart. They probably are more like animals in how they develop, kind of like our familiars" she said. "I won't be surprised at all if your hatchlings are running around and talking well before my...um...whatever it is in there" she poked her belly cutely and chuckled. "It probably looks like a blob right now. I was reading some stuff online and saw pictures of human babies so I'm guessing they develop similar but I honestly have no idea. And that's kind of scary"

She continued to cuddle her, enjoying the attention. They hadn't really done much romantic things since the Halloween date, since they were both always busy with studies and social lives. So this was nice. Larissa was secretly pleased at the reaction she got to kissing Garnet's lips for the first time. It was shy, and felt like a butterfly kiss, but it took courage. But it made her feel warm and glowy inside as well as a bit brave. She was relieved and happy to hear the purrs from the dragon woman and that Garnet didn't react badly. Her purrs were so loud it was like a motorbike thrumming. Cool.

Oh, Garnet was answering her other question. Right. She tuned back in. "Yeah...yeah, that sounds about right" she agreed. "I get what you mean. Not spoiled, but not suppressed either. I suppose I can do what I know based on my own upbringing. I had a good childhood. My father was always a bit restrictive with me but mum was more relaxed about some rules. So sometimes I got really confused what I was and wasn't allowed to do. They both had different ideas about how to raise a child and it caused a lot of fights. The worst thing though, was being caught in the middle of it. My dad would tell me to tell my mum nasty things, or my mum would say horrible things about my dad to me behind his back. They weren't bad people. It's just an easy thing to happen I guess. Things got a lot better after they both got counseling. And I had some too. But my friends helped the most. Gosh, I miss them so much! I wish I could introduce you guys".

She had gotten completely off topic somehow. "Oh! I had a point in there somewhere. What I mean is; we should probably try to be on the same page about what we will and won't do. Y,know, like, rules and stuff. It's gonna be hard though because little dragons would need slightly different rules than a humanoid baby. I think. And we won't know what they're like until they get here".

User ImageShe didn't seem to hot on the sign language thing. I thought it would have been cool, but she seemed to think it would be too much effort. I guess?

Even with the topic of conversation, Larissa was willing to cuddle. I was happy to cuddle her as well. She told me about her own family, and how her parents didn't always get along.

"Rules works." I said, thinking. "What rules are the question? Well, for the hatchling we'll have to start enforcing said rules super early. For yours we might be better waiting until they're a little older." I mused to myself. I shook my head gently. "Unfortunately I can't think of what those rules will be. I think we'll have to come up with those as we come along."

I sat there, thinking about it-- my tail swishing back and forth. "But that's one
rule we can have for each other. Communication is important. Very."

She nodded, agreeing with Garnet "Yeah that sounds fair. I mean, if yours understands language earlier, then it should be easier to communicate with them, which means it should be okay to lay down a few little rules at least. And yeah, I don't know if my kid will be intelligent that fast or they'll develop more slowly so I guess we'll see how it goes".

She tried to think up some rules too, but came up blank. "You're right. I can't really think of anything either. I mean, some things we're just going to have to do for ourselves, like kid proofing the house. Baby gates, um, put toxic chemicals and small items out of reach, don't leave them unsupervised with water or electric sockets..." she counted off on her fingers, trying to recall what her friend's younger siblings were like when she went to their houses. She knew a little bit at least.

She let Poff jump off her lap and back onto the table, as the cat had had enough of being stroked. Poff stretched luxuriously then ran across the table and jumped down, wandering off. Larissa let her go, she knew the cat wouldn't stray too far.

"That's true. Hm, we'll just have to do our best to sit down and make time to talk. Cause, we're probably going to be raising each other's kids together. I better research dragons a bit more. And ...do you think it would be a good idea to get some hands on experience? Like, babysit for someone? Do Charlotte or Mia have younger siblings? Who do we know who has kids?"
